Yes, I'll be trying it out, that is for sure. I'm still interested (excited) to know what they meant by "new window manager". I am seriously hoping they meant something to replace X. That would make me so happy. I doubt it, but I can always dream.
They also released their Go programming language recently too. Said to be as performant as C but with greater runtime checking/identification and automatic garbage collection ala C#/Java. Apparently it also compiles very very fast. It looks interesting but I haven't tried it yet, apparently instead of class methodology it uses something else.

Is their OS still planned to be a very basic free open-source effort of an OS, or are they really serious about a competitive market share OS?
Also, I couldn't but notice ALL of Google products come out almost bare-bones then build up over time. If this ends up like that, I may not give it a serious go till years from now. |

It's an open source netbook OS at first but they are building it up to a general OS that can be used on anything. I imagine they would be pretty serious about getting market share.
They already have manufacturers lined up, and have done since July. I'm expecting it to be actually pretty cool. I mean, at first I thought chrome was fast but kinda strange. But now I feel it's the best darn browser on the planet, and their design is extremely logical and well thought out. if Chrome OS is anything half as nice to use I'll be impressed. |

I'm actually loving Google Chrome as a browser now... I can't switch back to Firefox. I even tried this morning and I got pissed off and went back to Chrome lol!
I miss some of the plugins, like adblock and downloadhelper and whatever, but I don't really mind at all. All Chrome has to do is get a default zoom feature (that isn't a pain to install manually) and it will be perfect for my needs. Chrome is also a little funky with some sites and flash things in some very obscure ways, but the browser is new and probably still not used as much, so I guess that contributes. Plus Chrome has GREAT bookmark synchronization. This was really important to me because I frequently use two different computers lol. I like that I don't have to keep track of where I bookmarked what. I know you can do this in FF but it's way more tedious with the plugins than with Chrome's built in functionality. You have to manually synchronize each time... and there's potential you could just erase all your new bookmarks by accident lol... and the third party plugin is really weird... it's really stupid on Firefox. That stuff combined with how fast Chrome is... pure win.

I dunno, Google it, adblock is like the first result.
You will need version 1.1.9.10 for it to work properly in the latest builds of chrome though. |
