View Full Version : Automatic updates

Now that my library of games and apps have grown, I am finding my once loved and eagerly anticipated updates being more of a pain.
For example, I read that 2.5 was available, so turned on for that. Then I fancied a quick blast on Wipeout before some TV at 9pm, only to find that it needed an update too! Result - no playing, more like system admin!
My suggestion is an option that would allow updates to be downloaded in the background for those games, PSN titles and other software (like Play TV and the system update too). It would be best if you select for every title, as you may have some only played infrequently and so you are not too bothered about keeping them up to date.
Anyone else share my view - we could make this happen if we all want it.
(sorry if this is a duplicate post - I tried to post it, but it did not appear).

It was moved to the firmware thread, although no redirect was left by the system.

Your best chance to be listened to is to post in the comments section of the US PlayStation blog. User suggestions and complaints have been heard in the past. For instance, due to popular demand, you don't have to plug the controller in the PS3 anymore when installing a system update.

hey Wasted, where've you been?

yeah, I agree with you that the whole update issue could be done better. not only background and automatic updates, but installs should be done automatically as well like how 360 does it.

but with FW 2.5 we can see they are aware of these issues and are doing something about them. the problem with all PSN issues is how they handled it from the start which is making PS3 firs in japna, then shoving it to their software team to make software for it practically just before launching it. I think even SOE was called in late for their PS3's online infrastructure. I'm pointing these out in the PS4 thread.

I'm not sure how possible that is though, since most updates require restarts of some kind. A lot of times even on PCs & stuff you gotta take it one at a time, just more encouragement to turn on your PS3 as often as possible :-p

Thanks for your suggestion - I might post there if we all think it is a big enough issue.

Can you help me find the firmware thread - sorry!
