Konami look set to announce that the ultimate Metal Gear Solid experience, MGS for the PSOne, will be making its way to Sony's Playstation Network sometime in the next month, after the launch of Metal Gear Solid 4 Guns Of The Patriots. Along with further rumours that they are also planning to launch a software update with MGS4 to include cross media bar integration and those infamous trophies, it seems this is another rumoured aspect of the MGS saga.
The series has always been rumoured to appear in some shape or form on one of many downloadable services for various consoles over the last year. Microsoft's rival machine, the 360, is also being touted to recieve the original Playstation classic very shortly, if reliable sources are to be believed.
An original source over at PartnerNet, the developers-only Xbox Live network used to beta-test unreleased downloadable Xbox 360 games, commented on the rumours, and now it seems we are likely to hear from Konami imminently on this hot topic.
Keep your eyes posted here for the latest as it breaks

Too little too late I say...
I got it from a friend, so I don't really need it anymore

Well, a lot of gamers won't have played MGS1, so this is good for the backstory of MGS4.
But I wonder how we're supposed to get Meryl's frequency number...

haha maybe it includes it in the game description or something? or maybe they just expect you to know how to use the net.

Maybe the firmware update(aka trophies) is the surprise Payton was talking about, which not even those with leaked copies would be able to spoil?

I hope so. Be intersting to see what kind of trophies there would be for MGS.

Sweet. Although I wish they had included this in MGS4 as an easter egg. Like you find a PS1 somewhere and can actually play it. That would be too funny. LOL

MGS1 on 360. Hrm.
But if 2.40 is released with MGS4, that would rock!

One of the best games of all time imo. The game that started it all (well not the first Metal Gear..but first MGS). Perfect timing too. People will want to re-experience the MGS saga after they complete MGS4..and if they don't have the original game. Now they can have it.

It is just a rumor right now.
With SCEA's piss poor record with releasing PSone games on PSN, I wouldn't hold my breath.
But seriously, if this happens, it is a purchase for me, for sure.

i could have swore i heard ryan peyton say they had no plans to bring this to US PSN on one of the podcasts, but of course he could have just been trying to keep it under wraps.
Maybe thats what the trailer where old snake has a flashback of a MGS1 mission was meant to hint at, a HD MGS1 remake.

^^^that would be incredible though i do not think we are that lucky. im guessing that some of the "flashback" scenes are playable, nothing more.

Anyways, I agree with Omni that those games should be added. But of course SCEA are dumbasses, and they will not release any PSone games on PSN for some goddamn reason.

You do realize how much work goes into a "simple port" of the PS1 games that make it to PSN? Theres a ton of work that needs to be done, not so much on the PS3 side, but to make it PSP compatible. Not all PS1 games port perfectly over to the PSP, most have issues that break the game and make it unplayable and require firmware updates and testing on all sides to make sure everything works as it should. You guys (as always) are only seeing the end results of a lot of work that is likely only being done by one or two teams.
Also you can view a games manual on the PSN releases of a game, and they will likely have the re-release manual of MGS1 that came with the essentials collection (it includes meryl's codec inside).

Do you work for Sony? How do you know lots of work is involved? I have custom firmware on my PSP so I can try out any PS1 game I have (i.e. ones not on PSN) on my PSP once I have ISO'd it and made it into an eboot. None of the games I have tried so far (MGS1, RE2, Future Cop:LAPD, FFVII, Point Blank, Oddworld) have had any issues with textures, clipping, framerate, sound etc. even MGS with two discs works, since there is a workaround. All of these games have been tried out on custom firmware 3.40...hardly very recent, so it's not like the PS1 emulator needs updating.
I'm not saying that every game will work on PSP perfectly since I haven't tried them all, but I'm willing to bet a lot of them will. As for conversion time it only takes me ten minutes. Obviously if I tried to replicate the manual and game icons it would take a little longer, but not 6 or more months longer.

thing is, ff7 ports prettymuch flawlessly over to the psp
ive played it, admittedly there might be the possibility of bugs ive not come across, but if i can make a psp compat copy of ff7 with one pc tool in about a half hour, the sony team shouldn't have that hard of a time doing it

PS1 emulation on the PS3 (with PSOne discs) is pretty much perfect with all the PSOne games I have tried. I am pretty sure MGS1 would be the same. The only difference is it would need to be converted into a format which the PS3 can read (people have been doing this with PSP's for the longest time now with programs that convert ISO's to eboot). What really pisses me off is the ammout of PSone games in the Japanese stores. Like you have a whole slew of great PSOne games in the store over there yet over here, we have jack all when it comes to PSOne support. Now I don't hate sony by any means, but SCEA really is stupid. I mean, if MGS were to come out on PSN in a couple of weeks, I know it would be a instant download for me, and probably an instant download for many of the people on this forum.

MGS1 was released on PS1 and PC. MGS2 was released on PS2, Substance released on Xbox and PS2.
It shouldn't be that big of a deal if MGS1 gets released on Xbox Live. Except all those 360 fans will be claiming it as a sign MGS4 will be coming to 360.

Isn't the limit for Arcade titles 250 mb? I doubt they'll be able to fit the 2 cd's within that limit, even with compression.

Capcom was excused for this limit for HD remix. Ironically enough, they were the ones who got the orginal limit expanded in the first place for Street Fighter II: Hyper Fighting.
Konami could be excused for this limit if they were going to release MGS1.

Still, it will probably be at least 700 mb. You really think they'll allow that?
Also, they'd have to port the game to the 360 if they want to release it on Live, whereas it's no problem throwing it in PSN as-is, bar much better compression.

Indeed and i rather the ol PS1 graphics over the GC one aswell. sure the GC one has "better" graphics but i think the PS version leaves more to the imagination. I didn't really like seeing FoxHound in GC quality. Wolf wasn't anywhere near as hot as i imagine her to be :P haha!
