hmmmm... Can't say i'm a huge fan of the Lexus. 8 gears sounds good on paper, but its a hell of a lot (i've got a six speed manual and i find myself only using even gears much of the time) and it doesn't have the power (or the sound, or redline) to really match it with merc's seven speed.

Believe me, when Tim Schrick says the gearbox is great, it is.
No one hates bad gearboxes as much as he does. ;)

Not saying its a bad gearbox, just saying its a lot of gears :)

Fairly tall gearing as well apparently, which defies the point somewhat.
