That chart is so close to reality, it's sad.

Opinions are like feet. Everyone has 'em, and they all stink.

Haha, this was very amusing and true.
A ton of games I like get low scores that I've kind of learned to just not care what the reviewers themselves say but to see what the user reviews say or users of sites I visit.

I saved this so fucking fast. Oh, the hilarity. I'm going to go by this for the rest of the year.

how about: review claims game hardly triumphs 'Gears of War' -> game is atleast 9x % compared to Gears Of War, and therefor is only 10-x% away from perfection / utopia / gaming nirvana.

You shouldn't think of scores like that.

A perfect 10 score, just highlights the technical achievements at the time. This is one of the reasons I hate comparing games from old school to newer games (there are exceptions tho). OOT is an overrated game in my opinion, but it got perfect 10's at the time of release. The problem was, I hadn't fully played through it untill the gamecube remake came out. The score system was redefined, and I ended up thinking that this game couldn't possibly be perfect, and that the Wind Waker was much better. But relative to the time frame it was released, it was quite possibly the best game of that time.

There is problem with scoring games because of this. The industry is always changing. Something you can't do now, will be possible in a few years, and there will always be new things to try out. Games reviews should run on a recommendation system rather than a score system in my opinion. It should focus on the content that the reviewer is writing about and not the score they give in the end, but since people always have to go with the score, that is what ends up being talked about the most.

And once again, I have typed more then I wanted too...

Standards and perceptions change year after year. It's crazy and short-sited to go back and play classics and expect them to satisfy the same expectations that modern hits have raised. Understanding when and why they were so important is key.
