Today, which is my birthday, my parents ask the same question they do every year on my birthday... of course that question is "What would you like?" Usually it is hard for me to decide what I would like. I prefer things that would take me a while to afford on my own, or perhaps a new stellar game. But every summer, nothing exciting comes out except for movies. Last year I just ended up getting clothes because I could not determine what to get.

This year was different. I have never been into GBA's at all. I just don't like going to SNES-esque games. Plus my brother AND my sister both owned one. Things started leaning towards the other side once I heard and saw the NES GBA SP. I thought the original SPs looked slick, and I would probably eventually purchase one once they were to drop in price. But this NES version looked great. I had fond memories back when I was a young 4 year old playing NES classics like Mario and Duckhunt. I loved them. I loved the NES as a whole. So I hear about this Gameboy and I love the looks, but it was suppose to come out after my birthday anyway, so I lost interest. My parents never liked giving me money, and I decided I did not really need it anyway.

Then I read on IGN's website that some stores were releasing them earlier than the original date, June 7. So I called my local EB Games and they had them in stock. I went and discussed it with my parents and later they came home with it. It is marvelous. Now let me stop telling stories and talk about the system itself.

There is nothing different capability wise between a regular GBA SP and an NES version. They just look different. When you open up the SP, the screen is on the top and the NES mock up is on the bottom. This is the best part of the SP. The NES covering on the top actually has the same texture to an NES controller, which you cannot tell by the pictures. The font of the 'B', 'A', 'Select', and 'Start' buttons are all the same too. And there is also the classic Nintendo logo on the top right above the B and A buttons. I do have one complaint about the buttons though. They are not like the original NES controller buttons. They are the same as the SPs buttons. This goes with the D-pad, select, and start buttons as well. That would have made the design more appealing to me.

On the back part of the screen there are some more designs too. The main color is more of a grayish platinum, than the NES gray. They have the Nintendo logo(with the oval around it) in the middle of the top. They also have a design along the side of the back impersonating the ventalation system on the regular NES, except with the actual NES dark gray. I am kinda against that design personally. It just looks kinda dumb I suppose. But some may like it.

Overall, I would give the design a 9 out of 10. It will remind anyone of the classic NES, and that is what its intent was.

I will post pics of it tomorrow hopefully.

So far...all have been credit worthy.
