~paid vacation~ my MMO sandbox PS3 concept
honestly I look at this Crytech and I don’t think socom or halo...
I see this engine as an ultimate sandbox engine. hummm.... *starts to dream* what if you took that (crytech) engine and that island with its day/night cycles used that crowd simulation software to create some native animals and fish weather created randomly on this island you see little tiki villages hear and there all connected buy beautiful flower covered paths dirt roads and a few cobblestone roads lines with shops inns with a Caribbean arcutexture. but mostly a unspoiled nature long white sand beaches. with nature trails scaling the sides of the mountains we see in the demo ok so using this setting as a MMO called ~Paid Vacation~ its a complex goal oriented open ended game where you the player set the goals. how well the game concept is you are an employee of a investing firm that markets recreational equipment of all kinds. you job is to go to this island and test equipment like dirt bikes fishing boats spots equipment when your done testing the stuff you get to keep it. (this has huge in game advertising possibilities!) you start off the game delivered to the central town located in the main harbor of the main island. where you receive your keys to your room at the inn. in your room you find a map to some of the simulated vendors on the island. you start off with no gear and 1000usd your job for the company is to test equipment on the island that will lead you to making more cash so you can buy or trade more equipment to test and play with. you can also combine equipment to test. here ill try and give an example of a days play… you log on and off always at you room at the inn. as you log in you wake up and see your things that you have acquired. This particular player is new to the game so he has no positions only a little bit of money. this player is hungry you can tell buy his slow movements and grumbling sound. He makes his way out side and goes to a beach side café named Jim’s dock. There he interacts with a NPC waiter and orders breakfast. Rather than sit and wait the player notices a pinball machine on a same deck as the tables he gets up and plays a minigame of this pinball game (featuring a real product) as soon as he’s done *bling* he acquires $20 to his account for successfully testing the pin ball machine. As he sits to eat his food sim style two other real players walk in to get food as well. One says to the other “lets get a group to go fishing”(using voice chat) our player buts in “can I go too” they agree as bigger groups give higher pay. First they all get into a convertible car of a real make lets say a Audi convertible(once again advertising$$$) this was won buy one of the other players for competing and winning in a group rally race event on the island. As the other live player drives them to a nearby marina they talk and get to know each other. Once at the marina they enter a shop, and players purchase real fishing equipment from a bass pros store (once again advertising$$$) at this point the player discus if the want to walk/ride inland for fresh water or if they have enough money together to rent a Tahoe brand pontoon boat for the day (advertising $$$) they do so they rent the Tahoe boat. The three leave port with the new gear and motor along for a few mins until finding a lagoon to fish in now a mini fishing game issues. with all the players making money buy testing the equipment they have purchased. They return to port all with virtual fish stories to tell. Leaving the boat they all get another chunk of change for testing the boat. They all split off going there separate ways our player walks down the street and notices a a few shops so he checks them out. One is full of quads and dirt bikes (all real products$$$) but there all out of his price range right now he thinks to himself “I’ll have to remember this place” pulls out a virtual map and marks it down Right next door is a bike shop our player go inside and finds a Kona brand mountain bike he can buy. As he purchases the bike his Virtual map changes to show all kinds of bike trails and places of interest that are available now. Our player takes a trail into the lush jungle full of lemur monkeys and small lizards singing birds and whatnot climbing this trail he finds several places where he can see a spectacular view of the island and its shore complete with the village he was just in. In one of these view points on the trail there where some player controled ladies looking over a cliff using binoculars they earned in a bird watching mini game. sporting umbro clothing and Spaulding football. They invite him to a game just up the trail that needs one more player. Soon another player arrives on a Suzuki quad all muddy from head to toe and ask to join up. Our player earns money after getting of his Kona. And for the next hour plays a football game with other actual players. The sun starts to set and players separate all making money from the experience and testing of equipment. As our player leaves one of the girls invites him to meet down town at the pub and casino for some poker and black jack food and drink. He agrees rids home in the setting sun to shower the stink rays off his body. Of course you see him use AXE body wash and visits the local clothing store to shop for real name brand clothing. At the casino he plays mini poker games with other live players winning losing cash. Playing music real latest and greatest stuff on the jukebox. After a while he retires to bed cause tomorrow he’s going ultra light flying with the girls on a scavenger race. Than its off to play tennis with biff and randof. Witch will lead to a scub diving tresure hunt Ahh the life of ~paid vacation~ totally unscripted nonviolent gaming! ok fine throw in some paintball! new mission added thur online connection new development is finaced though ingame advertising=minmum monthly charge or totaly free the games biggest concept is to support an enviorment that will give players the chance to create there own minigames EX... "hey everyone meet at the marina and buy a jet ski where going to to a around the island race! $1000 entry fee" __________________ Tell me your thoughts… Damnit this tread better not get side tracked I better get some rep+ for originality too ![]()

Top-rated games involve violence. People will only purchase the game if you can spontaneously pick up the pinball machine, then hunk it over at the guy outside. Then drag his body down to the beach and start pummeling him. The top 10 games of all time involved some form of violence. Anyways what you described sounds like a suped-up Animal Crossing fit for a more mature audience, but I'm not sure if theres a mature audience that would want that. Maybe those Second Life folks, and in that case yes it could be successful.

I don't beleive a game should have violence to be good... neither do most people. Look here.
1) Super Mario Bros. (NES) - 40 Million 2) Tetris (Game Boy) - 33 Million 3) Super Mario Bros. 3 (NES) 18 Million 4) Super Mario World (SNES) - 17 Million 5) Super Mario Land (Game Boy) - 14 Million 6) Super Mario 64 (N64) - 11 Million 7) The Sims (PC) - 10 Million 8) Super Mario Bros. 2 (NES) - 10 Million 9) Grand Theft Auto: Vice City (PS2) - 8.5 Million 10) Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (PS1) - 8 Million 11) GoldenEye (N64) - 8 Million 12) Donkey Kong Country (SNES) - 8 Million 13) Super Mario Kart (SNES) - 8 Million 14) Pokemon Red/Blue (Game Boy) - 8 Million 15) Half-Life (PC) - 8 Million 16) Tomb Raider II (PS1) - 8 Million 17) Final Fantasy VII (PS1) - 7.8 Million 18) Myst (PC) - 7 Million 19) Gran Turismo 3 (PS2) - 7 Million 20) Dragon Warrior VII (PS1) - 6 Million 4 of the top 20 are violent... based on MY defininition of violent. *This list is pretty old so take it for what it's worth.

^I haven't read all of your post JaxmkII but I like your thinking! I'd certainly buy it!
I'm getting the feeling though that the sheer size of it may be hard to execute, or at least, may not be executed with the best intentions. But yeah, I totally understand what you're aiming for. |

Basically it sounds like RL on your TV. But I wouldn't mind that at all. I hope the next GTA can pull somthing like this off.

In all honesty, I think a lot of us will have had some sort of idea along these lines. Well, I know I have anyway.

When I saw that demo I thought MGS... and then I thought Jurassic Park. It's been a long time since a good JP game came out. I'm thinking back to the Genesis where they had the game in which you could be Grant or the Velociraptor. In this JP you could play as any dino on the island, starting small/hiding from the other dinos as a compy and moving up the food chain by eating things... Spore without the evolution. Katamari Damacy of the wild kingdom. Ha!
*shivers at satisfying sound of sniper rifle in the jungle, all nature sounds get quiet* |

Actually I heard an idea exactly along these lines a while back, but was actually in development.
I dont have the link right now but apparently this millionaire was starting an MMO-esque type of thing, though there were no real objectives to speak of. Was really just a virtual hang out spot where you could do anything. |
