Sony Computer Entertainment has added support for the YouTube API to the PS3 SDK.

According to Japanese website ITmedia, the experiment is being supported globally and is designed to let developers easily integrate YouTube uploading into games made for the system

Very cool idea.

Wow, my youtube page might actually have stuff on it.
Maybe one day they'll mod it for home and let you update to your home webpage they spoke of last year.

Anyways - would this be enough to cancel your defection to the pc version of pes?

Make YouTube videos of the Sony cat everyday with your PS3

http://www.siliconera.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2008/05/toro.jpg

Way back in 2006 Sony released Mainichi Issho (Everyday Together). The free PlayStation Network game stars Toro, the Sony created cat mascot. You can dress him up with a series of free clothes, play a few mini games and purchase costumes for him. When I first downloaded it I watched one of the Torostation briefings, which supposedly updates everyday with news related to video game. Other than that, I haven’t played around with Mainichi Issho much.

I might start playing with Mainichi Issho again because Mainichi Issho has a neat video sharing system. You can record Toro roller skating, Cosplay bowling or playing in his house. After you save the video on the PlayStation 3's hard drive it can be uploaded directly to YouTube (http://www.dokodemoissyo.com/mainichi/index.html) where you can show your cat directing skills to the world.

This is a very clever use of the PlayStation 3 hardware. Perhaps, the technology will be transferred over to Home or a future PlayStation 3 game? While I'm waiting to see how Sony plans to utilize integrated YouTube sharing I want to see what crazy things other people make Toro do.http://www.siliconera.com/2008/05/15/make-youtube-videos-of-the-sony-cat-everyday-with-your-ps3/

Still think this is a bit funny didn't Sony buy a youtube clone last year strange how it supports uploading to youtube instead of their own service

I think he means low quality as in camera taping the TV rather than screen capture.

Well, I hope, Youtube ups the quality over time, since they now support h264...

But such an option in Gran Turismo would ROCK!!! (in HD no less^^)

Would it be possible to implement this into Home?

This sounds like something you'd expect to see in it.

RTS replays!

Of course, we'll need some RTSs on PS3 first...

Dammit, I second this. I at least want games to support the recording of inputs like Halo 3, so people can see replay's of matches in engine at least (even though this isn't the most accurate type of replay).

Quite a neat way for the publishers to get some free PR too.

It's kinda ironic that Sony would mention YouTube for this and not Crackle. But I guess if Crackle is being pushed thorugh Home with Youtube being a larger space to take advantage of this, then it would only make sense to have it lead the way for user created content in games. Either way, it comes to show that a closed platform is very limited in many ways to an open platform.

Awesome idea, without question.

I not only search, but I searched in advance mode for 'YouTube' and nothing showed up! for God's sake, is it that impossible to have a functioning search tool?!

on topic; I always wanted this feature and for it to be standard. now anyone can save their own crazy stunts, boss fights, guides, showing secret areas, how to reach/do stuff, etc. I love it!

It has to be a 2.35 firmware hidden feature, although it has to be supported by the game as well.

Let The Games Begin

Posted by Nikhil Chandhok, Product Manager for YouTube Syndication

Back in March, we launched the new YouTube APIs and Tools, with the goal of making YouTube an open video services platform and available for use by any website, desktop application, or consumer device. Today, we are announcing a new partnership that takes advantage of the YouTube APIs in a new and interesting way.

We are happy to announce that PLAYSTATION®3 (PS3TM) has integrated the YouTube APIs to allow game developers to create games that enable direct upload of in-game video captures to YouTube. This YouTube upload functionality can be incorporated not only into new PS3 game titles, but also existing PS3 titles that have the ability to receive network updates. Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. has added YouTube functionality to Mainichi Issho, a popular game with PS3 users in Japan. Gamers will now be able to upload their in-game video captures to YouTube. We're excited at the opportunity this presents and look forward to more and more games to be enhanced with YouTube.

The YouTube APIs are available to all developers and we hope that game developers everywhere will use the YouTube APIs to make video an integral part of their game experience. Whether it's showing off that fantastic touchdown pass, car slide, or karaoke sing-along, we hope that more user-generated content from games will make their way to YouTube and connect with the gamer communities.

an excellent feature indeed!

I predict a ratio of 1 good video for every 1,000 submitted.

Pretty much what we get anyway.

Z
05-27-2008, 02:49 PM
yeah, but getting the kick of directly uploading something you did is more pleasing than the hit count your video gets. I got a Youtube channel with almost no one I know even knows about. but I enjoy goofing off unnoticed. ;p

plus, what will make me search others' videos are the likes of seeing how others taken down certain bosses, how a map can be exploited, etc.
plus, we still need corny Movie maker edits with silly music and too lousy that it is funny editing. lol but these will certainly help in getting the 'raw' vids out there hassle free. I hate going through hoops to record a game I'm playing that isn't on PC.

but I wonder if it really as simple and as direct as clicking an option to upload. will games have limiting parts that allow upload like only replay video, or will they allow anything at any point to be recorded and uploaded?

Viper
05-27-2008, 03:00 PM
That's going to be up to the developer it seems. If they allow point to point recording, then you can upload anything (within time constraints I believe) but most developers will likely have preset constraints for stuff like you suggested...replay videos.

The walkthrough idea is a very solid one. Gamefaqs might want to look into it.

Z
05-27-2008, 04:27 PM
you can find entire game walkthroughs on youtube from the start screen to the credit one (broken in parts). that is just silly. I can see walkthroughs in tricky areas or secret parts of a level, but the entire game?
anyway, however they intigrate the feature will be positive news. I think the competition will hop on to this as well and then we'll see them outdoing themselves- hopefully.
