he wrote most, if not all, of his speeches during the campaign, including his inaugural address.
Jon Favreau writes them. Obama writes a basic outline draft, Favreau rewrites it, shapes it the way he thinks is best. Oabama will make edits or approve and then Favreau will finalize it for the teleprompter.
From what I've read, he writes the entire speech and then it is edited by Favreau, Axelrod, and Obama.
This seems to suggest he is far more hands-on than you (or the Guardian) really give him credit for.

All his speeches (as are all presidential speeches) are written by his speech writers. But when you get him in a Q&A type setting, he's Uh and Um and Porky pig as any of us.
I'll admit he's night and day better than Bush even with a script but without one he's not nearly as eloquent.
Haha, that first video. "Breathalyzer... inhalator!" He's like barely saying anything at all. The second video was just constant stuttering. The third one is more funny in the people's comments trying to defend it.
I always get a kick out of silly videos like that. Bush's were way funnier though.
And alcohol poisoning IS dangerous. If you drink around people you don't know. Alcohol poisoning is done when a person hates another person to the point of harming him.
the funny part with bush was you did not have to scower the internet to find them from speeches of the past. all you had to do was wait till the next time he opened his mouth and the train wreck insued.

Certainly. Bush could humm the lyrics to a song and still get it wrong. But Obama is not the vocabulary artisan as perceived without his teleprompter to read from.
But I don't judge a president based on his oratory qualities but rather the message itself and the follow through. If you speak it, make it happen. Unfulfilled promises that render hopes to sorrow hurt more than lies with no hope attached at all.
He fought off a ring of opium peddling bears from Canada and cured AIDS by genetically modifying H1N1 to only manifest the ability of immunity. He did his DNA sequencing from a modified Mr. Coffee and a sharper image ionic-air.

I'm sure Obama's speeches aren't thought up by him, but lets have some context - when was the last time a president (or any democratically elected leader, for that matter) wrote his own speech? In this day and age It makes sense to have someone else go through it with you. But I agree that Obama is given more credit than other leaders for his speech writing. What Obama has the ability to do is read it as if it's his own, and whether due to his staff or his own judgement, is able to recite a copy that is a believeable portrayal of who he is. (not saying that it IS who he is, just that it's believable).
He called Kanye a jackass. That made me very happy
That's about it...
lol j/k
Most of the things have already been listed, but I simply like his speeches focus of justice--even if many of them won't ever come.
And shame on you pot-heads Always looking for a reason to get high, and get high even more...lol
Silly monkeys..

He stopped the great robot war of 3013 before it happened by crashing into a malfunctioning, digital parking meter. This stemmed the tide of the spreading of a malfunctioning AI that had an intrinsic need to be compensated by humans. He also prevented the perogie famine in the middle of the Czech republic by supplementing hunger with a strong, steady stream of foreign hope and well wishing.

You get a utility from having groups. Having certain bare minimums, and special acts which increase hope, increases utility for many individuals. I win "teh Cookies"! Take that definitive speak!
