Guitar Hero 4 (PS3, 360, Wii, PS2)
- Create a song. Although these exclude vocals due to storage and possible copyright issues.
- You'll be able to name your song as well as creating album art. After you've done all that you can upload it to GH Tunes where anyone can download it.
- You'll be limited to 5 songs at first. But depending on the ratings you get you'll possibly be able to upload 10 or more.
- The song sharing mode will be in the Wii and PS2 versions also, but GI says it's unlikely that it'll be as robust as the PS3 and 360 versions.
- Drums, bass, vocals guitar
- Create a rocker
- Create a guitar and drums
- All songs will be master tracks
- They don't want to discuss specifics on track listing out of fear of being scooped by the competition. However they confirmed 4 bands: Van Halen, The Eagles, Linkin Park and Sublime.
- A new guitar designed by Red Octane that includes a new input mechanic that'll "impact the way you play GH in the future".
- GI saw see through notes while playing that Neversoft said was the new input mechanic and that they were trying to patent.

Last year I was all for Guitar Hero, but now I'm only considering it. I'm not entirely sure about buying it yet.
Thanks for the news.

- Create a song
Well that is a cool feature.

I'm curious if this direct assault on Rock Band will pay off. Almost seems like the two franchises would do best if they maintained their respective identities.
It does seem like they are trying to tackle a lot more than seems possible.

Disgusted at them trying to be Rock Band.
And the create-a-song thing.... I can't imagine how they will be able to contain not having copyrighted stuff get input as "user created".... good luck.
Activision is a big douchebag.
Instead of making GH a better Guitar Hero game.. they are just making RB.

Sounds like a rockband clone. So shitty of them to do since you know they stole guitar hero from harmonix and then when harmonix wanted to do a band game they told them no...

Harmonix ftw.
Rock Band is still strong.
I want more songs though, I got all of them already.

It's an expensive habit... just figured that of the 50 DLC songs I have.. that has totaled $84 in purchases..... aaaaaahhhh!

True that.
Well at least we know we are getting our money worth and there won't be any Rock Band 2 any time soon.

Yeah, RB has been good with the DLC...well, with updates and all. The song selection has been disappointing lately. Rock Band 2 should be coming up around the corner (I've heard a fall release, but that's just me hearing things). I probably won't buy it unless Band World Tour mode goes online.

Yeah the Rock Band DLC has been a little dry lately. I'm still waiting for that Sabbath (Supernaut)/Maiden (Wrathchild)/Metallica (Fuel) pack that was leaked back in Feb. Should be here any week now.

GH alone is good enough and should just improve on it then being a Drum Band clone.

I don't know. I'm happy about the create-a-song, but seriously, stick with the insane guitars, and co-op bass, but don't copy RB.

I'm going to be 100% original here and advise them not to copy Rock Band.

I haven't played GH once since I got Rock Band.
I don't really feel like going back and forth buying the latest edition of each, so I think I'll pass on this.

Rock Band just does it so much better than Activision's Guitar Hero, I dont really see a point in buying them after that shit show they passed off as the GHIII.

New trailer:

It doesn't show any in game footage, but it does show the drums in action for a few seconds.

Am I the first person who says they're NOT copying Rock Band? If I recall Rock Band was copying Guitar Hero. They are making this type of genre BETTER since they are making a more realistic drum set and probably a better guitar. I'm just tired of hearing the "It's copying Rock Band" crap cuz it's not...it's different. If they used practice pads, and a guitar controller similar to Rock Band then yes it would be "copying" I think the word here is "improving".

^I actually do agree with that. Because drum games have been around for over a decade. But I do have to say the guitar hero 4 drum set looks much better than RB. But still, I can't keep buying all these games...

I liked GH 3 better than Rock Band because it was more challenging, the only thing that was hard was the Drums. I thought the GH guitar was way better than Rock bands. I hated the Strum bar, hell the whole guitar just didn't fell right.
I dont really see a point in buying them after that shit show they passed off as the GHIII.
Why didn't you like GH3?

Rock Band was made by the creators of Guitar Hero 1 & 2. The rights to Guitar Hero were sold starting at GH3. So basically Rock Band can't copy what they already created.

Throughout the entire song? =-o
I don't even use them for the solos, I only use them for the big rock endings.

Wii DLC confirmed.
Harmonix better up it's game now.
I actually totally disagree. Single songs on Rock Band are between 30-50MB. People don't have that kind of space on the Wii to download a lot of songs.
On disc extra songs makes so so much more sense on the Wii.
I've downloaded 60 songs on my 360. Where the heck are 60 songs going to go on the Wii? If you continuously build your library as songs get released, even if you store your DLC on SD cards, you are very very quickly going to run out of room or have to keep swapping SD cards and only hold some songs on each card.
Until Nintendo has an actual large storage device to provide us with, it makes no sense to offer all the DLC pointlessly like that. I'm sure if the Wii had a hard drive and lots of storage space, then Harmonix will announce DLC.

Yup, I do way better too lol.
I got so used to it that I can't even go back to the big one, so that's the drawback.

Patience, Angela, patience.
Do you honestly think Activision would offer full DLC if a storage solution was not in the works?
Harmonix not only didn't set up RB for DLC, they completely removed online altogether. It's a direct port from the PS2 build.

Actually, I do. Just saying they will offer it is basically a shot at Harmonix which set quite a few fan forums ablaze when they decided not to offer DLC for Wii.
But it's kind of funny. Guitar Hero is copying off of Harmonix, which is copying off of Guitar Hero...
Either way, I'm not overly impressed with Rock Band at the moment, as I just dropped $160 on it, and the drums on easy are no problem for me, the drums on medium are slightly difficult but not all that fun. The guitar solos are more fun but everything else isn't...maybe it's because I started on Hard and can easily beat most expert songs on Guitar Hero. And vocals are only fun with a group of friends or as you play along with Guitar or Bass.
I just hope I feel like my $160 was justified in the end.

Here some early pricing details, nothing confirmed. (http://uk.gamespot.com/news/6191524.html?om_act=convert&om_clk=newstop&tag=newstop;title;1)
As I said, Rock Band fucked themselves out of a sale when they threw the middle finger to the UK with the huge delay and the ridiculous price once it did arrive (on 360 only..¬_¬) so I will make GH4/ World Tour wtfever, my first next-gen band game and probably my last (the drums are near perfect on this one, they have cymbals and bass pedal so you can't exceed it by much).
I would gladly pay around £90 for it and if these early price guests are anything to go by, it shouldn't exceed that by much.
Let's hope they actually release it here and not pull off the fuck-up EA pulled off with Rock Band.
I was reading my recent Game Informer that had a cover of GH IV and i saw this in it;
We have a handful of songs that are specific to the hardcore guitar players - a few progressive bands like Dream Theater. We have to put them in the game
Hell fucking yea. I just hope they go with some of their older songs. Metropolis Pt. I or Home would rock but they will probably use Pull me Under. Either way, im stocked.

In other news, Metallica will be getting their own Guitar Hero game, similar to Aerosmith. Fucking great, now we get a whole game full of songs from a bunch of washed up *ssholes.
Thanks Activision.
Edit: There may be a good side to this though...Rock Band players might not have to get any more Metallica DLC.

Whine whine whine.
Metallica was and still is (admittedly, less so now) one of the most influential bands whether you like it or not and they have like over 100 songs which obviously helps in creating a game around them.
More info: It's rumoured to come out March 2009 which makes no sense from marketing point of view since their new album comes out at the end of summer (I think).
I would have tried to release them around the same time or at least somewhat close.
PS: Whining/ complaining/ people bringing things down for no reason other than they don't like it is exactly why I didn't post the Metallica news (i found out a few days ago but knew that if i posted it, people will just rip it apart).
So yeah, less retarded negative attitude towards things might improve the community and merit more posts.
I am actually looking forward to the GH Metallica game strictly because I love Metallica. I'm just waiting to see what the game's setlist will look like.

I can't wait the GH4. The Rock Band drums disappointed me severely, and I'd rather not have a microphone. Besides, the pricing is ridiculous. Me and a pal will be buying this together, I think it's gonna be fun.

Sorry, I just can't respect such a greedy band. They were once decent musical artists, and nobody will argue that, and they still play well, but they are no longer producing anything that is outside of their tired metal formula combined with their metal-er-than-thou attitude and constant greed driven fights over musical protection that they simply don't need...they've ruined their own image.
