lol, I just made a Smokey Robinson reference in class last night when we were talking about a story called "Tandolfo the Great," about a heart-broken clown, so I mentioned "Tears of a Clown" that Stevie Wonder wrote for Smokey...

Don't leave us hanging; did anyone get the reference?!

I heard one guy laugh but it was probably just the mention of Smokey Robinson himself

We still get smooth Soul and R&B artists but they don't get air play anymore....sadly. :(

Something about them feels different, though. Probably the overproduction of modern music... but maybe I'm not hearing the right stuff. Got any recommendations?

D'Angelo is the man of modern R&B, although he hasn't released an album in 8 years.

What radio stations and kids call R&B today is simply techno hop influenced pop music. There's not even any soul singing, it's mostly pop singing with voice synths.

It probably doesn't get as much play because soul music has become quite stagnant, it really hasn't changed since Motown.

D'Angelo is that 6-pack singer?
I remember listening to him for a bit.

I haven't heard anything as good as the oldies.
Not lately anyways.

?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

WHAT?!?!?!

Really???

THAT IS "THE KID" FROM KIDS INCORPORATED.

I was like in love with that kid when I was little. I totally did not keep track of him and didn't know he was still making music. I'll have to look him up.

(In case you were wondering, "Fergie" also came from Kids Inc... Stacy Ferguson.. like hours of my childhood life were spent singing along with the TV show pretending to be her. Too bad she turned out to be whorey.)

Jill Scott is a must
Musiq
Queen Latifa's new stuff from what I'm told
I never get tired of listening to the Four Tops
And I recommend Chromeo, for those who don't know.

I used to sing with a group that covered their music. They still tour but doesn't look like they'll be going back into the studio anytime soon because that kind of music just doesn't make the radio rotation anymore.

He's been dropping albums since 1997.
