New Guitar for me!

Well with my birthday looming I decided to get a new new guitar. Well this ones a beauty I found on E-bay for about $700.

Yes, the flying v. There is no other guitar that is as metal as this one. This is a picture of the actual one I am getting. I can't wait to play it.

Not for thrash metal. There were three guitars I was considereing, a 70's Strat, a Gibson SG, and this one, but I decided on this one, as I already have a Ibanez with a strat body that has both single and double coil sounds. Plus there's the virtually unrestricted upper fret access. I almost considered an explorer, but the V just seemed so much cooler, and better for leads. I was never a fan of Les Pauls. Good heavy sound, but too much money.

Meh, it's a faded V. I can't stand those.

It's not a faded V, faded V's only come in cherry and with crescent moon inlays. It only looks faded because of the reflections of the clouds. This is a '67 reissue, there's no way in hell I'd pay that much for a faded V. And no, on my Ibanez I have 2 humbuckers with a 5 way switch. The 2nd position only use one of the pickups on one of my neck humbucker and the 4th position uses one from each.

Thats a nice guitar, flying v's are awesome. I want to get a flying V one day, but I can only play a 7 string anymore, and those are a rarity.

Les Pauls are overrated IMO, not a fan of the neck or the body. They sound good, but I'd rather just throw in some EMG pickups in an Ibanez RG; 7 string of course, because 6 strings are just not metal enough.

If you need an extra string to sound metal then you should not be playing metal sir.

I agree with big chops. And tuning 3 and a half steps down to sound 'heavy' is for pansies. And Tony Iommi, but he doesn't count.

And there is more than one type of neck for Les Pauls...50's, 60's, plus the type of material. There are countless possibilities.

Flying V's are as uncomfortable as you can get. I've got a Metal Zone Boss pedal. That thing can make a Gibson sound like fucking death.

Naw, my friend had 2 v's, an Epiphone (which played alright), and a Jackson (which played beautifully). Once you get used to the shape nothing is quite as nice as having unrestricted upper fret access. The guitar is supposed to come in tomorrow, so I'll tell you guys how it plays and sounds.

Oh shit sorry I forgot. It's fuckin sweet, although I suspect the pickups have been replaced, it plays nice, not quite as sweet as my Ibanez, but it sounds absolutely savage. I get a huge heavy sound out of my neck pickup and a nice searing lead sound out of the bridge pickup. Here's a picture of me holding my guitar at my lesson.
