How sony plans to counter the rev?
Take it for what it is... with a side of salt
Quote:
When is a revolution not a revolution? Perhaps when Sony have picked up your idea revolutionised it before you even reach the market. I say perhaps because at this moment, this story is completely unsubstantiated, though as a matter of interest it makes for interesting reading…
Flash games site Razoric.com claims to have been contacted by a Macromedia employee that claims to have insider information on how Sony plans to counter Nintendo’s upcoming Revolution console. Allegedly, Sony intend to release an Eye Toy compatible game controller with more than a striking resemblance to Nintendo’s revolutionary next gen controller.
While Sony are still sticking to their spring release date for the PS3, analysts Merrill Lynch are predicting that the machine will be nowhere near finished, and the estimate that the unit will cost Sony up to $900 to produce. It is therefore not too unbelievable to imagine Sony may be readying a low cost alternative to next gen rivals with their trusty PS2.
An installed user base of over 100 million and new way of playing games could just take the wind out of Nintendo’s sails. Sony performed a similar feat with the PS One, when they countered Nintendo’s line up of child friendly games with a slew of Disney outings on the cheaper, cuter unit. Time will tell if there plan will be foilled, either by people seeing through it, or more likely, by international patents.
