Two Million For Gundam Musou?

Bandai Namco wants to sell a lot of copies of its latest PS3 game.

February 23, 2007 - PS3 software hasn't exactly been crowding the top ten sales charts over in Japan. Even Virtua Fighter 5 made a one week appearance at the top (just barely beating out Wii Sports) then fell to oblivion the next week.

The question is, when will a PS3 game hit the top 10 and remain there until it's sold a billion copies?

That answer could be ours next week when Gundam Musou sees Japanese release. Bandai Namco and Koei held an insiders-only (that's the industry kind of insider, not the IGN kind) event in Tokyo today to mark the completion of this unlikely combination of Gundam and Dynasty Warriors. At the event, Koei cofounder Keiko Erikawa had this to say about the upcoming title: "We've made a fantastic game. Gundam Musou is the most ordered PlayStation 3 game, but it's just one tenth of the sales we're thinking of. For us, Bandai's Gundam is one million , and the Musou series is one million. We'd like to sell a total of two million copies."

A Bandai Namco rep later lowered that forecast to one million worldwide sales.

Insult its graphics all you want, but the gameplay rules, according to Famitsu. And the Japanese love it. Hahaha.

There must be around two million Gundam fans in this world.

I think the reason that the PS3 isn't selling well and the Wii is, is because there isn't software (obviously) for the PS3 really, but moreso, I think it's that the Wii is new and interesting and the Japanese are HUGE whores for new things. Once the glam of the Wii wears off, and more games arrive for PS3, sales will start picking up. I guarontee!

I don't Wii sales will drop, instead PS3 sales will increase and likely rival the Wii in terms of Sales in Japan. This is probably going to be the same case in US and Europe. The Wii is going to have the quality that makes many including myself hooked on the DS.

After watching that trailer, I've got to say that it actually looks pretty enjoyable. I can definitely see where the Japanese would be drawn to it.

It makes total sense to me. Gundam SELLS in Japan. Remember that little news bit about Microsoft releasing a special edition of Blue Dragon in hopes that it would boost 360 sales? Yakuza 2 and a Gundam SEED game destroyed it on the sales charts. It's just one of those types of games that does well over there. Nobody really knows why considering the mechanics of most of them are trash, but it just does. I say slap the ZOE engine on a Gundam and you'll have the perfect Gundam game. When looking at Gundam Musou, I see a fast paced Gundam game with Mobile Suits NOT moving around at a snail's pace the way they did in past titles. That alone is enough for me to grab this baby if it lands in the states. Plus, it's got Master Gundam. You get to pilot MASTER GUNDAM. YOU are the Undefeated of the East. Instant Win, IMHO.

I am very interested on how far the Dynasty formula will go on. this is a no-brainer really and it will sell like mad. possibly the best selling PS3 game of its time till FF13 launches, but I am not talking about this one. I am talking about the European Medieval one Bladestorm.
