Exclamation PSP on your TV!

Quote:
Sick of carrying around Sony's portable lump of plastic? Yearning for some hardcore PSP action in your home? Desperate to utterly defy the whole point of owning a handheld console in the first place? Well, hooray! Let's go take a look at Team Xtender's work-in-progress device that promises to let you play PSP games on your telly - with a real, live PS2 controller at that.

You can check out some renders of the currently untitled gadget over here if your interest's peaked - we're pretty sure that's not the final colour scheme for the gizmo though, largely because we suspect Team Xtender isn't intentionally planning to sear its customers' retinas into oblivion the moment they try and take one out of the box.

Although the gadget's still only in the design phase, some of its intended features do look quite swishy, if you like this sort of thing - not only can you set it to output a true 16:9 signal, it appears there's absolutely no soldering required.

Although in truth we're not wholly sure why you might want to de-portablize your PSP, we've come up with at least two reasons to hook Sony's handheld up to a television using Team Xtender's mighty attachment:

i) The PSP's curious nipple nub gets a well-earned rest
ii) You won't have to squint quite so much

Still, the success of Nintendo's Game Boy Player suggests that there's a market for this kind of thing - and, at the very least, it does mean you'll be able to play the really-quite-great PSP-only Lumines on a telly twice the size of your face.

This must be a replacement case of some description rather than a plug-in accessory - the only way you'd be able to get a TV output and access to the controls would be via the PCBs inside the unit. So unless the design is really clever, you'd lose the portability aspect.
Hummmm...

SS needs to post more.
Couldnt they just run a background program off the memorystick that outputs all video and control through the usb 2.0 port?

may be completely useless, yet this demonstrates PSP's flexibility. techies are really into PSP because it gives them all these possibilities.

Ummm... What about the games that AREN'T on the PS2? Besides, there's plenty of times that I'd rather play my PSP on a big screen and if I want, because it's portable, I can bring it were ever the hell I want when I'm done.

Having said that, if this isn't temporary and you can't use your PSP as a portable then it's the dumest thing that I've ever came across.

^no, it requires no soldering......

and also, take into consideration the video capabilites of the PSP...then this thing should look very useful to PSP owners.

Well most of the PSP games are already on the PS2. With the exception of a couple of titles. But other than that, they are just the samething with different names.

Um, actually I think you'll find that in the FUTURE there will be quite a lot of original titles released on the PSP.

That's only half the point that I'm trying to make anyway. I said that there are sometimes when I'd like to play MY psp on MY TV. So that in itself, is a good enough reason for me to hook it up to my TV.

Imaging taking your PSP to the next level... A larger screen and a comfortable PS2 Controller... Today is the day.

This new accessory will allow any PSP unit, to connect to a Plasma or LCD screen! We didn't stop there; you can even plug in a PS2 Controller. As usually, Team Xtender’s high quality product won’t disappoint and we will keep you all updated with this product’s news.

Not only does it increase the psp enjoyment for the average developer and gamer alike, but also the media fans out there as well. The unit is fully dock-able for easy use both at home and for portable use.

I totally forgot that we'll be able to watch UMD's on TV now as well. Not that I'd bother with UMD movies, but it's nice to know that I can.

Scrilla really likes the forums!
Or...why not watch your favorite video on TV that you have on the PSP?

Or....internet browse on TV? other than that, those are the best things you can do

how will the games look on the bigger screen?
i thought that they only looked better than PS2 games because the screen was smaller. if thats the case, you may aswell just play PS2.
i know graphics arent everything, but beautiful graphics is one of the strongest arguments that most PSP fans make.
wouldnt it just seem hypocritical if those fans support this device even though it could ruin the beauty that they so strongly defend?

that is the poer of PSP; console gaming on teh go. I would certainly want to play a console quality GTA on the go then the prehistoric 2D version.

another slight clarification; if the games have the exact name of their console equivilant, then yes, they are identicle. if there is a name change, then you know that there is a difference. it may be slight or big, but something will be there. there are of course titles that will have added features with no name change like the latest X-Men game on PSP (check its thread for more info).

examples: Burnout Revenge (PS2) and Burnout Legends (PSP)

myname_is_ben ...who?
It looks like it might be taking power from the PSP...how does that work out? I suppose you would already have it plugged in at home, so battery life doesn't matter.
But, if I have to replace the faceplate, I hope my PSP will still fit in my playgear pocket; it doesn't look like it, though.
I've seen recent PSP accessory prices lately; I hope this doesn't go past the $50 mark.

Not really, I have no need for a PSP however I'd love to play GTA: Liberty City Stories. I just cant get past spending 250 for only one game and I hate the idea of having to play on a tiny screen. If they ever do release a PSP "Player" I'd definetely buy it for that reason, but i'd never buy a PSP.

With this system, you still need to own a PSP so it's not a PSP Player a la the GameBoy Player.

I believe the PS3 may either have the function built in to do so or is working on a Player for it. The PS2 with dual models may be difficult to design for and I'm not sure it even has the proper input device for it either.
