Saw Clint Eastwood's last acting performance Friday in Gran Torino. What an amazing film. It deals with so many issues in a way that is exceedingly frank and honest. It makes Hollywood fare seem like a bunch of psychobabble nonsense. Excellent film with a beautiful message of redemption.

I still need to see this, I've heard nothing but amazing things about it.

I don't watch a lot of movies, it's been over a year since I was at a movie theater, but this looks really good.

I thought it was entertaining and Clint Eastwood was great, but every other actor in the film was so shitty that I can't call it an amazing film.

This. Some of the other actors were good, including the Priest, but the Asians in the film, especially Thao, were not very good at all.

they probably never did a film before.
I think Clint and went for the nubcake actors.

Sometimes nubcake actors can work out well. Very well. Especially if they do a stellar job with their first big role. Unfortunately this wasn't the case for Clint Eastwood's cast.

I thought the priest was horrible as well. I literally think that everyone in that movie other than Clint Eastwood was absolute garbage.

I think this is accentuated by the fact that I watched Gran Torino right after I watched The Wrestler, which had the best acting I've seen all year.

I think clint did it on purpose... so he can get all the goodies.
haha smart move I say.

I have yet to see The Wrestler, but I heard it's great.

I watched this a couple of weeks ago. It's a really good movie. I recommend everyone seeing it once. Clint is just a grumpy ass, racist old man who takes the neighbor kid under his wing. There is a car involved, but not too much, you see it a handful of times.

The Wrestler was good too.
That was a good movie.

Here is where I watched both of these. They are DVD screening rips, so good copies. I also recommend checking out the new Daniel Craig movie, "Defiance" It was good too.

Haha, my friends and I think the only reason he made the movie was so that he could act like a grumpy old man/hardcore badass one more time before he hangs 'em up for good. Definitely a memorable film, though, that I'll probably watch again at some point.

Well I think a lot of the "bad acting" on the Hmong characters' part is that they sort of have weird traits to begin with, y'know? They smile a little bit when they're nervous, and rarely make eye contact, & so on. 'Cause we all know Clint's an amazing director and knows how to get performances out of people, but he also does like to keep a steady pace when shooting so I can see him not being too worried about that.

Anyhoo, the movie was great. I loved the music too, the "Gran Torino" song was stuck in my head for a long time afterwards, and I downloaded it :-D

One of the next ones on my list to see is The Wrestler for sure, and Defiance. Revolutionary Road was very good.

This and Defiance are the films I am waiting to see.

I liked Gran Torino. I don't think it's a revolutionary film, but it deals with some very strong themes like redemption, American identity, and family. Eastwood is very strong. The Hmong actors are a mixed lot, maybe, but the girl who plays Sue, I thought, was very good. I also liked John Carroll Lynch's bit as the barber. It's not Eastwood's best work because it never really went the extra mile and went beyond the typical conventions, but it's more than passable two hours at a theater.

What ruined it for me was that it seemed like Clint had to lead everyone on their lines. I expected better.
