Reggie predicted by June and I predicted by July.
Analysts scoffed at the idea entirely and Nintendo just told them to STFU.
The American market was the last market Nintendo had yet to conquer sales wise....until now.
X360 - 11.53 million
Wii - 11.70 million
This marks the first time in 15 years that a Nintendo home console was the sales leader in the American market.
So this is how RedSox fans felt in 2004?

Not until now.
It obviously passed X360 in Japan during launch.
It passed X360 in Europe at some point mid last year.
And it passed X360 worldwide last September.
The American market was MS' stronghold so it was expected to put up a bigger fight than the other territories and it did.

I probably just thought it was inevidable so in my mind it had already happened. Would have been much sooner if they could have made more of them.....

They are already making 1.8 million per month and will up that to 2.4 million in July.
They can't make more than their vendors can supply. Analog Devices had to open a new plant just to make enough accelerometers for the Wii-mote. SMTElectronics has had to up their accelerometer production for the nun-chuck several times just this year.

You know what?
It's about time. Respect to Nintendo. Just because they got this whole thing started with the NES and a little game called Super Mario Bros, you can't help but respect them for this.
They have had more bad press and negativity in recent years (especially during the Gamecube days) than Microsoft or Sony will ever see, so this is a huge for Nintendo.
In my opinion, it took great flaming balls of steel to be weird and name something after british genital slang with all it's quirkiness and shit, after creating a purple lunch box (a freakin awesome purple lunch box with a handle )and try something new, and change the rules of gaming.
So respect.
Oh btw, I love my Playstation, and as someone who grew up with video games during the PS1/N64 era (i missed out on 16-bit) I think it's really weird for Sony not to be on top. Kinda also saddening for me as the Playstation was some awesome times...but as a kid I did always have more fun with my N64...maybe it's because i didn't have as many PS1 games or there weren't enough "kid friendly games".... (althought I played through MGS like a mofo in 1999/2000 or whenever the greatest hits version was released, and I wouldn't have called Perfect Dark or Goldeneye kid friendly)
Still, the situation on the Wii isn't as rosey as it could be; support still sucks (i know you've gone over this before Viper, but I still need to see some games and not just believe in them) and shovel-ware is all over the place...its worse than what was/is on ps2. Also dev's are just throwing w.e. crap ass engines they can to make a quick buck. The industry's ugly head is firmly placed on Wii right now. Funny, as both the PS3 and X360 have some of the most amazing titles coming out soon
Okay, that became one hell of a tangent.
hell, im a fan of all games, period...but congrats to Nintendo. They really turned their boat around.
Now gimme a new Zelda.

Forgot a word....meant to say if they could make more of them. I know they are making a crap load and they don't have complete control of how many they can make.

Man, 360 really had it locked down in NA to put up a fight this long with the Wii completely dominating in all other markets.
Great to see, there are some great games announced for Wii by 3rd parties, but im waiting for E3 for alot of big studios to announce AAA titles that might actually sell well on Wii.

I thought Wii surpassed a long time ago. I still think MS is going to win this generation because it's doing everything right so far. Nintendo needs more good third party games and some more Mature games (or even Teen games) because the only quality games on the Wii atm are Nintendo games.

They arent doing something right. Last year was one of the best software lineups that 360 could have hoped for, and yet they still sold a low amount of consoles. Their overall sales have slowed by quite a bit. PS3 imo is the biggest contender as it is a viable multi-media option for the HD age and soon its price point will be nearly irresistible. It also has huge games that can sell a console by itself.
The Wii also has shown no signs of slowing as Venom mentioned, and there ARE good/great games from 3rd Parties on the Wii. Look at Bully, No More Heroes, Zak and Wiki, Elebits, etc. Admittedly, there isnt the amount that the other consoles have, but there are a good amount of Wii games from 3rd Parties that are very good. Its not Nintendo's fault it can nearly support a system with its own games by itself.

Ah, some of the T/M rated games have shovelware basically spelled out in the titles. :( Battle Rage: The Robot Wars...Zombie Massacre...Soul Eater: Monotone Princess...Deadly Creatures...Monster Hunter III...
As far as library goes, I'd give that award to the 360. It's got so many amazing games, even if they decided not to release another title for the 360, I'd still say it would be tough for the Wii or PS3 to catch up in terms of quality titles.

lmmfao. Do you even know any of those games?
Soul Eater: Monotone Princess - Square Enix
Deadly Creatures - THQ (big game from them featured all over the place)
Monster Hunter III - Capcom exclusive stolen from PS3. Monster Hunter on PSP in Japan is on the same level as Pokemon right now.

It was simply saying they have bad titles. Not saying they'd actually suck, just making fun of the laughable titles. Although the likelihood of them sucking is still high to improbable. Monster Hunter games have supposedly been horrible to date, Deadly Creatures doesn't seem promising just because it's featured "all over", and I need to see more of Soul Eater...but so far Square Enix support for Nintendo hasn't been any better (in most cases) than that of Wii's current shovelware.

I mean 360 is doing everything right as in they are going in the right direction with things and are making smart moves with software, and accessories etc. The Wii has really poor games and I didn't just mean any T/M rated game I mean GOOD ones like RE4, Zelda etc. If you look at gamerankings for all 3 systems as to which have the most amount of excellent to decent games (75% is usually considered decent) these are the numbers:
Wii: 31 and 9 games ranked 85% or above.
Xbox 360: 130 with 33 games ranked 85% or above
PS3: 56 games with 17 games ranked 85% or above
9 excellent games can you believe that!! I own 7 out of those 9. These others are just ok or just above average. To me sales don't mean shit (even though it determines most things). If the game sucks it sucks whether it sells well or not. Just because a game sells really well doesn't mean it's suddenly good (some people actually think that). I want more GOOD WII GAMES!!! 1st or 3rd party regardless and the same with the PS3. This is why I said the 360 is more successful when it comes to quality. Fuck sales. I don't care if the next Pokemon game sells 10 mill it'll probably suck and that's that. I love all 3 systems (waiting for PS3 price drop) I just want to play the Wii more. I own over 25 360 games and most of them are out of those 33 85% or above games.

Lets also remember that the reviews of a game dont necessarily merit its greatness or lasting appeal.
The first Socom scored under the 85% mark, but dont tell me or the millions of others that gave a good 2 years of their life to that game that it wasnt great.
Mario Kart 64 BARELY made it above the 85% mark, while Mario Kart Wii did not. I have enjoyed both games immensely.
I agree that i want more good Wii games, but as Viper has already made obvious, no one thought this console would sell as well as it has, and now companies are trying to figure out what will sell on the console and develop accordingly. Until now, we will be getting alot of shovelware and poor titles, but we have had some strong efforts from various companies besides just Nintendo.
I agree with the other assessment of titles on the 360 though. It has a great back catalog already of great titles and has great support. However, it isnt a very diverse catalog when you look a little deeper though they are trying to diversify.
Also, i never mentioned sales of games. I mentioned sales of consoles. When you have a great software lineup, as 360 does, isnt it weird that their overall sales slowed in 2007 and that they are currently second?

You have to consider that the video game media has become elitist and score Wii games low even when they don't suck. Mario and Sonic is a damn good game but look at its scores. I can list a dozen others like it. I have lost all faith in our current review system.
Another thing, X360 has had a whole year head start on software vs Wii and that has lead to a lot of publisher support. Look back at Wii prior to launch and publishers turned their noses at it. because big budget games take 2-3 years to create, it's no wonder that the Wii is limited on big budget titles since it's only been out for 18 months.
X360 had a year head start, PS3 had the PS2 pedigree and publisher support, Wii was shunned. It's a damn miracle it's done as well as it has with such 3rd party backings.
Once it was a certified success, publishers scrambled to get games out for Wii and you know what a rush and no heart does to a game...shovelware p.o.s. Now that we're nearing that 2 year mark, we will see more efforts from publishers for Wii big budget titles.

That may be true to some extent but in general most reviewers are able to justify why they thought a game should warrant such a score. Such as when every Nintendo fan shed a tear after seeing Zelda: TP score an 8.8 from Gamespot, I like most, was extremely pissed. I am still a huge Zelda nut today, but I couldn't even say the game was worth any more than an 8.5. It's all subjective, and the text is what's truly important. Reading and taking in the details to determine if this type of gameplay would appeal to you or if these few glitches are enough to turn you off is the importance of the review, and I know you of all people know this Viper.
Plus, most people can't take a review scoring system and use it correctly. Mario and Sonic has an average score of 67%...is rating a game at this score really being "elitist"? Most people would say "the game must be crap" when a 67% should be looked at as a "decent to above average game". A 50% is where an average game sits. Mario and Sonic, while fun, certainly didn't seem to warrant anything higher than that score of 67% to me. Not every alright game has to score a 7.5 or above.
Hell, reviewers might as well rate games on a 6-10 scale with the way everybody looks at it. Considering a 6 out of 10 to be a bad score as most everyone seems to must mean anything lower shouldn't even exist. Anything a reviewer rates as average (50%) is lumped in as shovelware (0-20%) to most people anyway.

It doesn't matter one way or another. Wii need batt3r Wii gamz plox!!! I'd love to see more 3rd party because I'm kind of sick of the same Mario and Zelda games over and over again. The formula's getting really stale (with Galaxy being a better exception). I see your point Greeny but those games that score less than 60% or so and are decent are really rare and it's usually some iffy about the reviewers. This goes for Red Steel. That game was fun but was way better than a 60%. Like Red Steel those rare "bad games that are actually good" don't pop up enough so 70-75% is really as far as a pretty good game will go for. Of course it's all down to preference that's way we get idiots who shell $60 babbadoonies for Iron Man, movie based games, and crappy-fun-time games.
