Here's the deal.
1987 honda civic that runs on a carb not fuel injected.
The idle is high and I need to bring it down so that I can have it emissions tested.
I know that in order to lower the curb idle there is a screw that must be adjusted. This screw sits just outside and under the air filter housing. I can't reach that screw without removing the housing.
How do I remove the entire air filter housing?

Typically there isn't much holding it there, but the Japanese like to be tricky.
Have you tried looking? Like.. with a flashlight.. everywhere? I mean, without a manual to your particular car, it'd be pretty tough for me to just Sherpa Guide this shit. Unless someone has your exact car and has had to do this exact thing, I'm not sure how much we'll be able to help ya, bro.
But it seriously shouldn't be more than a few screws or something holding it in place.

Honestly, I would post this question in a Civic forum. That way you can get real good answers. Not trying to take away from Bryan's answer, its just that this is like a gamer forum lol.

The chainsaw would probably work pretty well.
Bryan is right, the japanese are tricky, most american cars from that year just have a wing nut holding the air filter housing on. So I suppose it's more difficult than that if you have to ask. I might even head up to autozone or advanced auto parts and pick up a mechanics guide. That'll tell you what to do, and even how to adjust your idle.

Well thanks for the help anyways. There is a wingnut and clamps that hold the cover to the air filter housing. That's easy enough to take off for filter replacement. But I need to take off the whole damn housing. I know this is a gaming-related forum but I like to think that the members here do other things besides gaming and might be able to give me some general advice. I'll figure it out eventually.

Yeah, I've taken those out, it's being held by something else. I'll figure it out tomorrow when I actually have time to give it a good go.

Before you take the emissions test - make sure to get your engine as hot as possible...even drive it around for a couple hours and open it up (smash down the gas and get your car going nice and fast). I'm actually not kidding. I used to own a 1989 Honda CRX that had 253K miles on it and it started burning oil, but, I drove it around for a couple hours, opened that rice burner up, and passed the emissions test with flying colors! lol

Mexican beer > German Beer > American Beer = Canadian Beer > Slovakian Beer > Australian Peach Schnapps

Canadian beer is better than American beer. Noticeably. And fuck the Germans and Mexicans, and their springs they make for American car companies. German beer is over-engineered, and reminds me of a weird Nazi experiment. Mexican beer is a lot like drinking mule piss with a bit of lime.
The best beers in the world come out of the UK.. unless you're uncultured.
And I'm not even talking alcohol content.

You were wrong, sir. They're all very hopeless when it comes to any real life activities.

Drinking Messican beer makes you 78% more likely to contract genital harpies.
Mexican beer is worse then American beer. The best beer comes from the UK.

bryan you know how much i love my beer from the isles, but can you honestly deny negra modelo?

Higher alcohol =/= better beer.
And everyone who always complains about Mexican beer tasting pissy... I am convinced that you have no idea what you are talking about.
^And Negro Modelo for the win.
Dos XX and Tecate beat any American beer, with the exception of a few of the Sam Adams.
Also, sorry for the hijack, didn't mean to turn this into a "OMFG mai cuntryz beer iz better thasn urz!"

before you fuck your carb up do you know why you idle is high? did you check your ignition timing? do you have a vacumb leak? is your TB closing proprtly? do you have a air leak at the TB throttle plate bushing? don't just ajust away the symtom find the sorce of the malfuntion.
