Something I've Noticed
We're getting a lot more traffic in these boards from the other forums (XBR and NNOW namely). This can only mean that the recent complaints about fanboyism on this board have worked, and people around here have become much more welcoming and willing to accept both the good and the bad news. Honestly, when I hear a person from another board complain of being neg repped for saying something that doesn't make Sony out to look good, it makes me sick. That's gljvd type shit, and we don't roll like that. Some of you have been a little too quick to press that neg rep button, and it needs to stop. However just by watching the traffic around here latley I've noticed many improvements as far as how welcoming we are to the others. This trend needs to not only continue, but keep improving as well.
Know that PS3 is a great system, but it isn't all happy faces and cheers all the time. It's had it's bad news, (LOTS of it) and will still have some bad news as well. If an Xbox or Ninty fan comes in and comments on it, don't jump on them, as there are just as many of us that comment on their bad news as well. We need to remain fair about things. We make up the largest community in E-mpire, and need to represent! I know many grew tired from an entire year of bad news, and took it out on whoever we could, but it isn't cool. This year, things are looking up, and the spirit around the forums are reflecting it. We all need to try to keep this spirit alive even when the news ain't so great. Remain friendly and welcoming, and our community will begin to grow rapidly. I can only try to imagine the number of lurking guests that have been steered away from signing up because they've seen the little fanboy pissing matches that took place on these boards in the past. We all need to strive to avoid such things, and act as mature adults who can carry on respectful, meaningful debates without getting emotional about it. There's been a dramatic improvement around here as of late. Congrats to all! Keep up the good work, and continue to improve!

Well to be fair, PS3 has been shitted on by the media very unfairly which I am sure pissed off many hardcore fans we have on this board and obviously they can't take it out on the person who wrote the article so when a known Ninty or an Xbox fan comes in and adds fuel to the fire by further negating the news; they got neg repped.
I remember reading lots of posts that made me think "why is he adding fuel to the already annoyed fans? he will get neg repped". I am sure many people on this board rode the timeline of PS3 much tougher than even Sony themselves heh. But now with the PS3 soon to become global, let's hope the only arguments we have around here are "I AM BETTER THAN YOU AT RESISTANCE!" ![]() |

Either way, making a negative comment about negative news is to be expected, and is in no way deserving of neg rep.

Well in these forums you just get caught up in the moment and when these known Xbox and/or Ninty fans only appear in a Negative PS3 thread, their intentions are soon put by the question mark.
I am not saying I agree with these actions and it may be 'pathetic' but I definitely understand it. Anyway, the FUD will die out when the PS3 is out there so I see nothing but good things for the future of this forum concerning this situation. Last edited by masteratt; 02-02-2007 at 10:11 PM. |

In most of those "negative Sony/PS3 press" threads i don't put any comment on there. I read the news, but just leave it as it is. The sooner i ignore it, the sooner it dies to the bottom of the forums.

This board has matured and that's a good thing, even though I think we will still have to deal with a lot of FUD for a year yet. After that, I think PS3 will have showed what it can do and the press will not be slamming it at every chance for every insignificant fault. Not that I believe the FUD will be no more after that, but I think we will be able to relax a lot more than now from March onwards.

I think we have a tendency to automatically claim everything to be "FUD", an article may have negative aspects to it although it isnt in essence FUD. I think its considerably better to view negative aspects as well as positive ones than sit around in a Sony wishing well.
I would definetely say that there has been a change in the board.

Well, we must learn to view positive speculation in the same light as negative speculation, which is instantly labelled as FUD since it cannot prove itself in any way. Positive speculation is like CRAP (comforting, re-assuring propaganda). It is just as baseless as FUD (fear, uncertainty and doubt)

![]() Anyway, there's like an unofficial FUD site blacklist that is usually spot on: Joystiq, Kotaku, The Inquirer, 1UP (many times), etc. I've also seen IGN, nextgen.biz and gamesindustry.biz posting news in a very FUDy way in the last few months. By the way: Quote:

The best thing about any one of the gaming forums here, whether it's related to PS3, XBox 360, or the Wii, is that I know all the latest news about any console before it becomes mainstream. On these forums we often hear rumors and debunk them by the time other media outlets are getting wind of the rumors to begin with. No other forum community that I know of has this kind of dedication, loyalty, enthusiam, and connection. It's important for us to not only set the example, but maintain it with continued reasoning, debates, and conversations in all matters with open minds. Once I realized what this community was about I became a fan for life. Kuddos to the entire E-mpire community.

I actually chuckle at all the fud against the PS3, just like the PS2, it made the whole situation kinda funny knowing where the PS2 ended up. I don't think the PS3 will sell 100++ mill, but it will be #1 I believe.

In essence of this fantastic thread. I hereby declare a FOREVER no-click announcement from my mouse, to the FUDtastic website that is the 1up.
After reading there Jaffe story yesterday. Yuck! Seems they'd hire anyone for journalists(in new-gen terms a.k.a news headliners/click mongers!) these days.[/offtopic] Ontopic, I'm with ya frosty! |

Personally, I think there needs to be more -repping, with only +rep and no -rep eventually everyone ends up with 11 green squares and stays there forever. But people for some reason frown upon it......

@venomv - I am one other who disagrees with that lol. I think the rep should represent for how long and how much you have contributed positively to the forum, and I have to say I don't see anyone positively contributing the forum often doing anything that I could declare as detrimental conduct.

Ok, I went a bit extreme with that comment, sometimes people say stupid crap and act very flamboyantly fanboyishly, but whatever, it's both much less often and to a much smaller extent than I've grown accustomed to elsewhere I must say.
At least our board is working on it and continuing to make it better ![]() P.S. I can and will name a few instances where I didn't like posts. 1 when people use gay as a negative connotation which has happened many times, and 2, jaxmkii posting a pic of ***t, I didn't fancy that at all. But either way, I think I will just not rep a person rather than neg. rep a person. It essentially comes down to the exact same ratios, just instead of .1 and .2 rep being big, it's 1 and 2 rep being big, it's not the same scale, but it has the same meaning, it's like choosing between fahrenheit and celsius, or cm or metres. Because generally, good posters will still be good posters and not so good ones will continue to be not so good, and everything will balance itself out anyways. I'd rather go with the one without the neg. rep though because the neg. rep almost feels too.. negative, I don't know how to say it properly. But... this doesn't matter, this is besides the point lol. I didn't mean to break up the thread, my bad...... Last edited by curryking1; 02-03-2007 at 05:36 AM. |
