Supernatural Renewed for Season 6
The good news is in the headline!
The bad news is........Showrunner/series creator Kripke steps down.
Supernatural will continue beyond the apocalypse. Putting to rest a lot of speculation, The CW has announced the show is officially renewed for a Season 6. Yes, this means the series will continue past the five year story arc planned by series creator Eric Kripke, but for the past year, Kripke has said he has ideas on where the show could go in a sixth year – while he also has promised that his original storyline will still wrap up this season as planned.
Turns out there is a "but" to Supernatural getting a sixth season – Eric Kripke is stepping down as showrunner. EW.com's Michael Ausiello reports the news, though he stresses it's not a doomsday scenario.
First off, Kripke's successor, Sera Gamble, is already an executive producer on Supernatural, having written for the series since Season 1. Second, Ausiello says that Kripke will "remain actively involved in the show," and still continue to be a hands-on executive producer, along with his current co-showrunner, Robert Singer.
Ausiello also notes Kripke is said to be finalizing a new deal with Warner Bros, who produce Supernatural, to develop a new series.

Awesome. I do hope it doesn't take a dip in quality though.

I honestly wasn't happy about it, haha. I'm afraid they're going to bleed it out for another few years like Smallville. I can't imagine them coming up with a bigger story arc than what they're doing now. I liked the idea of the show telling the story it wanted to and then ending on its own terms.

For me its a show that can go to 10 seasons. The 5 season story Arc only appeared every 4th episode which means it barely consisted of an entire season. The single episodes were brilliantly made from the second one in season one that actually scared the crap out of me ( Which has never happened any series ever for me ) with the Wendigo to the spoof's like A Very Supernatural Christmas" which were funny as hell.
Even the two graphic novels Origins and Rising son are brilliant detailing Sam and Deans childhood on the run with their father. Hell if any developer had the balls and the skill this could become one hell of a co-op game franchise along the lines of Condemned and Resi 5.

For me, the main arc of each season is the most interesting story and driving force behind that season. The "monster of the week" episodes are usually good, but there have been some real duds. I personally would be disappointed if that was all the show became in later years.
I'd rather the show go to around 14 episodes a season. It would probably be easier on everyone involved and the single episodes would be much stronger. I also wouldn't mind waiting longer between seasons if it meant there weren't any breaks during the season. The show only aired 3 or 4 episodes after the Christmas break and it's already on hold again.

My boss brought up an awesome theory that Season 6 could very well be sort of like "flashback" episodes. Pretty much, it could show missions that didn't make it in the first five seasons and even early childhood snippets, such as Dean's first hunt or Sam's defiance.
If it were like that, I would be stoked. More than likely, however, it'll be something else, kind of dragging the story through the dirt.
I hate to say this, though, but the fact that they are extending it to Season 6 also makes it almost impossible that the world is going to end (in accordance to the show); sorry!

yeah I kinda wish they waited to announce this until after the season. when you thought this would be the last season you believed anything could happen. shit, they might just kill everyone on the planet. it takes away some of the excitement about the finale when you know the lead actors are coming back next year.
sorry if I'm fucking up the excitement over the news. it could turn out to be awesome.
