Best, most natural, close to real animations ever. I hope the sequel of Uncharted will have animations like this, though Uncharted already has very nice animations
![]() Back to the topic, why Sony cancelled it ? We know, more resources go to Heavy Rain and KillZone2, but this one was shaping up so good, from what I know. Maybe I'm missing something ? Thoughts ? |

If they add more randomness to this (a la Uncharted), the animations would be so ace it's wrong... the transitions between animations are not all that spectacular though. Some blend fine where they seems less freedom for how you enter from one to another, but some blend just respectably.
If Uncharted had this smoothness... oh my... All that equates to is 'Thank the lord for SCEWWS and sharing tools.' Quote:
On the other hand of course I would love to have this being worked on right now, but does cancellation really mean it can't be continued later? Or it's resources and work distributed to other domains of SCEWWS? 'Why?' It's such an arbitrary question, but that's just what's happening for better or worse of expanding the Playstation 3 base. I think Yoshida has a good idea in mind - to circulate the whole image of the Playstation 3 around a mood and palette of Little Big Planet and things like Life with Playstation (which they ought to display in stores or something btw as LwP is ***king sick). I think there's good reason why Little Big Planet has received beyond even the limits of promotion from what Sony can do for it at least. This response is not to 'disagree' with you, I'm just thinking what the nature of Sony's plan is for the next 8 months or so. I'm sure when SCEE's resources are less filled up with projects they can shift focus back to things like this. It's just what they ended up concluding they should opt for.

Looking very nice, but I'm wondering how come a developer uploaded that footage. I guess he's not breaking an NDA, because otherwise he sure as hell will get in trouble. Trying to get some attention, maybe?
In any case, hopefully the tech they developed will have some use on other first party games.

It looked really good. The animation, graphics. and the gameplay which seemed to be very dynamic. a mix between Uncharted and StrongleHold.

I just saw it, and holy fuck! Sony better not be throwing away that technology. It better be put to use other Sony projects.

that looks really good! nice and fluid. that has to be in Uncharted 2 or future games. it's just too good to forget about.
as for why, Sony CE CEO said that both this and the Getaway were becoming way too expensive and they didn't do anything substantial for 3 years- or more. this video looks great, but they need more than that to make a whole product. it is hard, but sometimes you have to draw the line somewhere. personally, of course I ant this. I am a fan of cutting edge and hardcore all the way.

they did not swap one project for another, people! they guy doesn't even know why, he guessed. Yoshida directly gave the reason; they were getting way too expensive without significant results. you may argue if the group is going for a more simple game design direction, but, for God's sake, don't say that 2 huge projects were swapped for one camera game. that's just too stupid.
by the way, speaking of SCEE, are there any big projects coming from them (and Japan)? I can only think of SCEA working on all the heavy stuff. |

We already know Sony's current fiscal year strategy is to save as much money as possible and you said yourself that Yoshida shut them down out of monetary issues. If they were shut down for the money saving, I highly doubt that money would go right back into development because the money would no longer be saved. If it's for diversification into a more casual group...good luck to them but at the literal expense of their bread and butter market seems fucktarded to me. |

I thought Yoshida reasoning for closing down the Eight Days and The Getaway was his belief that single player experiences are not what its about anymore. He wants more games where you can play with a buddy.

nope, it was because they were too expensive. there was an interview with him where he directly said so.
as for SCEE, they haven't been releasing anything but simple PSN games, iirc. and yes, Sony's gaming devision was loosing money- a lot of money. so i am not expecting anything big from them soon. and they switched to simpler, cheaper games and not Eyepet specifically. that is the misconception I see here. |

Naughty Dog has a better animation and cover system that is MORE RESPONSIVE and adaptable to platforming which this is not. Why the FUCK are people suggesting Naughty Dog to copy this? They had to sacrifice some animation smoothness in order to have BETTER CONTROLS, Uncharted is out, it's well-tuned, controls well, has great AI, this is just a fucking animations video with NO ENEMY AI, you don't know how well the aiming controls are, and you don't know how well this controls except when in low cover the movement is actually very slow which isn't exactly good for gameplay.

Perhaps Eyepet needed more resources and the team was basically spreading itself way too thin with Eyepet, Getaway AND Eight Days. Yoshida approved a TON of mature projects, from God of War to Resistance to Uncharted to SOCOM to Syphon Filter. To suggest somehow that they're going casual and Eight Days is somehow the victim of this change in direction is absurd. Eight Days is the victim of London Studios taking way too fucking long to pump a polished game out, LONDON STUDIOS decided to make Eyepet and TWO highly expensive action games that ended up getting nowhere after years of development, why would anyone choose to continue to fund two highly expensive action games when they probably needed every resource they have just to get Eyepet out? And who's to say they're not working on some other mature title that is actually pulling resources away from Eight Days and is looking more promising? |

I'd guess the harvester method cutting 10% all over the line had something to do with the cancellation too.
I really like that tech demo, it really gives weight to the character and combined with slow moving bullet spraying enemies we'd have a cool easy to pick up(due to the pace) game where cover is of importance. Thanks for sharing it.
