EXCLUSIVE: A brief sighting of Ken Lobb reveals a lot, especially for Nintendo loyalists.

After going in and out of the Nintendo DS area tons of times and laughing while people waited in line for 2 hours+, I went in on my second to last trip and met up with Microsoft's Ken Lobb.

At first we played some Picto-Chat together where we communicated with our drawings on the Nintendo DS.

Secondly, we began to speak and what he said was short but very revealing.

Being paraphrased as I don't have the exact quote, he went on and said,

"It's Mr. Pants would be great with the touch pad and the stylus!"

For those of you who don't know, It's Mr. Pants is a very mysterious Rare game based off a character made up on its website at http://www.rareware.com.

After him mentioning that, I began to speak to him about the Nintendo DS. He loves the DS and confirmed with me that Rare does have DS development kits and that two titles are in the works for the DS.
I for one am a huge fan of Rare and with Rare still making titles for the GBA and the Nintendo DS, I cannot wait for their next title.

He also went on to say that It's Mr Pants! is complete and has been for some time now, but for some reason THQ doesn't want to publish it.

More as it breaks.

Rare is back. I hope that it is a JFG game. It was awesome on the 64. Rare has been taking it easy nowadays.

WoW, the Rare website is the most updated developer website i've seen. it's great to hae another Rare game to play, but why is microsoft allowing that to happen? Do you guys think Microsoft is planning to seel Rare, since Rare has not created any profit for Microsoft for the past year and a half.

Microsoft has no plans to make a handheld and can make lots of money having it's 1st party company make GBA and DS games. Plus anything MS can do to make a Nintendo handheld sell well, it will do because it desperately wants the PSP to fail.

Yes for quite a large sum of money too, (A few billion dollars if I remember right) and Yamuachi told them to shove it.

Uh, Fish...it was to GET MS in the console business and to have control over the worlds most popular video game franshises.

^oops,i should have thought about my question before i asked, but atleast that credifies the fact that Nintendo is the best game developer to exist. Atleast that is what i think.

Maybe it's the start of a new partnership between them. To oust Sony.

It is pretty smart on Microsoft's part. So long as they aren't entering the handheld market, developing games for another comapnies handheld means nothing but profit, and it ton't affect the console buissness in any way, and yes Viper is right about Sony.

And when i say they aren't entering the handhelb market, I mean this coming generation, next is a differenct story, if Y-Box2 makes good profit (and it will) expect it to coincide with Y3.

I am going to harass Rare and send them billions of e-mails until they are forced under my mighty wrath to release Perfect Dark for the DS. That's Wi-Fi compatible.

I find it funny that after Nintendo told MS to shove it, MS started poking fun at Nintendo, calling them "kiddy" and whatnot.

Ha, just shows how much more power Nintendo has over Microsoft.

Glenn2K4
06-22-2004, 11:57 AM
^ how?

Nintendo just declined a business offer..that doesn't mean that much really.

BriSter1337
06-23-2004, 06:04 AM
That Microsoft can't buy them out because Nintendo has to approve it. If you ask me, that's power. Any business can refuse to be bought out, sure, but in this case that makes Nintendo untouchable in terms of another company owning them.

like BriSter mentioned, Perfect Dark on the DS would definately be a good game to have on the online list

definately would move some Ds units off the shelves as well.

Sorry everyone, but this Rare isn't working on the DS. Microsoft said it themselves. Here's the link (http://www.nlgaming.com/nl/asp/id_2778/nl/newsDisp.htm).

That is MS PR work at the moment. Too many reports are coming from inside MS saying they are. Give it a few months and they will announce the games.

It's just a rumor, and this kind of news isn't the first time it happened either. Remember Nintega? Yeah, people said Sega and Nintendo were teaming up when Sony started to do good. In fact, this usually happens every couple of years when Nintendo might be linking up with another company that's their rival, but never ends up happening. Even the Official X-Box Magazine's Rumor Mole said that Nintendo might help Microsoft build the architect for Xenon (the next X-Box console).

What I'm getting at is MS has already publicly stated they will support Nintendos handhelds and already have with a few Rare titles. Couple that with some internal rumblings that have been talked bout by various people in key places and it has much more weight than your common rumor. Do remember that MS denies everything until they give a PR statement, like the lack of a hard drive in Next X.

First off, those "Rare" games that came out for the GBA were just projects left unifinished before the merging of Rare and Microsoft and were made to be complete to end all the strings between them and Nintendo. All Nintendo-owned icons made from Rare were then given to THQ.

Besides, that why it's called A RUMOR. People always ramble about stuff like this, and try to give it juice to make it more believable. Rare is not working with Nintendo to make more games. Nintendo gave a peice of the DS hardware to them to try and see how innovative it was, but nothing more.

Finally, Microsoft usually denies things, but going so far as saying Nintendo and Microsoft teaming up is just utter bull. I ain't going to believe it, and the only way I'm going to believe it is if Nintendo says it themselves. The company takes pride in what they do, so I can't see them helping anyone else other than themselves.

Kameo still doesnt look good to me now...i like the concept of it on GCN.

ironically, Kameo looked less-kiddy when she was on GCN.

thus, this is sad news Rare isnt making games for the DS afterall :(

M$ denying rare is doing anything else on nintendo systems feels like Nintendo denying their relationship with rare would change.
This explains why they are searching for NON-THQ based publishers. Bye the way on their site they confirmed Mr. Pants for GBA. in the article they said its also done for DS.

so is Mr. Pants related to Mr. Hat?
