Is anyone going to see this movie? I really enjoyed the 1st one and am disappointed they replaced Frank, but it should still work. I did enjoy his Titus Pullo character on Rome.

I would if I wasn't in Iraq until March. The trailer sold me on it in an instant, and Jigsaw looks sweet.

Gay? You sir, are an idiot.

Like 4 people's heads explode in the trailer, and like 8 necks get broken.

I recommend it to my friends as a quick remedy for impotence.

Is this even directed by the same person? The style is COMPLETELY different.

First move - Kick ass.
Second movie - Just ass.

The 2nd movie has nothing at all to do with the first. It is a completely new, and more accurate, depiction of the Frank Castle seen in the comics.

Hell yes it is. He's been knocked up a notch from 90% murder to 3000%.

Which was why I liked the first one.

Comic books have a tendency to not translate well onto the big screen and the decision to take The Punisher into a more credible direction made it work well.

Throwing it together like the comic book will take away some of what it gained with the first film.

Either way, after watching Twilight, Punisher is Oscar worthy.

It's from the same director as (Green Street) Hooligans, so I actually think it could turn out quite well, I'll be watching it :)

Just watched the redband trailer... it looks like a comedy. The violence and cinematography reminds me of Planet Terror.

I'm in

This thread inspired a writeup on my site. It took forever due to bouncing internet connectivity I've been having since Sunday... Go Time Warner's "Highest Rated Customer Service"!

An excerpt.

Thomas Jane as "The Punisher": Better!

I'll admit it, the way I found out about the new Punisher movie was by being in the theater to see something totally different and looking over and seeing this imposing image in the corner of the lobby. By this stage in my life, fascination with comic books has just about diminished completely, however, I do still hold fancy towards the stories I'm familiar with. Thomas Jane, with his "Is that Christopher-fucking-Lambert" qualities was a great fit for the role... though I've never heard of him before.

That's not such a bad thing to say about the man, however: Comic book movies and their large ensemble casts have done much to bring a lot of "unknown" talent out... look at Hugh Jackman as Wolverine in the X-Men movies! The guy has since become one of my favorite actors and, the name alone, is enough to convince me to buy a ticket. The same goes now for Thomas Jane... who, thank god, dons that wicked fuck-nasty Skull shirt for this version of "The Punisher"!

Whereas Dolph Lundgren's emotionless depiction of The Punisher may have been accidental (ie: Lack of range), Thomas Jane is able to dive into the character and really bring his pain out in crucial moments during the story, fleshing out the ink and paper original into a real person that we, as real people, can get behind... or at least begin to understand.

The biggest weakness of this Punisher movie may have been John Travolta. Seriously, it pains me to say that, because I also love Travolta in just about any movie the guy's in... and we've seen him pull off "lovable" baddies before in Broken Arrow and Face/Off, just to name a couple. Such a strong protagonist coupled with a weak antagonist? It boils down to Thomas Jane's immensely interesting Frank Castle dallying through a "Who-gives-a-fuck" fest of fast paycheck acting jobs from a cast of people who are "in between" other projects.

I also admit to having not heard much in the way of fan's approval/disapproval of Thomas Jane as the Punisher, so take this as 100% my own opinion.

Ray Stevenson as "The Punisher": Skeptical.

Now, I've gone to the movies and seen just as many comic book movies as the next guy has, but when I do, I typically go in with the "It's just a comic book movie" mentality... I'm not expecting anything life altering, just looking for a well constructed thrill ride. I'm nowhere near the type of nerd that criticizes everything for comic book continuity and accuracy to the source material, and I especially don't care for casting in comic book movies either.

I saw the redband trailer. I'm sure The Punisher: Warzone will be the batshit insane kill fest that I had secretly wished for when watching both previous Punisher films, I have to really stop and consider Ray Stevenson as Frank Castle. I'm not sure what it is... some glimpses of him during the trailer are about as close to 100% accurate as you can get (if you're comparing Stevenson to the original illustrations of The Punisher), but then in other shots... the guy kind of looks puny. I've no clue the physical build of Ray Stevenson, but in some shots, it just looks like we're going to be stuck with a 5'6" 190lbs Frank Castle... and I'm really not sure on that.

I'll pay the $3.25 to see the movie opening day (tee hee, I've got a secret theater) and watch it all objectively. It seems like, according to the pre-production notes, that Thomas Jane was attached to Warzone as well, and it would be interesting to find out why the decision to recast was made. It'll also be interesting to see if the new "Marvel Knights" brand of films finds its footing with this version of The Punisher, or if the movie will usher the franchise towards what may be the "Least profitable comic book film trilogy" of all time.

He was cast because Thomas Jane read the script to the sequel and said, "No thanks."

True story.

I could have sworn this new one has absolutely nothing to do with the old one.

Viper

True, it's not really a sequel in the standard sense. Though Jane did turn down the roll because he felt the script was horrible and the direction was way off from the first.

What I won't do is spend months of my life sweating over a movie that I just don't believe in

I like the way he thinks.

He needs to sit the Twilight main character down and teach him a few lessons in script respect.

I swear I read Tom Jane left cause he was sick of it being in development hell for so long. His heart just wasn't in it anymore.

Viper

Had nothing, or at least little, to do with the development schedule and everything to do with the direction of the character, the franchise and the bad script and rewrites.

He has been pretty damn blunt and frank about the whole issue.

As do I. Perfect demeanor, perfect tone.....this new guy seems like the bald space marine we've come to hate from today's First Person Shooters.
