So here is what I think
First i'd like to say i'd take my hat off, but I don't have one on.
Second, are we in a day and age where internet communications has gotten so great that forums like these are getting quieter ? I look around to see alot of members with high postage stamp accounts, but I think thats just a refelction for the amount of time this place has been around now ?? I could possibly clock over 9000 posts sometime soon but its going to take a long time if these new kids don't throw some personality around to post back at. These day I float around because I broke my hip after a 10 meter fall, still recovering 6 months later and not working and mining in Australia has gone to shit. Third, I was going to post this in the vets forum, but shit....everyone can read this. Fourth, I bet no one on here has much of an idea of what i've been upto the last three years. Same goes for myself with all ya'll, all I know is Nathans still the funniest fukker here, Todd had some troubles...Thats about it. Blame that on myself but shit i've been busy and my account was Mc Fukked. I know alot about what makes a forum work, the main ingredient is actual throwing some personality around. Alot of you guys posting on here now don't remember back to the old days of when everyone was using win98 chatting on ply dark, then winamp and winxp came along and it was Nintensity, GCXL, Prankstar as well as other various forums. Those days though....forums thrived and I do believe it was because having personality and sharing it with the community was a great thing. Believe me I was an admin and let alot of stuff slide but was never afraid to input things myself. Canadian Homosapiens would write wack poems, Nathan was a punkass (still is), Hero had spiky hair and no control of his site (everyone else ran it), Skull Kid wondered why I was a badass admin. Jesus/Doesy and other Aussies would all post about whatevers happening, wether it was related to anyone else or not. Kevin/Sandman had always been around, funny fukker. In a short un roudabout way of explaining myself, I blame MYSPACE, FACEBOOK for fucking up good old fashioned forums. Can it be fixed? i'm not sure but this forum is about as good as it gets, we'r all lucky to have it. Somthing for the punks under the age of 19 to realise. Fith. I wonder just how many people will reply to this. I'm thinking not many, justa handfull of the mofo'z that got thinking when they read all this and remember the type of threads and posts back 3 to 10 years ago. Sixth, Peace ya'll and heres a pic of me and my GSXR 600 when I got out of hospital in May 09. Throw on some tunes, have a drink and post, bitches.

I thought doesy was hilarious. I remember back then too we had a board where everyone would post signatures and requests for them and everyone would change them like once a week.
I think you are right about myspace/facebook thing though. When we all joined we were kids, anywhere from 12-16 when we joined and now it's hard to get fresh blood on here. Think a big part of that though is that we don't have anything good on the main sites pointing to the forums and the main sites need a massive overhaul before anyone could be attracted to the forums. Oh I also remember an admin/mod named Mr. Biggshot or something what happened to him? I don't remember which forum it was exactly that he was on but i'm thinking maybe bluegoop. |

I remember the golden days because I was around for the end of Nintensity's and GCXL's life. Even NNow when it started was funny just because of all the flame wars that would happen when clashes between the GCXL and NFire members happened.
Everyone was a character, but we all pretty much grew out of the net persona's. And the newer generation of forumers seem to be lacking this. I guess social networking sites are to blame, but people grow up. It is a fact of life. We can bitch and moan how it isn't like the old days anymore but you either adapt or leave. I'd like to think I adapted because I am nowhere near as hostile as I used to be with my posts. I think that is mainly because I was a punk 13 year old kid when I started this shit.

I've lost a lot of internet-character lately. I feel like posting so neutrally. Or rather, I don't really feel like posting un-neutrally.

If everyone was more negative and wrote funny negative things, we could bann Negative and be jelous. Hisham I got the feeling you got jelous and changed your name. It wasn't really GCXL and Nfire clashing as much as just 3 or 4 people hacking and doing bad things, in turn causing alot of people to fight. That one is a long story only Brian and a few others know what really happened, but what did happen was cool becasue this site is here today. |

If you ever come to visit the crazy Americans, namely on the east coast, let me know. We could hit the trails en masse, up to 20 or so. That's a blast, spending all day out there. The Yamaha and I will try to take it easy on you.

He moved on. He even stopped posting at IGN, which most of the original bluegoop userbase was made of.

This forum is old. The people who helped create this forum is old. And personally I find Nintendo boring now unless it has to with the pre Wii era (It seems like video games are still going on the same story line that they were ten years ago) Which goes back to the majority of the older members being old and growing out of video games. Instead of sitting around all day bullshitting on a Nintendo forum, they have other friends and interests and jobs. We aren't in middle school or high school any more with nothing else to occupy our time. We actually have to do shit now in order to get by in the world.

But, to answer the question at hand, I think, well I know, that I don't post myself anymore because the place is dead. When I think about it, I used to come on and the whole first page of every section had new replies, that's a lot of shit to reply to. But now? There might be like 20 topics with new replies on the whole site. And I'm not in high school anymore, I'm always working/eating/sleeping. And to make matters worse, my post count was halved during my hiatus from here, what the crap!? haha On a side note, there's a vet forum? |

There is an inherent problem with "oversocialization", and unfortunately, our generation is by and large experiencing exactly that. It is turning us into outgoing introverts, if you pardon my contradiction; people are spending so much time online and with their faces buried into their cell phones/earbuds crammed into their ear canals that they are completely neglecting the world around them. Some have argued it is becoming an addiction, but I think people like to control the way the world sees them, and facebook-type websites give them the opportunity to do just that.
Instead of actually using the profile to something with tenor and quintessential verve, people are covering it with applications, songs, carefully editing their walls, which friends the public sees on their page, etc (I almost never saw anything besides either a)required reading, b) some teenage volume such as Harry Potter, or c) some NY Times bestseller on the "favorite books" section when I was on facebook); again, it is a form of control, and instead of being yourself, you project who you want to be to others, which is dishonest to them and more fundamentally, you. It seems the human race is becoming trapped and engulfed by technology, instead of set free by it. I cannot remember the number of times I overhead someone saying on campus something along the lines of "I could not live without my cell phone". I don't think most of them believe that, but even the hyperbole being suggested is somewhat revolting when one stops to think about it. So yes, you can blame facebook, among many other factors, on the decline of the forum. A response here required thought and incite, and unfortunately, fewer people are applying either to their various forms of societal output. We are slowly creeping towards Huxley's vision, and the scariest part about that is, most people either don't see it or are merely succumbing to apathy. |
