A university professor has made a tax calculator. Basically it will show you what your taxes will be like if Obama is president. Or if McCain becomes president.

Sweet. Either plan will cost me less than the current plan. I get it all back anyway, because I'm poor, but you know..

Why not just get rid of the income tax to start with?

I haven't been keeping up with the whole Ron Paul thing, and I know I may get slapped in the face for this...
but Viper, is that really such a practical idea?

Not without other things taking its place and certainly not with the way our government spends money right now. Though ron paul didn't say he would get rid of it right away, you couldn't. Though you could cut back on it by a large amount. Most of the services we receive like roads, schools, etc are payed for by the states and state taxes.

you could cut taxes by privatising everything. But that creates problems much worse than taxes. They also need to be regulated, which, as we've seen, isn't always guaranteed by greedy government, and if it doesn't happen can lead to large volumes of shit hittting a very high speed fan.

All the income tax pays for is the interest drawn on the money the government is loaned from the Federal Reserve.
By Constitutional law, we are supposed to tax income anyway. But that was amended to help create the Federal Reserve...a private company that prints our money (also unconstitutional) which loans the money (yes, our own dollar) to the government plus interest. When you hear that term, "The Fed has lowered interest rates today...", all that means is that company is lowered the interest rate it is charging the government to loan it money.
