So when I get back from basic and my AIT training or w/e I will have a few days 15-30 days I think before I actually deploy to my first mission/task in the army.

When I come back Im going on a "things I dont need but want" shopping spree. First off it is probably hard for you guys to believe but my entertainment system is all Sony other than the 360. So my question to you guys is where can I get good prices on BD in retail and online..also you all should turn this into like a coupons/deals section for PS3..I think I will start one on the Xbox forum also.Like what are really really good deals on BDs? Im not sure how they are priced anymore cuz I dont pay to much attention.

Anyways, specifically this is what I know for sure 100% Im buying:
whatever PS3 is $400(350, 300) (or the $500(450,400) one if it has decent games, which it seems to me their packins have been pretty damn good so far so yeah prolly the $500 one...
Ghostbusters 1&2 on BD
Killzone 2
MGS4
HDMI cable (can I get any HDMI cable or is their a specific kind I need for it to work?)

frosty and I were talking about this whole game sharing thing on AIM..how does that actually work?

Also how good does Hulu work on PS3? Just the same as computer?

As I understand it PS1 games do work..do they all work? Do they upscale at all? On top of that...FFVII on PSN..how is it different? Also how do these Trophies work? I don't quite understand how the system works...

Also I have heard it works with WMC, in what way does it work? I don't know exactly what that means honestly and none of my friends do it with their PS3.

Don't be an arse about it. Either answer one of the questions or don't bother posting, we don't need the same situation as the last thread.

Doesn't really matter which HDMI cable you get, just make sure that it's HDMI 3.0

frosty and I were talking about this whole game sharing thing on AIM..how does that actually work?

Basically, you can log into somebody else's account, and download stuff they've bought from the store. You can share your account on up to four other PS3's. A person can get those four back if the other people deactivate the account after using it, so you don't have to worry too much about losing all of your chances, then being screwed if you ever need to get another PS3.

Also how good does Hulu work on PS3? Just the same as computer?

Can't even use Hulu in this country, so I wouldn't have the foggiest...

All PS1 games work (well, pretty much every single one, I think the only ones that wouldn't would be really odd ones that you probably wouldn't even have heard of...)

Can't really remember if they upscale or not. The PS1 games on PSN are no different to the disc-based game, other than being on the hard drive, of course.

Trophies work in exactly the same way as achievements, the only difference being that you don't have a gamerscore, you get a level, and the number of trophies you've unlocked.

Also I have heard it works with WMC, in what way does it work? I don't know exactly what that means honestly and none of my friends do it with their PS3.

I'm guessing you're talking about Windows Media Center. Dunno if that works, but there's a program you can get called TVersity, which does exactly the same thing.

Hulu works pretty well, almost as good as on a PC just that it's not quite as good with the fast forwarding and stuff. PS3's are good to have even if you play mostly 360 games, then at times like now when nothing new is coming out you have a ton of good games on ps3 to go and get that are going to be cheaper to buy now. I just started Ninja Gaiden Sigma and having a lot of fun with it and it's got a lot of stuff not in Black.

XBox has crossed over!! lol...

Don't get an expensive HDMI cable from like Best buy or something, I got mine from New Egg for like $10 or $15 or something--quality too.

Find someone to share games with, or spend money on PSN, PSN is IMO the real reason to get PS3 besides a few standout titles.

You probably know the big games, and what's coming (Uncharted 2, God of War, Infamous Heavy Rain) so I'll just recommend some of the best games I've been playing.

Pixel Junk Monsters
Pixel Junk Eden
Little Big Planet
SF4
PS Eye--for voice chat and making crazy videos
If you like JRPG's get Valkryia Chronicles
Zuma
SF2HD remix
Super Stardust

Also the Japanese store already has some classics like FFVll MGS and RE, so we're all just waiting for them to come to U.S and EURO PSN stores.

Here is my thing about WMC, why the hell does the SonyStyle site say it does work with it?

Also these PS1 titles being re-released they are just the same like Xbox Originals on 360, no frills?

Another thing about the trophies things, like do you get a trophy per game or what..because I notice the PSN tags people here have there is what looks like a platinum trophy whats that about?

HAHA, it's like Pokemon... WE'RE GONNA GET 'EM ALL :D

PS1 games do work all, afaik (maybe some quirky ones don't, but I haven't encountered any) and they do upscaled... they don't render better natively though (i.e. the games do render at their original low resolution and get upscaled by the very good PS3 upscaler).

WMP11 as media server does work, but barely, as the WMP won't accept many media the PS3 can play etc... but there are MANY free alternatives, namely PS3 Media Server, which is available for all three major OSes... and did I mention... it is FREE!!! It's as always with MS, they only cater to themselves (not a jab against the 360, but as MS as a software company...). Why would they want to fix something that would potentially help their opponents.

HDMI cables... I bought the cheapest ones I could find (needed 2 for the time being) and they both work great and cost me less than 5€ each. Good thing is, if the cable works, the quality is always 100% (digital with error correction) not like with analogue cables, where the cable can easily eat away at your quality.

The rest is good... since you come from the 360, I'd gather you prefer shooters, so KZ2 is a given... MGS not, but that is also MY game of the decade... so no question there either.

Ghostbusters on BD... I dunno. Those are older movies... Good ones, but old. Which can mean (haven't read a review about them yet) that the quality won't be optimal... But there are BD releases of old movies which ROCK, like Blade Runner (the movie is as old as I am, but it aged much better than I did).

HDMI cable, monoprice.com They have the cheapest prices and the cables are the same quality you get elsewhere.

For media streaming load the CCCP codec pack and use TVersity, it will stream anything to the PS3, and its free. WMP11 works ok, but WMP has a huge lack of support for what formats it will stream.

Segeitz I challenge you to a trival pursuit based off of MGS1, MGS Twin Snakes, MGS VR Missions, MGS2, and MGS2:S how could it -not- be my game. I played MGS3 and came close to beating it..I didnt really care for it to much though. Its like the Episode 1 of MGS to me. For example though, remember back in the day when people started posting videos from the MGS2 demo that came with ZOE of Snake raping the guards? A friend and I started that shit. That is how I even got into the whole "gaming journalism" thing cuz back then I was retarded over PS2, and had a quaint little PS2 site. Hell back then, I even wrote an article about how Sony refused to send PS2s to Iraqi because they could be used as cheap bomb detonators if you used Linux with them, and it actually got published in a state newspaper (thanks to the help of my politican grandfather though).

Anyways, yeah I am getting those 2 simply because Im going to try and play the shit out of them before I ship off...also yeah the one thing I liked about PS3 is there are options on all OSes, being a Mac OS X user I either had to use hax or boot up Windows. I really like WMC Extender on 360..but its annoying they make you have Windows to use it proper.

edit; can anyone give me a reasonable explantion as to why Sony has that old power switch the PS2s had back in the day? Like why does it need 2 power buttons? I dunno maybe there is something I am totally missing..I never understoon why my old fat PS2 had one..do the slim PS2s have them too?

btw if you are wondering what newspaper it is, it is Columbia, South Carolina's 'The State" (the one with the palmetto tree on it) for those of you that live in SC and have old relatives that collect mass newspapers for no reason at all..I think it was published in 2000. I was like..hmm damn 13..that was along time ago. Im an old man :(

...Phrases like these that makes me think you are really not in the mindset of giving two shits about buying a PS3...You come here like you are some alien who never heard of Sony or PS3 and ask us all these noob questions who anyone with a vague idea about gaming would know and I dunno what you are doing but to me it doesn't feel like research for purchasing a PS3 (after all Google'ing would be quicker if you want product information).

ANYWHO to answer you; Like on a TV when you turn off by remote it's on Standby, when you push the button it's completely off.

So yeah....I'm sure THAT was really important to know ¬_¬

Once again, it doesn't make much sense to me I'm sorry. I'm sorry that no other systems do this, I just found it was a little odd. Now if the reason was say, because that is how it downloads stuff while the system is off, then I would take that. Also why Google when I have you guys to help me? I'm sure it gives at least one person here satisfaction in answering these questions. I know whenever someone ask me questions about something I know a lot about I'm more than happy to oblige.

Anyways, it is my understanding that the media card reading stuff is gone in newer models? So then do you save PS1 games on the hard drive or what? Also a friend of mine said something about his router giving him shit when playing stuff online, and apparently this happens with certain wireless routers and the PS3. Does anyone know anything about this?
