Nitrous. The dream part for any true rice..ur..racer. There are tons of myths and misconceptions about Nitrous. I hope this tread clears some of these up to prevent future cases of ricer syndrome. I used nitrous for almost a year on a Mitsubishi Eclipse but the system fundamentally works on any car.
Nitrous Brand names Zex, Nitrous Express (NX), Venom, Nitrous Oxide Systems (NOS) and there are a few other but those are the main ones.
Wet kit VS. Dry kit A "wet" nitrous kit delivers nitrous mixed with fuel to help prevent running lean, a "dry" kit sprays nitrous only, it does not mix with fuel.
Direct Port and EFI systems. A direct port kit is when nitrous is delivered through the intake manifold. A EFI system is when nitrous is delivered through the intake pipe. Most people will use and EFI simpily becuase it is extreamly easy to hook up. A direct port is more difficult because it requires takeing off the intake manifold and drilling holes. The advantage of a direct port is nitrous is delivered evenly to all the cylinders.
Two bottles of Nitrous does not mean more power Having 2 bottles hooked up does not increase your Horse Power, it just lets you store more nitrous so you do not run out fast
How to activate Nitrous Unlike in The Fast and the Furious, nitrous does not work with a push of a button. Using a push button is dangrous. The best way to activate nitrous is to have A Wide Open Throttle Switch (WOT) To activate nitrous on my Eclipse I had to open the bottle, and flip a safety switch. After that, nitrous would only spray when I floored the car. Nitrous should only be used when you are flooring the car, Thats why a "NOS button" is dangerous.
Nitrous is not always cold Infact I used to warm mine up before using it. the most important factor when using nitrous is to make sure the bottle is at the right PSI. To riase the pressure you must heat the bottle.
Nitrous is very safe if used properly
Using nitrous does not make your car shoot flames
Nitrous is not a subsitute for good tuning Nitrous on your shitty SOHC Neon is not going to beat anything.
