Why is there so much useless items in oblivion? Plates, Cups and so on, why didnt they make some small kind of use for these things instead of just taking up memory?

Yeah basically it just makes the game more realistic. Yeah it kinda sucks when you are trying to take food and you grab other shit like plates and cups ect... Buts its a great game. Got all 1250 achievements. Can't wait for another one.

^Fallout 3? Its made by the same guys and although itll be quite different, I hear its meant to be like a more potent Oblivion.

As has already been pointed out, these things are there because they're realistic. If you wander into a stranger's house in reality, you'll find it littered with all sorts of things of little to no value to you, but they're there because they're necessary objects of life, just as they would be in Oblivion.

I really don't know what use they could have given them, but you aren't really expected to horde them. If you were robbing a house in reality, you aren't likely to stuff your loot sack with silverware, and you aren't expected to do it in Oblivion, either. Don't pick up the trivial stuff and instead just focus on stuff that's worth selling.

Oh, I did remember one small use for at least a couple of those trivial things. In the Shivering Isles there is a quest of sorts that involves forks and tongs. A crazy guy (like all the inhabitants of the Shivering Isles) wants them for something he was constructing (I think it was a flying boat or something ridiculous like that) and will buy them from you.

when i needed to get money from stealing stuff, id always steal silver plates and cups and stuff, because they dont weigh very much and you could grab a shit of them and after a while it would add up

Cool, as long as they made a purpose for them or a quest, then youd at least appreciate them more, but yeah, got a point adds realism in the end of it all....

The price on it has dropped until late october. It is now like 20$ or 15$ or something.

I think in morrowind they had uses for a lot of them (not all) but like tongs and calipers etc I think you could use with blacksmithing. Though most of the stuff is just their to add realism and to give you stuff to steal and sale.

I actually bought Morrowind for PC and I hated it. God that game was soooooooooo slooooooooooooooooow all of the walking around without that warp system really just kills the experience. The game was just so boring and I sold the game. Oblivion however was amazing and I still don't get why there is so much useless crap like cups, plates, cloth, spoons etc. With the expansion combined I think I've logged 87 hours into that game and completed it about 96%. That was was amazing and I just pre-ordered Fallout 3 yesterday along with Gears of War 2.

Morrowind was slower without the warping etc. You could use silt striders though. The combat was another thing oblivion is much better in, but morrowind had a lot more depth to it.

At the end of the day, it would be cool if you could use the cups for drinking maybe, plates for eating, to revitalize yourself, and so on, yarn could be used to make a shirt maybe to sell or whatever, just some small use for these items to make the game even better or more realistic...
