Nintendo patents Voice recognition!

Magazine MCF says that president Satoru Iwata will be revealing information on Price and possibly the exact release date for Revolution at the Game Developers conference coming up. But that's not all rumor has it that 2 new patents have been filed in America by Nintendo.

1.Voice to text conversion (could be very usefully in an MMORPG)
2.A security program (Voice lock to prevent theft) (rumored)

This new patent affirms that Nintendo plans on continuing its path of Mic integration within video games. I expect to see military games where you actually command your squad mates with your voice (Already games available on X-Box) this shows Nintendo could be on the path to unveil another big secret. Mic integration into many games as well as a security program. Already my mind is going wild over what could be, a voice recognizer that contacts local authorities if stolen. If the machine log's online from a new location and with an unknown voice trying to activate it, the console could alert the authorities ETC... (Laptop software already in existence) the possibilities are endless.

Many other applications can be found quickly, So lets wait and see what Nintendo has to offer!

Read the announcement at the top of the page.

that's pretty cool, though. Voice to text would be awesome.

I don't think such a security feature would be necessary. Actually, I think it'd be ridiculous. I doubt Revolution will be a "hot" item, as in something that people steal often. But, hey who knows? Maybe this adds some credence to the possibility of a portable console? I don't know.

does it say these patents are actually for rev? the security feature sounds like it would be more at home on a DS, as its a handheld it's much more likely to get stolen and won't always be sitting in the living room of your locked house. the talk-to-text feature could also be applied to DS for its pictochat service. You might want to rethink the thread title...

Also...you should have your thread title edited to say Nintendo Files voice Recognition Patent or somthing because it doesn't say its for the REV

nooo.....noboyd will se it here..hahhha

Just think though...you could talk to the revolution, it will make your voice into text and this could be done so you dont have types any info fields and perhaps....say you want to search for a nintendo game in teh VC.... just say it and it will search!...

its also good for games taht require alot of text based info and for people who cant hear...

the proximity is also a interesting idea.... people could be having conversations in an mmorpg and only the people around them could hear....

I was actually hoping for something like this in Animal Crossing, before we knew that voice chat was out.

In fact, I mentioned it in a previous editorial:

If it was well made, your friend could hear which direction you’re calling from, and find you like that.

Your a freakin' genius. That idea rules. Any kind of chatting ability would just add on to the already great games Nintendo would produce. Let's face it, Prime 3 with online voice chat could completly own at E3, and Mario Revolution with some kind of voice controlling system would be a plus no matter how you look at it.
