You have to get the psycho mantis/ sorrow puppeteer dolls that she has. I believe you also have to use the syringe on yourself.

Let the enemies grab you initially then press the cqc button once they grabbed you with the syringe equiped and you will incapacitate them. Keep doing this till you are alone with Meryl so you have some space to work with.
Follow the same routine with Meryl. I think though you have to deplete her psyche bar 2 or three times ( i suppose this also depends on what difficulty level you chose also ) before she finally goes down. While your doing all of this keep injecting yourself with the syringe cause it stops mantis from controlling you and your aim improves so you can shoot her puppets out of her hands. She goes apeshit at this point rasing all enemies up again and she starts killing Meryl by lifting her up in front of her and draining her health. If you shoot her with normal weapons you will help kill her so at this point use your stun gun . Make sure you use your tranq gun to deplete Meryls psyche gauge so mantis will drop her and stop depleting her health otherwise i assume (cause she never died on me) game over. While your doing all this keep shooting the puppets and once one of them falls down the game tells you what to do from there and how to use the puppets.

There is probably an easier way to kill her but ive only faced her once and it also took me quite a while to figure it out. Alos if i remember correctly if you shoot the machine that shows the virtual world display you can shoot better at Mantis in the earlier parts of the battle with her.

Mantis is the simplest boss: just shoot her two dolls. you need to aim good since they are small and far off. when both fall, get them and equipt one of them and use it against her. then she is a goner.

I was wondering... On your second playthrough, do you have to do that again? Or can you just equip the dolls you have and pwnt the bitch from the getgo?

I started a second play-through on the hardest difficulty and I didn't get any of my acquired weapons from the start. is there a way to get your items and weapons from the start? because that will save me a lot of time and make exploration and experimentation that much easier and enjoyable.

I did. it asked me to chose the difficulty. I did. then it made me start with a clean slate. unless you get everything back after you meet the Mk-II, I have nothing.

ah, okay. the thing is, it said I'll get the game-completion extras (extra clothes color and what not) after the Mk-II intro, but I don't care for those.

now, time to learn all the goodies, Easter-eggs and quirks I can get before replaying it. I don't want to miss anything.

You can use it on any enemy as far as i'm aware. i whip it out everynow and then to have fun with patrol guards haha.
