I'd like + rep for something that HtPB didn't find!
![]() I got it off N boards. Now before you get all sounding dumb let me say something. If you're going to bash it because it looks dumb then you're casual and should never post because you're a cliche existence yourself. The purpose is to look past that like any smart person would do. Since this is a mock.... Oh yeah guys this is a mock! Last edited by Vishus; 08-09-2005 at 04:00 AM. |

It seems workable, but one problem I have is how heavy would the controller be with all that plastic?

I think its very clever. It would confuse a lot of people though.

It is brilliant! Too bad it would turn off casual gamers.

Heretic has been gone for 2 weeks...noob...also, I don't like that thing, having to turn it during gameplay, and all the buttons, it'd limit gameplay, not expand it. No dual analog for that baby, and the aqward posisiton of the l, r, and z buttons. It'd be good if you held it at it's side, then you'd have the big ass controller in front of you, like someone glued 2 controllers together. No D-pad, and I'd be damned if that was innovation.

The L, R, and Z are at the most convenient positions ever. Switching between buttons with your pointer finger is dope. Using your pointer and middle finger for four buttons is actually smart. The other way is just so Sony. Also the lack of a d-pad is nothing. Sony kept the d-pad because well they really are n00bs. They're trying to go for the casuals? I haven't really played a game that used a d-pad because the last really good one was one the DC. Sony's is a step back from Nintendo's, MS is using third party quality, and Nintendo well they just need to work on position. There are ways to get past the d-pad. The innovation was trying not to fit everything into two handles. |

^ See that Red mark under you're post count? That means you never got any....
The controller idea is brilliant but it has quite a bit of problems, and I actually think the L and R/Z1 and Z2 thing would work. The weight wouldn't just be heavy but when you hold it on whatever side, the side sticking out would overweigh the part you're holding. The second is, as already mentioned, NO D-PAD!!!111!! Oh noes-eth! How is teh Revolution gonna play teh classic NES games to the full effect without the D-pad? Also the D-pad is actually used quite a bit in GC games (Metroid Primes, Eternal Darkness, P.N. 03) |

I think it's even stupider than the N64 controller. A bunch of extra shit, and you know devs would try finding ways to make the opposite sides' buttons be useable in-game.

Ok, here's everything that would need to happen for that controller to work:
First, each game would have to tell you exactly which position to hold it in. And any time that you would be required to change positions, like between levels or something, it would have to stop, tell you which way to hold it, and then wait for you to switch before continuing. The game could use the gyroscopes to be able to tell if you've turned it yet or not. No developeer could expect you to turn the controller around during gameplay. If they did, that game would suck. Second, they couldn't label the triggers "L" and "R," because when you turn the controller certain ways, it would be reversed (R on the left, L on the right). Instead, the buttons would be unlabelled, but the one on the left would always be L, and the one on the right would always be R. Since the game knows which way you're holding the controller (assuming the paragraph above is true), then it would know which trigger is which when you press it. |

^ What? Stupider than the N64 controller? The 64 controller was one of the best controllers designed. It was teh pwnzorz.

No, it sucked. Horribly.
C'mon... 3 handles? What kind of dumbass thought humans have 3 hands. And don't tell me, "It was set so you could play different styles in different games." I know games that required you to use buttons on all three of the handles just because they weren't innovative enough to think of a better control scheme. |

The games that I have played that did require the L button on the N64 where used when I was just standing still and nothing could attack. Mischief makers was the only game I played that required the use of a home position. Other than that it was a semi-convenience over the Playstation controller (before dual-shock) because it provided an extra button. If you had to switch between home and left position then well I look at all the "good games" on the N64 and see that very rarely such a thing happened. Also unlike Sony Nintendo knew the future was joysticks because of 3d games. The d-pad just starts to suck and here they are at the stages of getting the industry to move away from it. The GCN controller almost never had a d-pad. The N64 controller still beats GCN's OoT control and it was awesome for FPS. Dual joysticks just isn't the way to go.
I admit right now that the controller idea wouldn't work for every genre control idea that exists right now but it is one alternative to avoiding up clogging on two handles and it makes an interesting "Bop It" kind of game. |

imagine holding the controller with one set of handles facing you. The one on the left is L and the one on the right is R. If you turn it 90 degrees to the left, now the handle that WAS on your right is on your left. |

Dual Analog would suffer as well. Lets say you have to use both analogs, and fire using the the l and r. Changing weapons can be made up with the Z. Now you have to jump, croach, reload, and throw genades, dual wield or not. you can choose one of the modes without a analog, but now your stuck. Because you can only move forward and strife. But of course there's the metriod form of playing, which is unpopular, and even still impossibe for many of the games out there. Auto Aim with L, standstill aim with R, analog to move, switch weapons Z, A to shot, Croach with X, reload with Y, throw grenades with B. Of course that balancing act is still in play. After your hand has stopped hurting from all the things you have to do on the controller, you'll likely pick up a 360. Because it limits gameplay, not adds, it adds nothing. Of course these things can be fixed with a simple turn, but try turning your gc controller, I just did, it's not really with it. Not at all, When I turned it, I hit all sorts of buttons, and analog sticks. Like someone said up there, this can be fixed if the developers decided to pause the gameplay for you to turn it, but then gameplay would simply turn into alots and lots of minigames. That does sound like what they were saying about the ds, except in this case there is really nothing added but more analogs, and buttons and your limited to how many your able to get at during gameplay. Taking your fingers off of a button and touching a touch screen is one thing, but rotating the entire system/controller is another. Behold the de-evolution of gaming. |
