View Full Version : Capcom already thinking about DMC5?

Not sure if its been posted yet. I personally have rather mixed feelings about it.
Devil May Cry 5 on Capcom’s mind. Devil May Cry 4 record sales of 2 million make plans all but certain
Devil May Cry 4 producer Hiroyuki Kobayashi said back at E3 2007 that he wanted to make Devil May Cry 5 if Capcom let him. This week Capcom president Haruhiro Tsujimoto announced in a press release that Capcom’s fiscal year 2008 sales increased to over 83 billion Yen ($806 million), in part thanks to Devil May Cry 4’s record sales of over 2 million units worldwide since its early February 2008 release, making it the fastest selling Devil May Cry game so far and taking the entire series from 7 to 9 million sold. It now seems all but certain Capcom wants a sequel with Mr. Tsujimoto closing off the PR by saying “We hope to continue meeting and exceeding the expectations of gamers with our dedication to developing solid titles for the best gaming platforms available.”
To quote Capcom producer Hiroyuki Kobayashi’s words from last year: “Continuing the storyline is always possible. However, we do work under a corporate system, so unless Capcom gives us the green light to go ahead and continue on with releasing Devil May Cry 5, 6, 11, whatnot. It’s totally up to them.
However, personally I would like to continue with Devil May Cry and create more and more games for this franchise. Devil May Cry 4 has turned out to be a very cool-looking stylish game for those that have a PS3 or a [Xbox] 360. If you don’t buy Devil May Cry 4 you would think ‘Why didn’t I buy it?’ There’s no worth of having a PS3 or [Xbox] 360 without Devil May Cry 4. That’s the kind of game it’s going to turn out to be.”

To be honest i'm getting a little tired with the gaming industry as a whole now also movies aswell for very much the same reason. Where is the creativity? we just keep getting game after game after game in a series. Okay yes 4 games is a nice number but 5? And another doom? another guitar hero? no doubt we'll see a GTA5 is the word really that hard up for entertainment they will lap up anthing that gets thrown at them? Whats even worse is that when there is an attempt at original creativity its botched up (haze). This complaint also applies to movies. Spiderman 4 and 5 have been announced, ironman 2, the hulk 2, the mummy 3, indy 4, superman 6, PotC 4 is pretty much announced but its being filmed later down the line, transformers 2 and bay has already said he wants a 3rd -.- for god sake why do we keep seeing the same stuff over and over. The world is full of ideas but laziness keeps us from pursuing them. that and all developers hide behind their safety nets because they know people will but game after game after game. I just want some new original games to come out, that will effect gaming. that will bring a sequal (hopefully not 5).
/rant.
enjoy the news haha

Well in the early dev of DMC4 he already said that DMC4 was just the beginning of the " Nero chronicle " and that it will be based on Nero....
But I just don't like the way they screw up vergil in this sequel..
but it s like MGS maybe, but Hope Dante will make an appearance in the upcoming sequel as qell. or for the love of the fan, will be back in a whole chapter.

I guess I'm the only one that isn't bothered by sequels. I enjoy playing as familiar characters usually. I always enjoy seeing what new things they add into games and etc. I also like new ideas for games, but I enjoy pretty much all aspects of gaming (except for racing titles for the most part).

I like sequels. As long as they're good and evolve from the previous installment, which games are much more likely to do than movies, and developers still pursue new ideas once in a while.
you can't possibly compare sequels of games such as Guitar Hero to DMC. I like the DMC series and how it is progressing. why would you want it to stop? crazy movies, over the top cut scenes, wild action, hell, where do I sign?
sure, new experiences are good as well, but that doesn't mean if you make a hit formula, you should abandon it soon after. I don't want to keep replaying DMC1 over and over. I want to see new moves, cut-scenes, bosses, weapons and all in the same universe that made me love the first game.
speaking of DMC4, I have the game, but I can't play it due to lack of time. but I do hate their Nero design being a complete copy of the previous main character. I mean EXACLY the same? try telling people he isn't Dante or related to him (NO SPOILERS PLEASE!).
why couldn't they make someone completely different?

GH sequels used to be justified because there was no other way to release new songs.
GH: World Tour sports a new instrument(better drums than Rockband), and I very much doubt I'll buy a new GH after that, at least not this generation.
Unless they decide to go all-out and release one with a mic... :look:
they are already making one with drums and a mic- at least. but I was talking about the sort of sequel that is basically the same exact thing because the concept is so limiting to begin with. case in point; do I want to MGS series to stop? no freaking way! of course, MGS is at a much higher level than DMC, but it proves a point.
some franchise have extremely little updates, yet we can't hold off of them like Tekken and GT. some would mention annual titles of any genre, but you don't have to buy those each year yourself. I usually hold off a few sequels till I upgrade my sports title. but when I finally do, man is the difference so obvious and refreshing. that was when I used to play sports game, though. lol
I also skip annual releases of the likes of Need for Speed, Splinter Cell and the likes.

The new DMC will come with a Guitar Hero controller and be controlled thusly.
Hahaha...no but seriously, this shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone. It's goddamn motherfucking Capcom.

Considering that there are NO plans for DLC for DMC4, a sequel makes perfect financial sense.
*Green lights Capcom himself*
Just so long as Lady and Trish can have more screen time, Dante or no.

It seems i'm the only one who doesn't like a silly amount of sequals :P I'm all for making them as long as they better gameplay and further the story and most of them don't do that. They all make minor changes here and there, the devs always claim it to be new and inovative but when its released it's still basically the same game. Im not sure if any of you got my paoint anyway as i wasn't comparing any of those games i listed against each other, i never actually do that because they are totally different genres.

i was thinking that before i came into this thread.
Seriously, where does it end, when do people think, enough is enough. I mean. Star wars had 6 main movies, and they probably only stopped then because they drove that fucker into the ground.
seriously, midichlorians?
Im wondering if people know when they have enough of a good thing, or will we always keep asking for more, essentially ruining the game we once held with such esteem.

DMC4's sales warrant another sequel. I also wonder whether Trish and Lady could get a spin-off game.

Nope, people don't stop at the line, they always have to cross it.

I just hope they will go back to the original idea that mikami wanted in DMC 1.
Having a charismatic character such as Dante. And in a gameplay point of view. Having the player " going " to the ennemies for close combat. rather than grabing them...
LaLiLuLeLo
05-26-2008, 03:33 AM
But why? Grabbing the bad guys made running to them obsolete. When I started playing as Dante in mission 11 I guess it was, my first instinct was to press circle, which, much to my chagrin, did not reel in the badguys to slashing distance.

Nero's arm basically made combat easier in DMC4. With Dante it was harder, but he also was a lot stronger as well so it worked out in the end. Nero's arm was a good step forward though. It was a nice mecanic to have added to DMC. Maybe in later games they will give Dante a whip or something that can do the same sorta thing.

Well I didn't say it wasa bad implementation. but I think it would' be been better to have the Devil Bringer used as a " grapling " to your ennemies. and using it to go to your ennemies instead of grabing them. Just like the way Nero goes to berial when using the DB.
The other thing I di'n t really like is the Devil Trigger of Dante. I would have love having a look close to DevilMan or close to the DT in DMC1.
same for the weapons , I think The only good and useful one was Lucifer.
I didn t like the Pandora Box.
Kobayashi did promise more bosses, weapons, cutscenes....
Hope they won't screw up the franchise... That s one of the reasons why members of clover studio left.
I m looking forward to Bayonneta, but looking forward to DMC5 as well.

And to add to your rant, where the hell are the new Nintendo franchises?? They rehash almost as bad (see: Mario Party 48)
But for some reason I still want the stories from all of these "familiar" games to continue. Isn't that weird?
So I'm down for a DMC5, just as long as its got more Dante.

I dunno if I'll buy DMC4 even with it hits the bargain bin. R these guys be serious or just joking around, the freakin game didn't even get critically praised in the media let alone being a AAA title.

Enough already

Today I will be continuing my spontaneous semi-mini-quasi-series on videogame sequels. Last week I listed a a handful of sequels that don't yet exist, but definitely should be on my consoles...now. I don't think my words will be as pleasant this week, because these are the franchises that have too many sequels, and should probably just call it quits already (or change significantly).
Without further ado:
World War 2 games
http://gamernode.com/upload/manager////Eddie/Column/enough%20already/moh1211676192.jpg
This isn't directed at any franchise in particular, but developers really need to think of something new to make games about. World War 2 games got old years ago, but somehow they're still released by the truckloads - and they're not interesting anymore. Even Call of Duty, the poster child for WW2 games, has departed from that stale and overused subject matter. It's 2008, and there are already 2008 WW2 games. Give it a rest, already.
Final Fantasy
http://gamernode.com/upload/manager////Eddie/Column/enough%20already/ff121211676174.jpg
I'm expecting a lot of heat from this one, but honestly, since when is Final Fantasy even a series? I think Square Enix should just continue to focus on completely new and original IP, rather than re-implementing much of the same old tired gameplay and conventions of the franchise, which they have begun to do in recent years. (applause) Sure, give us RPGs, but make them unique and fresh - and don't pretend that they have anything to do with previous entries if they are completely stand-alone titles, and don't handcuff yourselves with an obligation to stick by those old conventions with each new game. Ceasing the FF cycle will allow creativity to blossom even further. I mean, how "final" is it when every new game, regardless of genre or subject matter, has the same title?
Tony Hawk
http://gamernode.com/upload/manager////Eddie/Column/enough%20already/thawk1211676210.jpg
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater was an incredible game when it was first released in 1999. It was the first time skateboarding was ever explored with such depth in the form of a videogame, and was executed nearly perfectly. Fans ate it up and critics fell in love. The first and second sequels to the game expanded upon the formula established by the original game, and the series steadily improved. By the fourth time around, things had become stale, and Neversoft decided to branch off into the realm of the action/adventure game - the mediocre kind. Now, after TEN titles in EIGHT years, the last SEVEN of which have been progressively inferior, the franchise has become one of the top examples of the term "milking." Certainty? In this world nothing is certain but death and Tony Hawk games.
Dynasty Warriors
http://gamernode.com/upload/manager////Eddie/Column/enough%20already/dwarriors1211676161.jpg
Those who know my videogame tastes are well aware that I'm not a big Dynasty Warriors fan. To put it bluntly, the franchise is boring, bland, un-inventive, and just plain old. None of the 9+ entries has ever cracked the 80% mark on meta-review sites, and even when the series departed from its ancient Chinese subject matter to incorporate the game was still sub-par. I would really like to see a different game come along that does the one-man-vs-hundreds-of-soldiers-on-the-battlefield- at-once thing the right way (by that i mean actually fun and NOT boring), thus forcing Dynasty Warriors into a long-overdue retirement.
Mario Kart
http://gamernode.com/upload/manager////Eddie/Column/enough%20already/mariokart1211676183.jpg
Here's another one that will be defended until the end of time, and although it hurts me to say it, the Mario Kart franchise has lost its luster. Gone is the speed of former installments, and stupidly overdone handicapping is apparently not going away anytime soon. Sure online play is a great addition, and any Mario Kart fan will begin to drool at just the thought of a trans-Atlantic red shell shot, but if competition is stifled as a result of deteriorated game design, what is the point? Remember the old days, and everything BEFORE Double Dash? I sure do.
Sonic Anything
http://gamernode.com/upload/manager////Eddie/Column/enough%20already/sonic1211676201.jpg
Sonic Games have been awful for years now. Please stop, and let the little guy keep what is left of his ever-shrinking dignity.

I'm sorry you don't like DMC4, OmniCloud. I fuckin' love that game. It's not that I don't like it...I just realize when teams could do better--and don't.
They could've busted there butts and released a brand new DMC4 around now or sometime in the Fall and given that same feeling DMC1 had--especially since it's a new console. But because of money/release dates/MONEY it's just an improved DMC and not a redefined one.
I'll pick it up and enjoy it more than likely one day. It's just not something so amazing.
And the comment the idiot made in the first post forced me to bash a little:pinky:

Great article in Passive's post.
Agreed with all except Final Fantasy since he himself says most FF games differ greatly so it doesn't become boring and they just use the name to sell which is okay in my book as long as the games deliver (which they do).
On DMC5- I only completed DMC2 I think and the franchise was never my 'thing' but Capcom is serious money-whoring this gen and I doubt they'll deliver with DMC5, they'll just money whore again.

@Omni (darn you masteratt beating my post)
Nah, I think the devil bringer did a lot to freshen up the series, and the combat and the cinematics are the best they've been. Could they have gone EVEN FURTHER BEYOND? Yeah probably. I don't doubt that for a second. But I did enjoy almost every minute of that game. I didn't enjoy the minutes fighting that stupid electric bastard. Everything else is great.
It seems i'm the only one who doesn't like a silly amount of sequals :P I'm all for making them as long as they better gameplay and further the story and most of them don't do that. you have to keep in mind that you are talking about sequels and not bradn new games. the meaning of a sequel is that people liked something so much they want more of the same thing. you can add little bits here and there, but they want more of what they liked. if you are going to change something completely, better just make it into a brand new product.
DMC4's sales warrant another sequel. I also wonder whether Trish and Lady could get a spin-off game.
spin-off games are usually very bad- right there next to movie tie-ins.
(I said 'usually' so don't give me a couple of examples of titles that somehow define that rule).
I'm glad i'm not alone in thinking that sequals arent always a good idea. I think it's just time to let DMC rest.
there are only 4 DMC games since 2001 and you think it is too much to 'let it rest'? also, we should never decide if a sequel should be made or not. judge with your money. if you don't like a sequel (or a new game) don't buy it. devs will notice and try to fix their mistakes and out do what they did- whther it is a new game or a sequel. sometimes they miss, sometimes they hit. but 'calling off production all together' is just insane. they can make a DMC game every 3 months for all I care. I won't buy one till I feel or know that 'this one' is a true successor to where I stopped or for what the last one did.
also found a related article. I agree with some of the points made in it.
I've seen that piece and the writer is extremely retarded and knows nothing about games simply for including games that have absolutly nothing to do with each other and seeing them as sequels. who on Earth see's FF games as fucking sequels? is he blind AND retarded AND a fucking idiot?! that is the whole strength of the FF games. that is one of the biggest things fans awaite news on; what the new FF title will bring. because we all new it is going to be something completely different and new. ALL characters are new, ALL designs are new, ALL stories are new, ALL presentation is new. he might as well count Persona, Valkyrie Profile, Folklore and Tales as a single franchise that has too many sequels it should it.
that is one of the most moronic articles ever written about gaming on the already amazingly dumb internet space.
