Revolution's Controller Finally Surfaced?

If so, anticlimax time!

A certain Teddman claims to have seen the Revolution's controller. Why is this relevant you ask? We get stuff like this all the time, you say? Well, this time the source seems to be pretty reliable. This very man, also was the first one to notified the public about the existence of Jak X Racing, an FPS coming from Insomnia, and True Crime 2's setting being New York City.

Also, it would seem that a second source would confirm this. At first I didn't really believe it, but this is someone with whom I have semi-worked with at the last site I was with. He was and still is a freelancer, that also works for The Next Level.
I have tried contacting him, but can't promise that he'll reply, as he was just freelancing for us, and have only met him once in real life.

Anyway, Quote time:

That's because it looks just like a Wavebird, except that the GameCube face button scheme with the big A, small B, and X & Y kidney shaped buttons has been switched out for four small round buttons in a cross configuration, i.e. the traditional SNES/Playstation/Xbox setup. I believe the button color scheme used on the Revolution prototype is as follows: X (top) button = indigo, Y button = yellow, A button = green, B button = red.

Instead of the "Nintendo GameCube" logo in the across the center of the controller, it said "Nintendo Revolution," using the same GameCube font. The analog sticks were placed in the same locations as on a GameCube pad, as were the shoulder triggers. Keep in mind I only got a brief look at an image of the controller (5-10 seconds) and it was a top-down view so I couldn't see what was going on on the bottom side of the pad.

I was told that it'll evidently be wireless by default and no highly rumored special functions like gyroscopic technology or touchscreen pads were currently implemented or had even been hinted at by Nintendo. Also, "this is just a prototype, sometimes they change a lot before system launch, or sometimes, like in the case of the N64, the prototype was nearly the same as the final controller."

I realize this is pretty anticlimactic since the Revolution controller is being hyped as the super-secret linchpin of Nintendo's radically different next console, and here is it looking like a Wavebird with a different button configuration. Just remember, it's possible that Nintendo could still be holding back a lot of functions from the developers until later in order to preserve the shock & awe...

At least this should at least put to rest all those bogus rumors about prototypes people have seen at developers' offices with touchscreens, gyroscopes, hologram interaction, etc. As it stands, this is all developers have access to."
If true, it's probably just a prototype and things can and will change, but it still seems a bit odd, don't you think?

Well, hopefully, that second source will reply to the mail I've sent him. He might have gotten a clearer look, and might be able to tell us more. If he does, I'll post it in this thread, as soon as I get it.

link-to-future is learning.
If thats what the Revolution controller is gonna look like then I'm pretty darn happy to be honest. I had a feeling the controller wouldn't look like some alien designed, holographic helmet thingy(assuming that this is real). I believe it'll look like a regular controller with some added bonuses.

On the upside, that design would mean that they won't alienate themselves form third parties, by making a controller that's too unorthodox. They must have some special features up their sleeve waiting to be unveiled, but it does seem odd that they would even hide them from developers at the moment.

What he describes sounds awfully familar to this mock-up

these are so dumb. Why would nintendo keep it secret if there is nothing secret about it.

touchscreens are bogus. holograms are bogus. gyroscopic technology isnt "bogus." It is cheap(Wario Ware twisted is still the same price as most other GBA games), and if similar to the one in wario, it would work amazingly well with racing games and FPS games. Anyone who has played wario would most likely agree.

I've seen the controller too. It's a stick that you bite on and use your tounge to press the buttons on the tip inside your mouth. The you wrap your hands around the shaft looking part to controll the rub action. Below that are the gyro balls.

It's pretty sweet, really.

The second source has contacted me and says that he indeed confirms it, and that the pic resembles the controller that is currently being shipped with the dev kits. He also told me that there isn't anything special about the controller at the moment, but that that could very well change very fast.

I'd post his exact words, but as he replied in Dutch, it wouldn't really help you.
Meh, might as well, for the heck of it:

Quote:
De foto is fake, maar de controller die bij dev kits zit die nu shippen
trekt er heel veel op.
Nog niks speciaals aan op het moment maar dat kan snel veranderen he.
As I've said, this guy's very credible and is a respected member of the gaming press, he also has very good ties within the gaming industry, so I trust this guy. If people are thinking I'm the one that is attention whoring -> wrong.
If anything I'd want to avoid stuff like that, as it wouldn't get me anywhere, on the contrary. I'm just saying that this is the first rumor that I'm actually believing at the moment.

i dont care how "reliable" you claim they are. The only people that probably have ANY idea what the controller looks like are major 3rd and 2nd party companies (Nintendo, Capcom, EA, square enix, Retro possibly). And even then only higher executives probably have actually seen it and know a good deal about it.

These claims are pointless. I could walk around saying i have seen it. I work for capcom. I have mentioned Metroid Prime 2, Super Monkey Ball 2, and even Pikmin before anyone had any clue about them. Im telling the truth. Seriously!
^
see. its not that hard.

I think the only person i have ever actually believed was aires. Why? Because we saw his predictions right in our own eyes. No one else has done this.

And I'm not asking you to, either. Just stating my opinion here, not forcing it. But there's nothing wrong with saying why you believe a certain something to be true, eh?
You may very well be right, one of the problems here is, that we do not know under which circumstances (where?) they have seen it. That is major aspect that is currently underlining the credibility of the first source. I've sent another e-mail to the second one asking this, maybe he'll be able to answer this, as this is rather shady at the moment.

Aries had me fooled for a while too, and yes it was very frustrating to hear that the may 19th thing wasn't true. But there's little to no harm in believing this, as it's just a minor aspect of what Revolution is. As, most probably, if true, this wasn't the final design anyway. We can still have our precious gyroscopes, even if this proves to be true.

Ah yes, the one with the bulge. Yep, that one was very nice indeed. I really like the color scheme you chose. I'd like to see something like that available, but maybe with inverted colors (yellow on top, black), could be nice too.

Not real. The Rev has sockets already built in for GC controllers so why design a GC look alike when the GC controllers would do the same job?

This one is insulting to me because they didn't even try to do something unique with it.

Besides, Nintendo reported that after showing many devs the contoller, they were completely excited by its design. Had it simply been a remake of the GC controller, I doubt excitement would have been their reaction.

My BS meter is almost at full capacity.

Two very good points. Although rather illogical, one could say that the 4 GC ports are there to support peripherals such as the Bongo's, but that's rather farfetched. I'd say you're probably right though, when you remind me of that second thing. Nintendo DID say developers were impressed by its design, and the design he described wouldn't really get that much praise.

edit: The second guy just gave me a reply to my last mail, where I asked him where he saw the contrller. Although no one seems to believe it anymore, I will type out what he said.
It's pretty confusing though :/

He writes:
The reports online are from a friend of mine who works for Disney (eh?)
(I'm assuming he's referring to Teddman, so that means that in fact there's only one source to begin with >_<)
He ends the mail by saying that they were given to some selected third parties, and cannot say anything further.

So, meh, that makes it a ton less credible for me as well.
