Nintendo turns up heat on PS3!
Japanese heavy hitter gaming magazine Famitsu ran a survey of its Readers,Retailers and game publishers/developers to find out which systems had the most support Next-Generation. Famitsu has long been viewed as the official gaming magazine for Japan. Famitsu dominates the gaming magazine industry in Japan and remains unchallenged by any capable competitors. Famitsu has many readers and links to the industry so this survey should shed light on the results the Next-Gen systems will enjoy in Japan. Lets take a look at the ranks 1.PS3 2.Nintendo Revolution 3.X-360 But what might surprise many is how close Nintendo came to beating Sony. publishers preferred PS3 by 53.7% while only 41.4% picking Revolution. This is probably due to strong developer relations with Sony. However as we are seeing currently a massive sway from Sony to Nintendo and Microsoft is occurring as evident by (Capcom/Konami/Namco/Tecmo/Sega/Square...) These changes are because of hefty development costs on the next-generation platform. The X-360 made an appearance with 2.4% support. Retailers favored PS3 by 56.9% and Revolution by 43.9% leaving Nintendo close once again just behind about 10% Nintendo seems to be gaining support from Japanese Retailers. Reasons for the support could be Nintendo's track record of supporting Retailers with exclusive products and having less stock shortages. Sony is still the favorite most likely due to strong PS2 sales. X-360 showed its face with 1.7% of retailers showing their support. Gamers however seem to be equally divided, with PS3 winning by a slim 1% at 46.3% for PS3 and 45.8% for Revolution.Gamers seemed to feel sorry for Microsoft giving them 7.9%. Chances are RE5 and DOA4 had a lot to do with Microsoft's small recovery. The Japanese market is often Nintendo's target market giving them the upper hand in it. America tends to be Sony's market. So lets see how Rev and PS3 due in JP later this year. According to the survey Nintendo took home a victory with DS being the console of choice for year 2006. With developers supporting it 49.9% and retailers supporting it 38.3%. Source - Famitsu magazine English source - Gamasutra.com |
