<P>The following image was released by USAToday earlier this morning. Nintendo just came out a few minutes ago and confirmed that the image to your left IS the Nintendo DS. So there you go, the first official image of the Nintendo DS.</P>
<P>USAToday confirmed that the Nintendo DS will have two 3-inch screens. One of the screens will contain a touch-screen.</P>

Amazing. It looks like a futuristic game and watch. The features sound amazing. You can see the article here: http://www.usatoday.com/life/lifestyle/2004-05-11-nintendo-ds_x.htm

That screen looks like it has MK DD playing in it.
You're right Bobo ... it does.
OMFG That looks sooooo......
shitty actually. I'm really disappointed. Why are their bulky pieces of plastic to the left and right sides of the top screen? Couldn't they be chopped off?

I've also found articles from The Register: http://www.theregister.co.uk/2004/05/11/nintendo_ds_preview/
and Forbes: http://www.forbes.com/business/businesstech/newswire/2004/05/11/rtr1367219.html
EDIT (don't want to make too many posts):

I don't really see what you're talking about but something like that would probably be there to prevent the screens from coming into contact when it closes.

In the first attached image, I circled the plastic I was talking about. The second image is what it would look like without that plastic.
Looks a lot better doesn't it?

The fact that it has MK: DD in it could mean that it can play GC games with just a tiny graphical downgrade.

When I first saw the pictuers I thought the same thing, althoguh I still couldn't wait for it when i read about it. But then when I watched the Nintendo Press Conference and saw it in person, my mind changed. Trust me the DS is actually very sleek, and good looking, the pictures DO NOT give it justice.
Any1 else see the Metroid game they showed, omg, I couldn't see a difference between that and Metroid Prime.

***UPDATE***
That is not, I repeat NOT, the final casing for the DS. the design is still being completed but Nintendo wanted to have it playable at E3 so 17 mock-ups were put together for hands on playing.
Also to note, the 'X' and 'Y' butons have been added and wil be included in the final version.
Input devices so far.....
D-Pad
A, B, X, Y, L and R buttons.
Touch Screen and Stylus.
Voice Recognition.
Possible gyro input.
Control like never before from the innovator of the control such as the control stick, L and R buttons and Z-Trigger.

i'm guessing another 2 months, since the machine will have to be viewable and commercialized atleast 3 months before its release in Japn and the U.S, unless its release date was pushed back, which wouldn't be a surprising move by nintendo.

September release would be perfect for my birthday, or late 2004 for X-mas, but fat chance of that happening.
