View Full Version : Have any of you had this problem? (Possible Call of Duty: World at War glitch)

Hi, all;
It's been a while since I've last posted anything, but I have a problem, and need some advice as to how to handle it. I've been experiencing difficulty on Call of Duty World at War, and, I need some help
I was playing the level, Blowtorch and Corkscrew, and I was doing fine, until I reached the part where you had to blow the bunkers with the satchel charges. I set the charges, but when i tried to blow up the bunker... nothing happened. The charges went off, but all I got was a puff of smoke. I tried throwing them from a distance and setting them off. Still nothing.
Oh, one other thing. When the flashing icons appear, they somehow are not set properly. The one on the right hand side is curious, because when I set that one, the bomb "disappears" or is swallowed up by the yellow icon,. That is, covered up by the yellow icon, instead of sitting on top of it. This will happen even though I am standing directly over the bomb site, and even if I am able to align the bombs exactly. I have tried this at the second bunker as well, only to have experienced the same result. So my question to you is this: has anybody else experienced this? Is this a glitch, or am I doing something wrong? If it is a glitch, should I try to return it to the store and exchange it for a new copy? If any of you have the game, I would like to hear from you.
Thanks in advance,
Bowser.

I didn't experience any glitches like that myself.
You could try renting the game and using your save file and see if he problem persists. If if doesn't, that would indicate out have a faulty disc and you'd need to contact Activision.
If it does persist, it might mean you are doing something wrong.
Good luck.

Really, in that situation id just return the faulty game personally :P

Not all retailers will take it back so easily and better yet Activision may compensate your troubles with free software.
Always, always complain to the publisher first.
No, I mean slip the faulty game for the rental game, I very much doubt they do much checking.

Oh, you mean rent the game but return your faulty copy? I thought most outlets have a sticker on the disc itself they scan. I know Blockbuster does.
Admittedly, I haven’t rented a game in a long time, but I dot recall any stickers back when I actually did rent them but maybe that’s changed recently.

"Ah, but you see, I e-mailed Activision yesterday. At first, they sent me an automatic response, but all it contained was some stuff on online gaming. Since then responses have been e-mailed back forth, with no real success. At first, I thought that it was a problem on my end, but the more I think about it, the more I realize that it could not be player error. I honestly cannot see how those charges could not go off. I can see them in my minds eye: Place with Z, move several paces, then press B, and BOOM! nothing happens. I even told Activision this, and they basically told me to consult Gamefaqs. This was surprising to me, as I had asked them about the possibility that it could be a glitch, but they keep insisting it was my "fault"!
I tried to be more specific in my next letter, but they sent this in response:
"Hello,
If you believe you are encountering a progression break, restart the level and progress back to the point you're having trouble with. If you still have trouble, I recommend consulting a play guide.
The Wii and other console versions are identical in their single player modes. You can use the walkthroughs from one of the other versions".
I then sent them this reply:
"Dear Activision:
No, I do not believe I am experiencing a "progression break", as you put it. I am experiencing a software problem. I have had this problem for several days now, and I still have the problem. I don't know how else to describe this to you, but it is not my fault. I have placed the bombs correctly, and then detonated them, only to have the bunkers still intact. There is no possible way that I could be doing this wrong. As I mentioned before, one of the bombs does NOT COVER THE SLOT, even if I place it correctly. In fact the bomb is covered over by the yellow, to the point where it is almost invisible. This does not happen in Call of Duty games. Usually, when a prompt comes up to set explosives, the computer automatically sets it. Yet in this game, for some reason, one has to set it up manually, and even then, it won't work like it's supposed to. In fact, even if you STAND OVER THE ICONS, AND PLACE THE BOMBS DIRECTLY OVER THE TARGET, they STILL won't explode the bunker.
I'm not a dummy. I'm doing everything the game is asking me to do, correctly, but it won't behave like it is supposed to. I fail to see how a walk through, or a strategy guide, will help me with a computer glitch. Again, there is no response when the bombs go off, nothing. It doesn't indicate that I have blown up a bunker, it doesn't update my objectives or anything. I originally thought it was on my end, but it appears that the game itself has a bug in it.
I'm really getting upset about this, so this will be my last reply to you. I don't know how else to express to you my frustration over this issue. If I still believed that it was a matter of consulting a strategy guide, I would have done so, but it is not my fault. No matter what happens, there is no result. I just don't see how a simple thing like blowing up a bunker can be so complicated, because there is no way that those charges should have acted like that. I need to know now... so if you can't help me, then I will have no other choice but to return the game".
And that's basically where I left it. I have yet to receive a response. I'm beginning to think that they don't want to admit to the possibility of having sold buggy software, because it would mean that they would have to take responsibility for it.
Anyway, enough bitching for now. Thanks for the feedback, Viper. I'll let you know how things turn out.

Are you sure you're planting them in the right place? I had this problem in the 360 version and it turns out that I was planting them where I saw flashing objects, but those objects weren't actually the objective, the bunkers.

Interesting. I don't know, because when you get to the first set of icons,(just below the cave opening, the first set of icons lights up. The game then prompts you to select the charges with the left D-pad, and place them with Z. That's what got me so worked up, initially, because it wasn't doing what it was supposed to. I even went up to the second location, on the hill to the right of the cave, and tried it again, with no results.
Anyway, I decided to restart the game again last night, with a new game save profile, just to see if the same same problem reoccurs. Now that you've mentioned it, I think I'll scout out the area a little more.
EDIT: Green Elf, you were right! It turns out that I was placing the charges in the wrong place after all. I didn't realize that the yellow icons actually resupply your ammo, and that you had to place the charges elsewhere. Silly me, wish I'd thought of it earlier. Thanks both to you and Viper for the help. I really appreciate it.

For as good a game as it is solo, the online segment is fant-damn-tastic.

Yeah, I'm glad too. It kind of irritates me when I can't finish a game. Kinda like having to swat away flies from my food during the summer

You're not kidding. I've played it almost every single day, and I love it... but I can't say the same about my win-loss record. Sometimes, I'll get on a roll, and other times, I get my you-know-what handed to me. Don't even get me started on veteran mode. I tend to do better with scoped weapons like the Springfield, than with the automatic rifles. Well, just wait until I unlock the ft, then I can do some serious damage.

I'd suggest working with a team first until you unlock enough perks to be a serious solo force. That's helped me so far.

Interesting. See, I haven't played all that much single player death match; I tend to focus on team death match. At first, I started off with winning teams, and racked up a lot of points. But recently, I've been placed with a lot of stiffs, and my stats have suffered a bit. (Well, not that they were that good to begin with). Overall, I've been improving steadily, but I've noticed that, bit by bit, my competition seems to be getting better. I've encountered a few newer players, here and there, but overall, there are some really good ones out there.
Overall, I tend to fluctuate in the player rankings. Sometimes, I will finish first or second, other times I will finish third. One thing I've noticed that it's hard to get a streak going. Three days ago, I had a streak of 15 for the first time (yay!). But I've only gotten one streak of seven since then.
Speaking of online play, may I ask what level of XP are you at?

I'm only in the upper 20's right now. With the holidays and the kids being home from school, I don't get much time.
I too work mostly in Team Deathmatch. I've also learned which stages work best in my favor. I love the Castle and Dome stages. I can wreck havoc with the right equipment.
I tell you something that pissed me off for a long while was those people dropping grenades when they died. I couldn't figure out how the hell they were dropping them so fast at death. Then I got the Martyrdom perk. It's amazing how many you kill with that if you strategically get yourself cornered with a bunch right near you.

Yeah, I'm in the low thirties, not to brag or anything. :) Me, I love the Cliffside and Castle stages. I found a great sniping spot at the far end of the Cliffside map. You get a great view of the valley below, and hardly anyone goes there, so you can go there for a while without anyone noticing.Having kids? Yeah, I guess it would be difficult to find time for yourself. Well, I'm still single,so I guess I'd better make as much of my bachleorhood as I can.

I know! I had the same trouble too! It's like we're psychic or something! I couldn't understand it either. Now, what really bugs me is getting sniped. I am amazed at how many different positions you can get sniped from. Last night, I was playing on the Makin level, and I climbed up in the giant hut, and I kept getting killed. I couldn't figure out where the shots were coming from. I was playing Veteran, mind you, and I was getting annihilated. Finally, I was able to sneak up on him and take him out(he was on one of the ramps across the way). Thing is, he still kept going to that spot, even though I had sussed him out. I managed to get 2 kills and 2 assists from that one guy alone(I probably should have had five or six).
As for the martyrdom perk, I hadn't thought of using that one in quite that way. I should try it out. As a matter of fact... I'll do it right now.

I'm in the 50's now. Changed up some perks and I get 20+ kills per round with a 40 kill game here and there.
Type 100
Perk 1 - Bomb Squad
Perk 2 - Double Tap
Perk 3 - Steady Aim
Seems the servers have been having some trouble lately. Every few games results in either a disconnect or major lag. I don't think Activision expected the game volume they have.
How well is this game even selling on the Wii? While it isnt my cup of tea, they certainly put forth a great effort on Wii and it would be a shame if it didn't sell.

First, some perspective for this type of game.
MOH2: Heroes - 260k (No European numbers known)
007: Quantum of Solace - 300k
COD3 - 620k (No European numbers known)
COD:WaW - 430k (selling at 75k per week now which is better than when it launched. Will sell over 1 million units in a few more months and keep selling that way until COD:MW2 comes out)

Yeah, I've noticed a few problems too, but not to the extent that you have. I tend to see more glitchiness, in game, where other player's characters seem to skip a frame or two. I've been disconnected a few times myself, but it doesn't seem to happen all that often. By the way, I heard that Activision initially shorted the supply for the game. Is this true?
BTW-40 kills? Holy crap. I just barely managed 30 the other day, and most times, I can get between 15 and twenty. My game is improving though, and I've managed to even rattle off a few 7 streaks(with two happening in the same game). I've also managed to get a couple of ten streaks, now and again.
Oh, yeah, since, you brought it up-level 56. :) I keep reconfiguring the classes, so that I can complete all the weapons challenges. Still a work in progress. I also experiment with all the perks, but I switch between martyrdom, and second chance.

Activision did have the Wii version in short supply as stores ran out quickly. the first few resupplies also ran out quickly. I don't know the current stock situation though. I do know they better get some more (and better connected) servers soon because Wii games are notorious for huge legs. (http://forums.e-mpire.com/showthread.php?t=90665) Many games end up selling 10,15 even 20 times what they sold in week one and COD:WaW launched to just 61k.
I don't get 40+ kills very often. Usually it's on the Cliffs or Dome stage. I rack up 5 kills as quick as I can, drop a well placed artillery strike while I hide which will get me the dogs. I hold off using the dogs until after I die, then unleash them. They usually kill enough to get more dogs or artillery and I do it all over again. If done just right, only the first 5 deaths actually come from my gun.
I wish my win ratio were better though. Getting dropped into a match already in progress with just a minute to go and your team is losing 250 - 730 just kills your win ratio and you can't exit the game without it affecting your loses too.

Typically, Dome is not the best stage for me to build up a streak. (Though, I have had success there) Typically, the best times I've had are on Cliffside, as that is the place where I typically build up momentum. (Courtyard works too). By the way, that strategy with the dogs sounds interesting. I might try it out.

I know the feeling. I can't get my win ratio past .51 (Yeah, I know, I'm working on it). What really concerns me is my kill/death ratio. It used to be a really atrocious .32. It has steadily risen since then, but man, I was slaughtered in the beginning. It's like climbing out of a huge hole, I'm just scrambling to get out.

I had a damn good run earlier today. Me and 2 other guys stuck together for a 12 game win streak (only ended because I had to leave) that had all 3 of us just annihilating everyone no matter what stage we played.
The lag and disconnects also were not a factor today at all. Maybe Activision read my posts, hehe.
My win/lose ratio is getting better, thanks in part because of streaks like that. I'm a 0.62 now. That seems to be the key is working with a winning team for a s long as you can so you don't get dropped into a fucked up game.
My kill ratio is now above 1.00 as of this weekend. I'm in the 15,000's in ranking, I believe. Feels kinda cool given there are 270,000 accounts.
Here is something I pondered earlier today. I noticed some gamers just seem to have deadly pin point accuracy. I chalk some of that up to skill but another plays a part in this I think. TV size. The larger your TV screen, the larger your targets are and the easier to pin point on them. If your TV is small (like the massive 20" incher I'm rocking my Wii on) all the targets are damn tiny and the tiniest motion of your hand moves the cursor way off target.
Anyone with 2 TV's of varying size with the game, could you try the game on both and verify if this indeeds plays a role in your accuracy? I'd like to write an editorial on it if the data comes back significant enough.

Yeah, it seems to go in waves with me. Last night, I was able to bring my win ratio back to .49, after it dipped to .46. It happened after an atrocious performance on the weekend(don't ask). It seems hard to find a good group of people to get in with, although some of the same names seem to crop up from time to time.

Hmm. Interesting to think that such a small problem like that could cause such a huge discrepancies in gameplay. It's definitely worth considering.

Haha, I didn't mean it was 3 on 4 but just the same 3 of us continued on from game to game. The 4th player was almost always someone else each round.
It was funny though because you could tell the other team was getting tired of losing and they'd all drop out before the next match began. Sometimes it would be just the best scoring person from the last round and he'd be stuck with 3 new guys.
CeNtral and Big Stick were the two guys that stayed in for all 12 rounds and who knows how long they were at it before I joined them and after I left.
And no that wasn't me sniping you. Until I get the last bolt action rifle, I'm not touching those things.
What name do you go by? Mine is pretty obvious. If you see a 'Viper' mowing down the enemy, chances are it's probably me.

We'll get MW2. I'm quite certain of it. The real question is whether or not Infinity Ward themselves will handle it or if Activision will outsource it to some other studio?
The reason I am certain of it is because you don't port the CoD4 engine to a new platform and then not use it when the opportunity arises. That's bad financial management.

Update- Great news! I just posted my first 20 kill streak yesterday. (21 kills to be exact). I was also able to get to the first level of prestige. I also bumped my kill ratio up to .68, after several days of stagnancy. My kill ratio is finally back up to .50, too, which is a relief.

Hey Viper;
It's been a while since I've posted, so I thought I'd update you on my progress. I haven't been playing online recently; because I've been trying to finish campaign mode on Veteran. I only just started to play again last night. It started off pretty rough, at least from a personal standpoint. I played nothing but team deathmatch, and while I got off to a rough start, I ended up okay, with me finishing at the top of my team's rankings. The same couldn't be said for my team though; although we started off okay, we had a bit of a rollercoaster ride, riding the highs and lows of the game. Eventually, we wound up with two or three straight losses(Can't remember how many). I still can't bring my win ratio past .51 (Currently at .50). My kill ratio has improved to .69. I'm starting to build up more consistent streaks, but I still have difficultly getting the seven kills necessary to get the dogs. (By the way, I've reached the first level of prestige. I'd like to tell you what it is, but I won't spoil the surprise). :)
