Tales of Vesperia (テイルズ オブ ヴェスペリア, Teiruzu obu Vesuperia?) is the newest and tenth main entry into the Tales of series. It was announced on December 22nd, 2007 at Jump Festa. The game's first trailer confirmed that the Character Designer is Kōsuke Fujishima, the Chief Director and Producer is Yoshito Higuchi (who previously worked on both Tales of Symphonia and Tales of the Abyss), the game is being developed by Namco Tales Studio and its animated movies will be done by Production I.G.It has been confirmed on Gamespot that Vesperia will be exclusively for Xbox 360, though a Playstation 3 port is still possible.

Gameplay
Tales of Vesperia uses an improved and evolved version of Tales of the Abyss's battle system, called the "Evolved Flex-Range Linear Motion Battle System" (EFR-LMBS).

A change from previous entries, players will be able to learn special attacks through their equipment. Players are also able to use acquired material to create rare and unique equipment. Also added are special attacks that defeat the enemy with a single blow if special button combinations are timed correctly. Also returning from Tales of Symphonia and Tales of the Abyss is the "Overlimit". Similar to Tales of the Abyss it is in the form of a visible gauge, but the bar can be "stacked" and used to give different effects in battle.

[edit] Characters
Yuri Rowell (ユーリ・ローウェル, Yūri Rōueru?)
Age: 21
Gender: Male
Height: 180cm
Weight: N/A
Voice Actor: Kosuke Toriumi
The main protagonist of the game that wields a sword in battle. An empathetic young man, who doesn't give a second thought about helping those in need, but he knows his limits. He is quite sarcastic and cynical but a nice man at heart. He was once a knight, which gave him the freedom of taking brief journeys outside his hometown, but now works as a bodyguard. Envious of Flynn, he decides to leave his city and see the world himself. He hates the nobility and the government. He also yearns for his older brother. He meets Estelle when events lead him to be imprisoned.

Estelleze (エステリーゼ, Esuterīze?) Estelle (エステル, Esuteru?)
Age: 18
Gender: Female
Height: 165cm
Weight: N/A
Voice Actor: Mai Nakahara
The heroine of the game that wields a sword and shield. Her real name is Estelleze, but she is also called Estelle. She uses healing magic and has pink hair. In the castle, Estelle encounters Yuri. She separates herself from her sad world, and begins to speak out and take action.

Flynn (フレン, Furen?)
Age: N/A
Gender: Male
Height: N/A
Weight: N/A
Voice Actor: Mamoru Miyano[citation needed]
A knight that wields a sword and shield. Flynn shared his childhood with Yuri, though they contrast from one another. He has similar ideals of helping others, but chooses to work them out via politics instead. He travels regularly to fend off monsters, a fact that makes Yuri envious.

The debut of the Tales series on the Xbox 360, Tales of Vesperia is set in a world reliant on a mysterious ancient technology known as Blastia. The game follows former knight Yuri as he delves into a shadowy plot to use these magical devices to control civilization, or destroy it.

The game makes significant additions to the series' trademark real-time combat system, allowing players to do battle in massive battlefields and learn new special attacks that are tied to individual weapons. New finishing blows allow players to take down enemies in a single hit with correctly timed button combinations, while mission-based battles increase the variety of each encounter as players gain unique items by fulfilling various battle objectives. Players can also use materials collected by successfully executing finishing moves to craft rare and unique equipment for their characters.

Quote:
Based on what we played, Tales of Vesperia is shaping up to be a comfy fit on the Xbox 360. The visuals are stylish and crisp, with a rich color palette that sells the beautiful art. The gameplay is very much classic Tales and delivers a solid real-time feel to the action. The tweaked combo system keeps things interesting; we're not totally sold on the timing just yet, but we're anxious to see if we can master it. If you're a fan of the Tales games or are just looking for a more traditional RPG experience, you'll want to keep an eye out for Tales of Vesperia when it ships this fall for the Xbox 360.

I'll probably be passing on this game. It looks like every other jRPG that's been released in the past five years.

I'm looking forward to this game because I am ready for a change in pace as far as gaming goes.

looks like it will be a good rental if not a pick up depending on the review but nice to see more jRPG's coming out.

This title will probably be my first Tales title to ever play through. I hear nothing but good things about the Tales on GameCube. I should pick up the Tales game that was released some time ago for the PSP.

Yeah, I know, but everything else is pretty much the same. Still a protagnist male with a sword, still a woman that has healing spells...You'll probably end up chasing/being chased by this one dude for most of the game. He'll be protrayed as a villian up until 2/3 through the game. Then the real bad guy will show up and kill the previous main villian just to show how evil he is.

Pretty much, I think jRPGs need to get away from the clichés (http://www.project-apollo.net/text/rpg.html). However, if the 360 gets a Grandia game, I may pick it up. Only because it has the greatest battle system to grace any RPG ever made.

I'm almost certainly getting it. I absolutely loved Tales of Symphonia on the good ol' GameCube. Unless they really screw something up on an epic scale, this one's guaranteed a place in my collection.

Look like something to keep me entertain this summer. Might consider a buy or a rent when it comes here.

I'm also sure one of those voice actors are from naruto too.

I like the battle system and the trailer looks compelling. I can go without the animish feminine music/sob story but other than that it looks cool. Seems like there putting a lot of work into this...

The more RPGs the better?

Honestly, more like 'We should skip out on all the generic RPGs, or all genres for that matter, that pop up on shelves.'

I'll probably be passing on this game. It looks like every other jRPG that's been released in the past five years.

Ok I could've probably just quoted this.

RPGs this gen have sucked balls so far.

Unspoken

RPGs this gen have sucked balls so far.

That's partially true. That should change with the release of Tales of Symphonia 2, however, and hopefully this entry.

I've had this one pre-ordered since it was added to our system. I really need a good RPG fix; Blue Dragon's turn-based combat had me putting it down quickly. But this both looks spectacular and will play great.

So what if it looks like your run-of-the-mill jRPG? Final Fantasy VII ringing any bells?

Give this one a chance, guys. The Tales creators have been known to throw great twists (even if some can be predicted) and amazing character depth.

Only problem I can foresee with this game is the same problem each Tales game has seemed to have: voice acting. I really hope it's not as fucked up as Symphonia's. :-(

EDIT: Has this game been announced for possible Live multiplayer? That would put the icing on the cake and fix the shitty local multiplayer camera.

I loved Blue Dragon and it was a gorgeous game to boot. I can't wait to play through this new Tales game though, but I'm not going to buy it. I'll just rent it.

I really luv the art style of this game. Was like walking on a painting. Playing the demo was confusing since it was in the middle of the game but that boss kicked my ass so bad.

I sure hope that's true because I am dying for a damn rpg. And this ones only a few weeks away. famitsu seems pretty good from what I've read in the past.

hmmm.... I might look into this one...but seeing as I still don't have a job... I might have to save my cash for RockBand 2

But I loved Tales of Symphonia.... and the series is unique because of its real time battle mechanics.... I just hope they solved some of the overworld backtracking monotony.

Theres no pre-order bonus is there?

Japanese People Acutally Lining Up For Xbox 360 Exclusive? Oh Yes.

http://kotaku.com/assets/images/kotaku/2008/08/tales_launch_akiba.jpg

Check Hell, because we think it's official frozen over. That right there was the line at the Akihabara Yodobashi Camera earlier this morning for Xbox 360 exclusive Tales of Vesperia. It was over a hundred people — small potatoes for, say, a Poké launch, but shocking for an Xbox 360 title in Japan. The game and an Xbox 360 went on sale, and there was a stage event with the game's creative producer Yoshito Higuchi and producer Tsutomu Gouda, telling fans how that they created a beautiful looking Tales for the Xbox 360. Joked Gouda:

Even though the Olympics are starting, everyone please enjoy playing Tales of Versperia.

Pro wrestler Wataru Sakata, who is married to Wii Fit spokesperson Eiko Koike, was also on hand to help promote the game and do the countdown to game's sales launch. Reader Jamie, who emailed us from the event, puts it in better prospective: "Queues are small but they're selling a steady stream of consoles."

^^Well that should shut up Sony fanboys about not being able to sell 360's to the Asian market.

JasonXe
08-08-2008, 10:29 PM
Only the wii (consoles) is selling there really. A 4-10k difference isn't something to gloat about for psfanboys.

Tales sold 70k first day and sales on 360 picked up from last week to 6k. I'm excepting 7-12k with next week figures. Nothing huge but it's atleast building a small base there.

That's fine as long as it's building something in that market. There's gotta be a game that the 360 can reach out to those gamers with.

Well tales also had a bundeled version I heard and it sold 10k units?

The game is going to be awesome though, I am really excited for it. I want the collectors edition but I think it may only be selling through amazon.

Here is a site with a lot of cool info about the game and going to have like contests and stuff to win copies of the game etc. It is run by Namco Bandai and has a lot of cool stuff, http://www.talesbrigade.com/?friend=mYxM36
