CompUSA Screws Over Wannabe PS3 Adopters
Full article here at PSINext: clicky.
Apparently CompUSA will force gamers to buy at least a 40" Sony HDTV if they want to get a PS3. How ridiculous is that, and where will this gamer-ripoff trend end? I assume when people finally stop putting up with it, but who knows when that will be.

We all know that people will do it. Rich, spoiled twelve year olds will get them because they didn't get a preorder and they can't wait.

WTH is this all about. Funny as hell. If I don't get the PS3 by itself then I'll wait till its readily available. No big deal by then Heavenly Sword/Motorstorm will be out.

Yeah and to top it off if you ask a CompUSA employee any sort of technical question they will have no idea what the answer is because they're all morons.

Makes a great deal of sense from a business standpoint, turn a $499/$599 sale into a $3500 sale. Nice.
Well, nice for CompUSA. |

Just tell them to go outside and play hide & go fuck yourself. Works like a charm. Good thing I'm not camping outside of CompUSA.

Typical Comp USA. But still, they've only got a few consoles and a lot of interest, so they've got to come up with a way to ration these out. Most places go with a "first come, first served" policy, but Comp USA has decided to get cute with this.

Think about it. A person can bid $2000 on ebay or they can buy a 40" HDTV and get a PS3 for $2000 or so.
All CompUSA is doing giving people more for their money instead of less via an ebay auction. People have to stop taking this stuff so personally, we live in a Capitalistic society and unless you are willing ot fight for more socialistic values in our society you have nothing to be upset about. I'm all for the adoption of socialistic values, but I don't believe many of you would actually fight for it. Yet so many of you get pissed off when our capitalistic way of life works against you during a videogame consoles launch. There is no in-between you either embrace capitalism, or start lobbying for change. A company like CopmUSA has to appease the stockmarket and it's investors, and if force bundling the PS3 with a HDTV drives up profits then that is one way for CompUSA to make wall street happy. tat is how our society works and no amount of complaining is going to stop CompUSA or ebayers for that metter. |

You guys are reading this ALL WRONG:
"Reserve your PS3 on November 17th when you buy any Sony HDTV 40" or larger" That doesn't mean they are ONLY selling a PS3/HDTV bundle...........only that if you buy an HDTV between now and then you are guaranteed a PS3! |

In any case, if you reeaallly really really need a ps3, bad enough to spend another 2grand on a new t.v. (which I want someday!), then that's your judgement call. If I had to deal with that I'd just have to wait. I can't afford an hd tv until next year sometime. But supplies are limited and demand is high so those are the breaks.

Look closely at the wording here : click That is the actual ad. It is not saying "Buy an HDTV and we'll guarantee you a PS3!" It is saying "reserve your PS3 today WHEN you buy an HDTV"...it is contingent upon buying an HDTV. If this is not the case and you can stroll in (or call up ahead of time) and just order a PS3, it is CompUSA's fault for making a misleading advertisement. I can guarantee you it is structured this way so as to trick people into thinking they must pre-order an HDTV...and that is assuming they don't have to, which I just said I don't believe is the case. I just talked to them again, and the guy said they aren't even getting conosles on launch.
You buy your TV on the 17th, they will place an order with Sony and shoudl revieve the consoles a week later (thats when I laughed and hung up) He wouldn't answer my question about whether you HAD to buy the HDTV. He siad he didn't know, and that they will probably have enough TV pruchases to fill up the reserves. |
