Presentation looks really good and I love how the objectives are projected on the environment. Very slick. Story looks as dull as always, but I never cared for that in this series.
PS. I can't believe I made a thread (http://forums.e-mpire.com/showthread.php?t=72919&highlight=splinter+cell+conviction) for this two years ago! and in the 360 section no less.

It looks like ninja-game-X with guns :S
I really enjoyed the concept in the first game, it was extremely, extremely Tom Clancy... everything was about darkness and patience and waiting and never, ever, ever being seen.
But since like a while now it's just been a like a confused little bunny...
It's like 'What is the equivalent of a gladiator in the 21st century?'
'He'd just headshot and pwn everyone.'
'Makes sense.'
This is the same as the GRAW series for me... Ghost Recon used to be the most hardcore ***t ever and then it turned into 'Plant and Watch Same Explosion 20x' game.
Ratt, this is where some of your complaints should come in. Talk about dumbing down games. Splinter Cell appears like it wants to be a stealth Uncharted, except it won't have a character name anyone will remember but Sam Fisher, and GRAW is just the plain wrong balance of arcade and a sheer lack of ideas.
If it wasn't for ArmAII we wouldn't have a true modern military sim anymore...
True that it may take some things away when trying to cater for the masses, but you can still play the game in stealth.
I played the first two games and they were the best stealth gameplay I ever played. I never felt so under pressure and worried of being spotted like that.

The first 2 games were just frustrating to no end to me personally. I abhor trial
and error gameplay.
Looking at the trailer, I thinkwe'll only have this 'rogue Fisher' for the tutorial since they capture him at the end if it. He will undoubtedly suit up from there.
Again, love the mission objectives being written on in the environment. Really sleek touch. Reminds me of Alone in the Dark's item menu. I love these things.

I thought the objective thing was just special cut for the trailer. It did look cool.
No, they said it's for the entire game.

Yeah, very nice 360 game. :)
They aren't my bag, it's the trial and error thing, and Sam doesn't float my boat like Solid Snake.
But a very nice exclusive. 360 gets this, PS3 gets Haze. Thanks for that.

That's one short end of the stick...
Edit - Btw I guess this is a bit cooler than I'm giving credit for before. It does seem like the new style is very inspired by the Bourne series and the Bourne films are no slouches of course. That type of action would be great in an action game.
I would personally prefer it would not emphasize quick action and shooting/headshot-ing so much (there are other ways such a special agent should be able to defeat sentries and enemies...).It's just because when you get to that type of thing when your character is so fast and powerful in a (Tom Clancy means realism right?) that it's less of like a human vs. human and more like just a superhuman kicking the ***t out of weak non-descript enemies.
It like appears more like simply an Assassin's Creed (never played it, not sure) with guns rather than a game trying to emulate what it seems like it should, which is a high-tech, 21st century spy adventure.
I'm sure this way it will still be a solid game as well. That's just my personal preference to have something more deliberate.

It seems like they mixed up elements of Assassins Creed, Uncharted and Rainbow Six Vegas. I just hope the new tag system they took from Rainbow six doesnt make the game easy. I would prefer to use the weapons myself otherwise it looks pretty good.

I think I'll start playing these games again when this one is released. The first one was great, I just never got into the rest. Sam looks younger though. I think he needs a scruffier appearance to really mate well with Ironside's voice... in my head at least.
Like I told my friend when he showed me the trailer: I want my damn goggles.

If you were holding out for Splinter Cell Conviction to eventually make its way to PS3, you’re out of luck. Ubi just said on its forums that it really is an MS exclusive thanks to a “link of heart” between the franchise and the platform.
“Splinter Cell Conviction is a true Microsoft exclusive title and there are no plans to have Splinter Cell Conviction on other platforms,” said the company.
“There are several reasons behind this choice. First of all, Splinter Cell games are historically linked with Microsoft platforms. The first Splinter Cell on the original Xbox was one of the first games to fully exploit the console’s technical possibilities. At that time, Microsoft really believed in the game potential and provided strong support to promote it. So, there is a “link of heart” between the franchise and the platform. Some games are like this (think of Final Fantasy for instance).
“The second reason behind this choice is purely linked to production. Having a single target platform means that we can optimize the game even further, because we only have one type of - console - hardware to support.”
It’s out at the end of this year. Assuming you’re not solely reliant on PS3, obviously.

Yeah I have always been a fan of Splinter Cell and it has some of the most innovative multiplayer out there so I can't wait to see what they do with Spies vs Mercenaries in this one, or if they can somehow make it even better.
So far Ubi is saying it is 100% exclusive to PC and 360. My guess is you might be able to play eachother cross platform, or at the very least the PC version will have the GfW branding on it. Splinter Cell has always been more of an Xbox franchise though, the first debuted as a timed exclusive for Xbox, and I think at least one other was timed exclusive. It has also surprisingly sold better on Xbox in the past, although a year or two down the road I wouldn't be surprised if it found its way onto PS3.
OG_Monkey
06-22-2009, 06:04 PM
Nah I think this is 100% exclusive like, Microsoft is behind it all the way. You got Gameinformer's Andy McNamara saying Microsoft literally would not allow any unveiling of this game until they thought it was ready. If a outside party has that much control over a 3rd party game its usually going to stay exclusive or some kind of deal is going on. It's like MS literally went to Ubi and said can you guys make a new SP game the way we want it and we'll fund and support it 100%.
XboxEvolved
06-22-2009, 08:09 PM
Are you sure they are funding it like that? If so that is pretty crazy. The way I read it was MS wanted their own "MGS4" and if any franchise can at least beat the gameplay of MGS, it would be Splinter Cell. Story though they might as well hire me to do it.
They've obviously given them some money for something, otherwise the game wouldn't be exclusive. Personally, I've prefered the Xbox versions of all the games up to this point. Graphically, the first three games were far superior on the Xbox, and they also changed certain things on the PS2 versions, like level layouts, and I never liked the changes that they made.
As for the fourth game, there was never a fourth game. This new one is the fourth game :P

Splinter Cell, Red Steel, Ghost Recon slip
Ubisoft has revealed that both Splinter Cell: Conviction and Red Steel 2 have been delayed until the first three calendar months of 2010.
The publisher's results for its financial first quarter - April to June - also said that the new Ghost Recon game and I Am Alive have slipped as well.
Those were both down for the fourth fiscal quarter (January to March 2010), but "will now strengthen the line-up for fiscal 2010-11" instead.
Splinter Cell: Conviction looked in rude health at E3, where it was a lynchpin of the Microsoft conference, and we're expecting to bring you our hands-on thoughts soon. Ubisoft was putting a brave face on it, pointing out that it still has Assassin's Creed 2, which is due out on 20th November.
The publisher's financial first-quarter sales were down 50 per cent, which Ubisoft king Yves Guillemot blamed on a "very sharp slowdown in our sales for Nintendo DS as well as sales of back-catalogue titles, in the context of a market that is tougher than anticipated".
Eurogamer (http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/splinter-cell-red-steel-ghost-recon-delayed)
I must say im disapointed but it makes sense business wise. This game would eat into Assassins Creed sales so why not release them months apart. I think Assassins Creed 2 will have mosnter sales because of this move.
I just can't help but thinking that all of these end of year releases are moving so that their sales aren't affected by Modern Warfare 2.

Modern Warfare can't be the culprit behind all these recent, and very suspicious, delays. I wonder what's up. Like you said AC!D, it's actually a WORSE time to release those games.
The only other thing I can think of is cost cutting.
Anyway, here's what Ubisoft have to say about Splinter Cell being pushed back
Splinter Cell Site Update On Game's Delay
Nothing that we didn't already know, but the Ubisoft Splinter Cell: Conviction site was just updated with a quick blurb regarding the title's delay to 2010.
"Splinter Cell Conviction is a very important game for us. We want to ensure it’s a game that long-term fans and gamers new to the series equally enjoy when they play it. Previous Splinter Cell games have set the bar very high when it comes to quality and enjoyment, we are firmly focused on continuing this with Conviction.
After demonstrating the new vision for the game at E3 2009 we won many awards and got a lot of interest from fans and press alike. In order to live up to our own ambitions and your expectations, we strongly feel that giving our teams that extra time will allow us to present a game to you that will fulfill that potential. Due to this, we have decided to move the release date into Q1 2010. This extra time will ensure Splinter Cell Conviction becomes every bit the fantastic experience we want it to be."

Ah well, the delay will be beneficial. Just dunno why they have to lie about it, has nothing to do with "polish" or anything for that matter. This game was truly ready to go for a 2009 release but that 50% drop freaked Ubisoft the hell out.
Also for the ones who think it may touch other platforms one day:
http://www.gamezine.co.uk/news/games/s/splinter-cell-conviction/splinter-cell-conviction-really-won-t-go-the-ps3-$1314766.htm
Following Ubisoft's announcement that Splinter Cell Conviction would be pushed into a 2010 release, some websites, including MSXbox-World, believe that it might be a sign that the game will be releasing for multiple platforms.
The most obvious point to correct them on is the fact that Splinter Cell Conviction is a multi-platform game; it's releasing for the Xbox 360 and PCs.
Although it's certainly true that many publishers are beginning to release their games on both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, Ubisoft has been head-strong with the fact that Conviction would remain an Xbox 360 console exclusive. Ubisoft's forum manger recently explained the reason for the exclusivity:
"Splinter Cell conviction is a true Microsoft exclusive title and there are no plans to have Splinter Cell Conviction on other platforms. There are several reasons behind this choice. First of all, Splinter Cell games are historically linked with Microsoft platforms. The first Splinter Cell on the original Xbox was one of the first games to fully exploit the console’s technical possibilities."
"At that time, Microsoft really believed in the game potential and provided strong support to promote it. So, there is a 'link of heart' between the franchise and the platform. Some games are like this (think of Final Fantasy for instance).
"The second reason behind this choice is purely linked to production. Having a single target platform means that we can optimize the game even further, because we only have one type of - console - hardware to support."
Still, maybe Ubisoft has changed their mind following their announced poor sales results? Comments from Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot in an interview with Joystiq after the delay was announced, make it very clear that the publisher's relationship with Microsoft is very important to them and that they'd be unlikely to jeopardise it:
"We still have the full support of Microsoft, because they know that if we can bring a very high-quality game this will help their machine. So we still have the full support from them," Guillemot explained.
We'd suggest that it's time to put this rumour to rest and instead look forward to Splinter Cell Conviction on the Xbox 360 and PC only.
It's a real shame if it does remain completely Microsoft exclusive, since every other game in the series has been ported elsewhere.
Pro A.

And quite badly, I might add. Chaos Theory and Double Agent were absolute garbage on the GCN and Wii, respectively. The series has always done best on Microsoft and the PC so let the series stay there. Besides, we could use more exclusives on all systems. Helps give them an identity.

I never played those ports, I had the first three games on the PS2 (though I first had the first game on the Xbox). They didn't look as great, due to the Xbox's superior lighting, and some of the levels were slightly different
But still, it's a shame that people who may have played it on other systems will be missing out. But then, they can go out and buy a 360 I guess, that's the whole point of this exclusivity stuff, right?

You know how many 3rd party developers kissed Sony's ass before breaking the exclusive stuff?
A lot.
So don't take their "oh but we love MS" as a confirmation that it will stick as exclusive.
^^And from my experience, Double Agent on PC was a horrible port. Unless of course Sam Fisher's head WAS supposed to turn into polygons randomly and the environment was meant to disappear and appear.

Well this is Ubisoft. To my knowledge, anything they said will be exclusive usually stays and stayed that way. Look at Haze, I'm sure they knew quite well it wouldnt make alot on the PS3 alone. Naruto games, 360 exclusive even though the fanbase are more likely on the playstation and nintendo platforms. Red Steel, could be coming to the PS3 now with the motion controller but doubt it will. Hell Assassins Creed 2, exclusive content only on the ps3 and it'll likely stay that way.
Unless I'm wrong, ubi doesnt have a track record of saying something is exclusive indefinitely then a few months later ports it to another platform so they can't be tied the same as other "3rd party developers". And in regards to the Splinter Cell series, exclusive has never been used when announcing the games until now. If anyone can show me a game that Ubi said was exclusive then backtracked on then I'll be corrected.
Lukewarm Reception Held Back Splinter Cell Conviction In 2007
Ubisoft wasn't worried about delays that year because Assassin's Creed would 'bring in the money.'
It's been three years since the last Splinter Cell, but it wasn't originally meant to be that way. Conviction was originally supposed to launch in 2007, but a lukewarm reception at Ubidays made them reconsider the release date.
"Actually we felt that the game wasn't well received [at Ubidays] and some of the critics were actually saying that we were missing the gameplay, when we started having maybe a bit of trouble bringing back the core gameplay, and we saw the success that [Assassin's Creed] was going to have, Ubisoft made the decision to say, 'Look guys, take the time you need to do this game, we've got someone bringing in the money for the next year so we're okay, we won't ship a game that's not good, so go ahead and take the time to do it," production manager Andréane Meunier told Eurogamer.
"That took the pressure off us and allowed us to rework the core values that we wanted to bring out."
Conviction suffered numerous delays, with no news on development appearing until shortly before E3 2009. It was there that we had the chance to try the new demo, which seems to have "serious potential."
Unfortunately, we'll have to wait a little longer to see whether Conviction lives up to that potential, as it was recently delayed into 2010. After so many delays, it'll be interesting to see whether it was worth it.

Yea, that does seem a little odd. As well as it being released in a period when people don't have much money, it's going up against a lot of other potentially big games.

Well for me, back in the day I was a minority being an Xbox fan and running Xbox Evolved, and Splinter Cell was incredibly exciting to me. The majority of people that have bought a Splinter Cell title have bought the Xbox version and the xbox version always had a lot of advantages that just weren't possible on the other platform. That and it is linked to the console like they said. I also don't buy their polish excuse, although that is a secondary side effect to delaying the game. I'm pretty certain it was being scared shitless of other big titles in a recession during Christmas.
The problem now is that it's up against even more big titles in a recession during the period after Christmas, which is usually pretty bad for retail sales across the board.

Here's a few gameplay vids from Machinima. The first three videos tackle the section using stealth, while the other three are a little more gung-ho.

lolol 'classic' 1-button-does-all splinter cell gameplay.
now they even added 'target and auto kill'....
it looks like it'll be satisfying no doubt, depending how many variety of things that one button does but that was the main reason i left the series so i dunno.

I think you're exaggerating slightly with the "one button does everything" stuff, at least from the previous games. Sure, there were a few buttons had a number of specific actions, but that's kinda the idea when you're using a control pad. You need to press buttons, what the hell would you be doing otherwise?
Anyway, despite this game giving you even control than the previous games, I still like the look of it. While you don't have to put in a lot of effort to actually pull off moves, I still get the sense that you can't just run in like a crazy bastard and expect to get away with it. Not that much, anyway.
This is one of the few 360 games from next year that I'm looking forward to. I was a little apprehensive when I first saw it, but I'm a bit more confident that I'll enjoy it now.

Don't take that tone missy! :girl3:
I don't know if it was bad game design later in the series or what, loved the first 2 SC games but 3rd one? (i think...the one where you start in a snowy area).
i played for a bit and i was like "omg all i'm doing is going upto someone/ something and pressing X".
there was even a context dependant list where you again just held X and picked something from the list.
of course games are pushing buttons but in this game you 95% of the time just pushed 'X' (PS2)...i dunno i guess i would have liked more actions to do in more varied ways and maybe it was just the series itself was getting stale to me by that point.
anyway no doubt this'll be one of the 360 titles i play as my brother is getting it, so i'll look to enjoy it or not enjoy it then.
it's been a while since a SC game and this has a very cool Bourne vibe to it, so yeah, should be good enjoyment/ satisfaction/ immersion wise. i was just voicing concern on the gameplay front.

I don't remember specific stuff to do with the first few games, but the PS2 versions of those games were a bit crappy. They took out quite a few sections from the Xbox versions, didn't look that great either, and generally played around with stuff which made them suck in comparison.
I personally like the slightly simpler approach that they took with the games. I thought that the control scheme for the MGS games was overly complicated. Let's take MGS4 as a quick example. To use the first-person mode, aim and fire, you had to be holding three buttons down, which was just stupid. Anyway, I don't want to turn this into a MGS vs. Splinter Cell argument, that's what the original thread ended up like.
I've always been a sucker for the Splinter Cell games, so I probably would've got this game no matter what they did to it. Oh and BTW, the third game is the best one by a mile, so you should go back and play it, NAAOO!

i 100% agree and i would hate it to be mgs vs sc thread but a quick note on why that was complicated in mgs4 is so it didnt become a FPS. hideo, no matter what mechanic he added, always made the stealth option easiest to play so that was his way of keeping it stealthy, not the best way i'm sure but i liked the approach.
Oh and BTW, the third game is the best one by a mile, so you should go back and play it, NAAOO!
I can't remember if it was the 3rd one though.....so the one starting in snowy area is the 3rd one?
what's it's subtitle? (i know i can wiki but im tired and playing ps3 on the side).
i might 'acquire it' on Pc if it's a good port.
The third one was Chaos Theory. If I remember correctly, the snow level you're talking about was from Double Agent, where you're working together with somebody else in Iceland, I think.
I didn't really like Double Agent that much. But I would definitely recommend trying out Chaos Theory.

nah i remember playing that.
watched a trailer, definitely remember the lighthouse level distinctly and slicing open japanese like doors and pulling people in. i cant remember how far i got in though but i think i've played it a lot....i remember getting bored around a icy area....i dunno which SC game it was. i'm 100% confused now.
next one was double agent which i've rented and i remember going around the bad guy's HQ collecting stuff and being evaluated after each mission to see which side you did more good for...which i didn't like much but can't remember how far i've got in.
so the chaos theory was the one you said was the best? i think i'll get it and refresh my memory then.
EDIT:
got Chaos Theory..and this didnt start in the snow....it started in a lighthouse and this was the SC game that i've played a lot and yeah cbf playing it again tbh.
I dont know what to make of this game to be honest. I am a big Splinter Cell fan and own all the games in the series and i must be one of the only ppl who did like double agent.
When i watch these gameplay videos i see scan, tag and movement fluidity. In other words you scan your environment, tag your enemies for auto shoot ala Rainbow Six, set up your first kill which you orchestrate manually which starts the auto firing sequence and then move on.
I love the new animation and movement system but what im not sure about is the tagging. In Rainbow six you tag 2 guys in a room with a camera before you enter for your team mates and take out the others manually. In Splinter Cell it seems like you take out the first guy and the rest is scripted. Now wouldnt it be better to only clear a couple of rooms like where there are hostages and give you the old manual freedom to take out enemies in a room in whatever way you see fit?
Also is there even a stealth option or do you have to take them out?
Pro A.

Chaos Theory is far and away the best game in the series. The single-player fixed the issues from the first two games and allowed a little more freedom in your approach. Stealth and action are both feasible (most of the time; there are plausible exceptions) and the story is also first-rate, picking up on the information warfare theme from the first game and ratcheting it up a notch or two. The co-op is extremely well done and so is the online multiplayer. There is so much depth and so much versatility to this game that I picked Chaos as my top game of 2005, which is something I stand by today.
I look forward to Conviction and it seems that, at least from the video, that the balance between stealth and action will be repeated.

The one part that irks me a little is that tagging part, because it takes a little away from the satisfaction you get from taking out a room of people yourself. From what I've seen, it looks like you still have to plan ahead a little, tagging people in an order that will actually work. I don't think you'd be able to just get away with doing it whatever way you want, and letting the computer do everything. I hope that's not the case anyway.
I'm sure there must be a way where you can go completely stealth, perhaps they just weren't being as stealthy as they could be in those videos, just to show off some of the action in the game? Again, I hope that a more stealthy option is there for us, because even though the various ways Sam takes people out looks pretty good, I would like to have the option of being a ghost.

I hope so too. For me passing a room without killing anyone using stealth is an achievement in itself and thats why i love the Hitman games where you can get the silent Assassin rating. I just hope its in SCC. All i have seen is action which looks fantastic and im glad they added it but the srealth and gadget options have always been my favourite part of the series.
Anyways still day one for me. Im busy playing Assassins Creed 2 now and if Ubisofts Montreals other game Splinter Cell Convivtion is half as amazing as AC2 is then ill be happy.

Splinter Cell will never be like Hitman in terms of stealth, Hitman has a lot more depth to the stealth aspect. In Hitman, you can be in full view a lot of the time, and nothing will happen. You've got things like disguises, being able to do things that will effect something else in another part of the level, etc. etc.
Splinter Cell is a lot more black and white with the stealth aspect, you're either out of sight and safe, or in sight and under attack. While it would be sort of nice to have a few Hitman-esque in Splinter Cell, I can understand why there isn't. Sam is always somewhere he really shouldn't be, so if anybody sees him, then he'll be under attack.
Agent 47 can get away with being in sight, because rather than being an agent like Fisher, he's an assassin, and his missions take place in locations that are generally open to the public. So it's not so unusual for him to be there.
I'm rambling on. Anyway, stealth please, Ubi!
Have you never completed the first four Splinter Cell games without raising an alert Matt? Hell i did it many times in many levels and i think in a couple of the games you got rewards unlocked for doing so if i remember correctly. Clearing levels were easy when you combined stealth take downs, rubber ring bullets and found those one or two well hidden vents or ledges to pass two or three enemies without raisng an alert. Stealth also had a huge part to play in Splinter Cell that is if you took my approach. Double Agent took this new stealth gameplay to a new level which is why i enjoyed it. You were sneaking within friendly walls while trying to gain trust and usually in time limits. If you rasied a single alert within those walls it was game over. Trying to get suspicion off of yourself and onto others was a brilliant mechanic. It made the game more tense and i loved that.

Yea, of course. I'm not saying that the stealth element isn't there in Splinter Cell, just that I think it has more depth in Hitman. In Splinter Cell, for the most part, getting through a level using stealth just involved hiding somewhere, or finding a shortcut that avoided a load of guards, or getting a guard to come near you, so you could take them down quietly.
As for Double Agent, I don't know exactly what it was, but I just couldn't get on with it.
Splinter Cell Conviction features co-op prologue campaign (http://www.thelostgamer.com/2009/12/09/splinter-cell-conviction-features-co-op-prologue-campaign/)
It has been revealed today that the much anticipated Splinter Cell Conviction title is set to include a co-op campaign portion, that will not only act as a prologue to the main storyline but also be of a sizeable length at around six hours.
Placing players in the roles of Daniel Sloane-Suarez (callsign Archer) and Mikhail Loskov (codename Kestrel), the pair will initially not get along at first. “They don’t really like each other or trust each other,” says Patrick Redding, Co-op Game Designer before continuing “but you’ll hear in their dialogue, moving through the missions, that their trust is slowly building.”
Archer and Kestrel’s storyline will begin two months before that of the single player campaign, and will detail how EMP’s have been liberated by rogue factions within Russian Intelligence and then sold on to members of the Russian Mafia. Due to such a fact, the co-op campaign will immediately begin within the heart of St. Petersburg in a mob den.
Redding explains “You are going into this really seedy, gritty underbelly where we can put the whole graphical horsepower of our engine and the Xbox 360 to work giving you the lurid texture of this place.”
The emphasis on such a co-op portion is based upon communication, tactics and looking out for each other. “If Sam Fisher is our panther, then these two guys are like a couple of Velociraptors taking down the herd,” states Redding.
SC: Conviction to include standalone challenge modes (http://www.thelostgamer.com/2009/12/09/sc-conviction-to-include-standalone-challenge-modes/)
Alongside its freshly unveiled six hour co-op campaign, Splinter Cell Conviction is also set to include a number of standalone challenge modes.
These will currently being referred to as Third Echelon Missions, and will be spread across a variety of six maps. These are based upon four levels seen within the co-operative campaign, and two that will be exclusive to the mode.
At the time of writing, four modes have currently been confirmed;
Hunter – Clear the map of enemies,
Infiltration – Clear the map of enemies, without being detected,
Last Stand – Protect an EMP warhead from waves of enemies,
Face Off – Two players go head-to-head, includes a number of customisable AI enemies spread throughout the map.
Now this is what you call a proper exclusive and not a half arsed HALO ODShorT or LEFT 4 DEAD 2 SOON game

As i understand it the game has a 6 hour co-op campaign. A 8 to 10 hour single player campaign. I also see that they have something similar to the Batman Arkham Asylum's stealth and infiltration missions which were freaking awesome in that game and could be in this game if done right.

Rumor: Splinter Cell Conviction demo coming in January
As you might imagine, it's kind of hard to believe the words coming out of someone's mouth when a gold wrestling championship belt is gleaming in our eyes, which is why we're not sure what to believe coming from the mysterious "Adam" regarding a possible Splinter Cell Conviction demo coming this January. Seen with the Hip-Hop Gamer in a video after the break, Adam -- a gentleman who Ubisoft wouldn't confirm to us is an actual employee -- seemingly announces the existence of an upcoming Conviction demo.
When asked by the eccentric interviewer about the possibility, Adam responds, "It's coming out in January, and then the actual game: February 23rd." We asked Ubisoft for verification of Adam's words, and were told by a rep, "I cannot confirm a demo at this time." So, anyone know Adam?

As the release date of Splinter Cell: Conviction is getting closer, we are going to see Ubisoft reveal more info on their upcoming stealth game. Anyway, here’s new co-op and multiplayer details for Splinter Cell: Conviction straight from OXM (Jan issue):
• Archer and Kestrel are the new Co-Op characters.
• Takes place about 2 months before Conviction.
• Roughly 6 hours.
• Cover similar to Gears of War.
• If you’re wounded, you can either play dead or use your pistol until your partner heals you or you bleed out.
• Deniable Ops (4 co-op Campain): Series of standalone challenges set within the same four stages from the co-op story mode, plus two additional maps:
• Hunter (Clear the map of Enemies, alone or with a partner).
• Infiltration (same concept, but detection by enemies automatically results in failure).
• Last Stand (Protect an EMP warhead from waves of attacking foes).
• Face Off (the sole adversarial mode, with two players going head-to-head with a costumizable number of A.I. Opponents populating the map).
• You earn points through out the SP and MP.
• Change your look online and the look of Sam Fisher.
• Upgrade Weapons / Gadgets / Appearance.
• 6 Maps (four for the story co-op and two only for Deniable Ops).

Splinter Cell: Conviction Collector's Edition revealed for the rest of the world
Paying more for a fancier version of Splinter Cell: Conviction is no longer an exclusively North American privilege. Ubisoft just announced a Collector's Edition of the stealth sequel for "all" European, Middle Eastern, Asian, and Pacific territories -- and it comes with different stuff than the North American version!
The rest of the world's Collector's Edition will include the usual steel-book case and soundtrack, and also the distinguished-looking Sam Fisher statue seen above, frozen forever in the act of almost stepping on his night vision goggles. The pack also includes in-game bonuses like an Infiltration Mode, a special "Shadow Armor" skin, and "early access" to the SC300, SR2 and MP5 weapons.

I havent reaid it anywhere or in any previews but do any of you know whether you can complete the co-op campaign in single player with an AI? because most of my friends either suck badly at stealth games or just dont like them at all.
I haven't seen anything about it either, but I'd imagine there's the option of having an AI partner. If that's the case, I hope that the AI partner will be good enough, because bad partner AI could easily mess up a game like this.

Hmm I actually can't remember co-op in Chaos Theory but I'm correct, you couldn't play co-op without an actual buddy offline or online.
I guess that defeats the purpose of having a co-op mode with AI so chances look slim unless they can do the jump-in-jump-out style of co-op like Gears did,.

Cooperative play will be just about the only multiplayer mode in Splinter Cell Conviction Ubisoft confirmed. Apparently this new game's stealth is designed more around A.I. than around human players.
The confirmation and reasoning were given on the latest Major Nelson podcast yesterday shortly after the co-op was revealed. There will be no equivalent to the old "Spies vs Mercs" mode.
According to co-op game director Patrick Redding, the stealth in Conviction is designed around the new core elements like "Mark and Execute" and "Last Known Position" that have been shown since E3 2009. These things are designed for players to fool and defeat A.I. opponents but not human opponents.
The closest thing to a versus mode in Conviction will be a branch-off of co-op called "Face Off" in which players will go against each other in environments filled with A.I. opponents. The rest of co-op is said to be somewhat similar to Army of Two but more focused on stealth.
Players hailed the "Spies versus Mercs" mode as innovative when unveiled in Splinter Cell Pandora Tomorrow. By the time it was continued in Chaos Theory it became the main reason for many to play the game. In Double Agent however, Ubisoft created a new, simplified version of that mode because of the high learning curve of the multiplayer in the previous two games, much to the dismay of many hardcore fans.
Splinter Cell Conviction is set to release on February 23rd for Xbox 360 and PC.
sucks that there will only be co-op mp. Not upset over spies vs mercs mode and I hated it in Double Agent

Ubisoft Delays Splinter Cell Conviction, RUSE
Ubisoft Montreal's stealth-action sequel Splinter Cell: Conviction and Eugen's strategy game R.U.S.E. have both been delayed, publisher Ubisoft revealed today.
Conviction's latest delay pushes the PC and Xbox 360 game to April 2010. Initially due in 2007, the oft-postponed title was most recently penciled in for a February 23 release.
As for R.U.S.E., the "one-of-a-kind" PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 strategy game is now expected to arrive sometime during Ubisoft's next fiscal year (April 1, 2010 through March 31, 2011) instead of its original 'by March 31, 2010' timeframe.

God damn it... I'll be dead before this game ever comes out.
Yea, it's starting to become Sam Fisher Forever at this point. At least it's still due this year.
Got enough games to play in February so its not so bad. Probably a good idea not to pit this one up against Bioshock 2 anyways since most ppl would opt for that instead.
I guess, but it sort of seems like they would be two different crowds. I always thought we were the freaks in the middle of that Venn diagram :D

That we are. Splinter Cell is more of a cult following, but it has a very fervent fan base, and that fan base is getting reeeeeal pissed. Gonna be forty months between Splinter Cell games. Think the longest gap before that was maybe eighteen. Chaos to Double Agent.
I just think that its nothing to do with the game and more to do with business sense.
First thing that might hamper the game would be ppl still playing Mass Effect 2 deep into February. Second thing is popular FPS games always seem to take sales away from most games and i dont expect the stealth genre including Metal Gear or Hitman to ever change that. Third thing is that April month is pretty naked with only Red Dead Redemption coming out and that game seems to be in trouble. So the best exposure for Splinter Cell is definately April.
I expect Bioshock 2 to hurt sales of WKC and Heavy Rain also on the PS3 side.

So they just gonna keep pussying out everything they are up against a big game? Sheesh
So they just gonna keep pussying out everything they are up against a big game? Sheesh
When they've spent this long working on the game, I'm not surprised that they want to make sure they're going to make as much of it back as possible.
So they just gonna keep pussying out everything they are up against a big game? Sheesh
No but they will pull out if a game ( Bioshock 2 ) that will probably sell more on their own console the 360 eats ups sales of a heavily invested exclusive game ( SP ) on their own console OG.

I'd pussy out...
Damn we're up against Halo and Modern Warfare 2? Let's push it back and just blame it on needing more development time
Damn we're releasing two weeks after BioShock 2 and almost a month after Mass Effect 2...we don't have enough confidence in our own Ubisoft Montreal and know it'll get crushed in the competition...let's back out and release later...April sounds good, no one likes cowboy games.
Pussy
Damn we put a lot of time into this game. And Microsoft has put a lot of money and marketing behind it. I think it would be smart to delay to where we can maximize profits. April sounds good.
Smart

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/sc-conviction-delayed-for-polish
Ubisoft has told Eurogamer that Splinter Cell: Conviction was delayed to add "a bit more polish", and not because Q1 2010 is unconventionally bursting with big-name releases.
"The game looks brilliant, but we want it to be awesome," a spokesperson added.
The move was made overnight, when Sam Fisher's latest romp went from a confirmed 26th February release into the murky waters of FY2010, which begins 1st April 2010.
Ubisoft could not tell Eurogamer how long said polishing will take.
Man, you'd think they'd have it so polished that you'd be able to see your own reflection by now.
Games finsihed. They are just using that as a obvious cover so that OG wont think they are pussies for not going up against Bioshock 2

Indeed, looks very good, looks like it has a lot going for it here. The first one was pretty sweet when it came out too, but the first three games I don't think have aged very well.
Splinter Cell Conviction 360 Bundle Announced
Bundle includes black, 250 GB Xbox 360, two controllers, and the game.
http://i742.photobucket.com/albums/xx63/KiwiSplodgeFace/scc360b.jpg
Last month, Ars Technica reported on two upcoming bundles for the Xbox 360: Final Fantasy XIII, and Splinter Cell Conviction. The FFXIII bundle was confirmed almost instantly, and today Ubisoft has officially announced the Splinter Cell bundle. Its specs match up with the prior rumors. The console is a black, 250 GB model, and includes the game with two black wireless controllers for $399.
The bundle is set to hit the same day as the game, on April 13. The 360 sales numbers tend to experience a slight bump on months that it's bundled with the release of an anticipated game. Between the release of Final Fantasy XIII this month and Splinter Cell in April, the console will likely show fairly strong numbers for the next few months of NPD data.

the co op is a prequel before the main story. So we should all play the co op before heading into the single player.
It better be a good story then cause im not wanting to waste my time playing hours of filler before i get to the good stuff with Sam.

http://www.thelostgamer.com/2010/03/15/splinter-cell-conviction-demo-to-release-this-thursday/
We brought you news over the weekend that a Splinter Cell: Conviction demo was set to be released, yet Maxime Beland, Creative Director for the title, was unable to provide any details or even a date – however today that news has surfaced.
A new Inside Xbox video on the US Xbox Live service has revealed that a demo for the highly anticipated Splinter Cell: Conviction title is due out on March 18th – this Thursday! That gives you just a couple of days to dust off your Night Vision Goggles and gear up to get a taster of what you’ll be able to experience from the full game.
In terms of the demo’s content Alex Parizeau, Producer for Splinter Cell: Conviction at Ubisoft Montreal, comments that the team have been careful to chose segments of the games’ storyline that provide enough of a teaser to the full game without revealing too much of its plot. Players will be able to engage in both Stealth portions, as well as those that are more action-orientated.
The demo will begin with the Bathroom interrogation scene, before transporting the player further into the game to see a later section of the single-player element of the title.
Splinter Cell: Conviction is set for release exclusively on Xbox 360 and PC on April 13th across North America, with European release on April 16th.
