It's sad to see the 2nd Electronics store in America close down. 35,00 people will be out of jobs.

I don't know if this needs to go here, because it affects video games, movie sales, and other electronic stuff.

Always hated CC, receipts way to wide and big.

I know silly reason to hate a store, but hey they never fit in my wallet.

wow. sad news. they say it's the second electronics store to close down, what's the first one?

PS. I am surprise CC has more stores in Canada than in the US.

I only see that it says it's the second largest electronics retailer in the nation not that it's the second to close down, unless I'm missing something.

Z

yes, it says the latest and not the second. sorry.

I haven't stepped foot in Circuit City since a Best Buy opened in my area. CC was so dark, dingy, cramped, and I HATE the fact that the associates worked on comission, they were on you like white on rice the second you walked into the store. I can't say I'm sad to see it go other than that I feel bad for the everyday-joe employee. That being said...Circuit City here I come for a new LCD TV!

Best Buy is #1.

I don't car to see C.C. go. Sad to see people out of a job but hey, shit happens.

Circuit City has better prices on everything, just goes to show that the world is populated with dumbfuck retard butt nuggets.

Krad

^ That is the most absurd lie I have ever heard in my life.

I agree with "the world is populated with dumbfuck retard butt nuggets" though.

Why are you not sad to see them go? Last I checked we all benefited from competition. I wonder how best buy will operate now with one of it's biggest competitor gone.

Krad

I worked for C.C. for a couple of months and disappointment. I rather not have a company that cross sells like crazy. They just suck.

Everything I can buy at C.C. I can buy cheaper elsewhere.

Garfunkel
01-17-2009, 10:52 AM
That might be so, but they do keep best buy on their feet do they not?

Monopolies are bad business, hasn't anyone learnt anything from national telcos?

Businesses don't need competition to be on their feet. A good business is always on their feet. But I know what you're talking about. Sometimes good businesses get lazy after they're #1, ie Intel for 5 years.

The businesses that weren't on their feet will being going into Chap. 11 / 7

Garfunkel

Then again, although intel was being lazy with AMD kicking them in the ass, now the AMD has kind of died a little intel is actually doing some really cool things and making some very nice architectures.

Krad
01-18-2009, 08:25 AM
Yea, that was one of the biggest turn aroundS in my history.

AMD came out of "no-where" then Intel stopped playing around and is back on top. AMD has to think of something new. Intel's i7s are beasts.

Garfunkel
01-18-2009, 09:49 AM
the i7s are great (if you have the cash).

Krad
01-18-2009, 10:07 AM
Yea.

I love the way they're pushing new architectures. We do pay the price for it but hey, we all know the price of early adoption.

Garfunkel
01-18-2009, 10:31 AM
And we all know not to accept the first generation in a new architecture ;).

for those who are interested to know, right now it's 10% off everything at Circuit City along with I believe 20-30% off of DVD and CDs and 40% off of electronic equipment such as surge protectors. I was told that the video game portion may not apply to the 10% off everything though.

If I had the money I would love to buy C.C. out of Chap 11

Although I don't like them, at all. Selling the majority of their retail space and setting up a mostly online presence would be task #1.

Actually, now that I think of it. Maybe not...

So I went to CC today and right now its total bullshit at the moment. Dunno if its all stores or just my area but nothing much but 10% deals and like 30% off CDs, DVDs, and Blu-Rays. I figured the real sales will kick in close to final closure...if anything is left

Most ridiculous liquidation sale I have ever seen. Here locally prices were marked up prior to the liquidation and current sales were discontinued for the liquidation.

They have crazy mark ups. It is really ridiculous. Me and Angela went to browse around and almost everything was marked up. 500GB external hard drives for 130$ (usb WD) that we both had bought previously from best buy for 99$. TV's were all way marked up. 2GB microSD cards where 18$ when i just bought a 4GB for 7$ from newegg. The routers were all marked up too with most of them being in the 99$ region.

They did have a lot of people in there buying stuff so i guess it worked for them in some respect.

Human beings are such vultures... I can't ever remember seeing more than 10 people in Circuit City, and today I drop by and I can't even move once I get inside.

At least no one was trampled to death.

Ours closed almost a year ago. I actually got an awesome deal on a LCD monitor. I did take a risk, since they were only selling display units, but it has worked great ever since!

And I think when compared to Best Buy, Circuit City kicks them in the nuts. Prices tend to be equivalent, but the one here seemed to know their stuff about products. They also had like 8 computers networked together at the front to play Unreal, Counter-strike, whatever... Also, overall, Firedog is suppose to destroy Geek Squad. Firedog requires it's technicians to be certified, while Geek Squad does not (from what I hear). The only really bad thing about ours was the terrible location. Most people HAD to go past Best Buy to get to it.

With Geek Squad you do need to have A+ certification.

The C.C. around my area is closing in March.

They sucked anyway.

i like my circuit city. They use to take shit back from me and i get a full refund. I bought my 5.1 Home theater system from there too.

Sad. Circuit City was tough to find the deals, but occasionally, you could score some really good ones, and I enjoyed the store.

Never trust computer technicians.

Never, as in never ever?

Krad
01-22-2009, 02:32 PM
The majority of techs are retards.

I say, if the tech can't tell you exactly what he's doing in laymen's terms, then he's garbage. Whenever I service a computer, I let the customer know what I'm doing and what I'm going to do. I break down the computer into a household. And explain what parts are by relating them to a typical family.

Garfunkel
01-23-2009, 07:24 AM
99 percent of computer techs don't have a clue what they are doing and will tell you a sound problem is related to the video card.

My favorite is: we have to reformat.

Garfunkel

My favorite is: we have to reformat.

Yep, "you have a virus, the only way to fix it is to reformat".

It would be funny if it was a virus that infected an onboard device and not the HDD. The tech would be like "No! my glorious plan has been foiled!"

Maybe they will do so well they can have a going out of business sale every year like a particular furniture store I know back home.
