RUMOR: 40gb Ps3 getting BC with Ps2 games

On the question there how this will look of technical side, was assured us that this should happen "to 100% through software to emulation". According to the dealer, the firmware would be planned for the October, however could not guarantee to hundred percent he this.

We can give also no guarantee for the correctness of this message, the fact however that Sony announced lately, also to want to banish PS2 games over the PSN, make this step yet very probably.

Thanks. I'm not fully believing this, but I figured I'd share with everyone what I found. If true it's pretty cool I guess... doesn't really change anything for me since I have a 60gb. But it's only a rumor for now.

Though it would be nice, it isn't quite technically plausible to do full software emulation of ps2 games on ps3. I could see an "emulator pack" of some sort released where a select handful of games are deemed playable through a downloadable emulator that is individually coded on a per game basis to allow the emulation of certain ps2 titles. what that would allow, since no ps2 hardware is used at all, would be further graphical enhancements such as running natively at a higher resolution with AA. But this would only be available for certain games if they even bother to do it at all.

The 80gb model always had BC. Couldn't play every game but most of them. There is a list on Sony's website somewhere. I believe the bundle is merely the same as the Motorstorm bundle, but replaced the controller with the new Dualshock 3 and the game with MGS4.

This rumor is about the 40gb model, which can only play Ps1 games but none of the Ps2 games.

bringing something like that back now? I don't see it happening. b/c is most important at the beginning. but now, especially after they took it off, it is hard for me to imagine them re-adding that feature back again.
